The scent and how smooth and moisturizing it feels.
Texture and consistency (I don’t like tacky feeling or very thick balms), how soothing it is (I want instant hydration).
Texture must be smooth. And I definitely need to sense that the lip balm is imparting real moisture and hydration to my lips!
I prefer either zero scent or something milder like Laneige Lip Mask in Gummi Bears or Strawberry. But, I hate perfumey type scents!
Scent/flavor and consistency. I hate overly waxy balms such as Chapstick.
If I spent more than drug store prices I look for major lip conditioning, a bit of color and lasting moisture on my lips. It’s hard for mainstream brands to beat drug store lip balm prices. Luxury brands often have drug store quality lip balms in fancy packaging. Not falling for that. Chantecalle and Pat McGraft makes great high end lip balms.
I’m not a lip balm wearer – I just prefer a genuinely good, creamy lipstick. But if I did – I would want it to glide on smoothly, not feel tacky or icky. No scent would be preferable.
No sticky balms! MAC Lipglass fails me on that score, every time. After that, I notice smell and taste — I’m hypersensitive to smell in particular. One of my spring lipgloss buys finally met the trash can, after I established that the smell/taste was just so bad I couldn’t even justify offering it to my (much less picky) teen.
I’m exactly the opposite, I love MAC Lipglass and want all glosses to feel like that.
Fun, isn’t it how different we are, but also how much alike in our love of make up and the comfort of “hanging out” here at Temptalia.
Taste and thickness of the formula. I can handle a bad smell… but if I can taste it and it tastes bad I just can’t handle that. I find a lot of people love sweeter tasting balms, but I have trouble with many because they use stevia and for some reason that is just too much and makes me gag. I can’t eat/drink anything with stevia either — tastes way too artificial. As for consistency I don’t want it to be so thick that I feel it and it doesn’t absorb or do anything for them. Laneige lip mask I love because even though it is initially thick I feel like it conditions my lips and feels thick and smooth/slick vs thick and waxy. Too thin and can’t feel it on my lips then what is the point!
