Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. Comments alerting us to typos or small errors in the post are appreciated (!) but will typically be removed after errors are fixed (unless a response is needed).

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

If I spent more than drug store prices I look for major lip conditioning, a bit of color and lasting moisture on my lips. It’s hard for mainstream brands to beat drug store lip balm prices. Luxury brands often have drug store quality lip balms in fancy packaging. Not falling for that. Chantecalle and Pat McGraft makes great high end lip balms.

No sticky balms! MAC Lipglass fails me on that score, every time. After that, I notice smell and taste — I’m hypersensitive to smell in particular. One of my spring lipgloss buys finally met the trash can, after I established that the smell/taste was just so bad I couldn’t even justify offering it to my (much less picky) teen.

Taste and thickness of the formula. I can handle a bad smell… but if I can taste it and it tastes bad I just can’t handle that. I find a lot of people love sweeter tasting balms, but I have trouble with many because they use stevia and for some reason that is just too much and makes me gag. I can’t eat/drink anything with stevia either — tastes way too artificial. As for consistency I don’t want it to be so thick that I feel it and it doesn’t absorb or do anything for them. Laneige lip mask I love because even though it is initially thick I feel like it conditions my lips and feels thick and smooth/slick vs thick and waxy. Too thin and can’t feel it on my lips then what is the point!
