What gets you excited about a new collection?

It’s hard to get me REALLY excited, but I love good, interesting visuals that really show off the products in a creative way. That’ll definitely make me look more closely at the actual products in the launch.

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

At this point it would take something truly remarkable to make me excited. Immaculate pagacing, shades, formula, something that LOOKS special. Something that feels special. I feel like high end cosmetics used to be more innovative 20 years ago and now everyone’s just mailing it in.

Accurate real life, NOT digital swatches on various skin depths, for starters! Because, I need to know how certain, specific types of product releases translate IRL. Especially foundations, concealers, blushes, highlighters and lip products. Eyeshadow is more subjective, I feel. Especially when someone has a slightly more unusual eye color for their skin and hair color! But even then, I NEED to see accurate swatches, not computer generated or stencils.

Like you Christine and Mariella above, it’s extremely rare that an entire collection appeals to me – it’s more like if some of the lipsticks or eyeshadows contain the shades that I love and would wear. Quite often it’s your autumn collections that appeal the most.

Ahhh…autumn!!!! Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness (I love that line) – my favourite time of year too and I find it hard to resist autumn-type eyeshadow palettes like Chanel’s Tisse d’automne, CT’s The Rebel (have you heard of that one?) and even the legendary Empreinte du desert, which was a summer release but has a totally autumn feel!

I’ve bought quite a lot from collections in the past. MAC Aquatic I think was one, and something about earth the same year, also MAC.
These days I don’t think the collections appeal as much to me, I don’t know if they are less fun and imaginative, or if it’s me, having so much makeup.
I do get excited when I see beautiful lipsticks in a good photo, I do love lipsticks. Other than that I like to see a collection used on a lot of different skin colours and skin tones, not just arm swatches but actually used as they are supposed to be used.

I would get super excited if you did another collab with Sydney Grace! Something completely different – maybe light and bright. I would buy it the minute it was available like I did your trio. So beautiful! Love you Christine!

Like you, very little lately because I know I won’t likely purchase anything and because most brands seem lost and uninspired, so they don’t produce anything inspiring. That said, like you mentioned later about Daness Myricks, what does catch my eye are new textures-formulations and unique color schemes (very hard to do) that are cohesive.
