I love Lancome’s Hypnose 5-Color Eyeshadow Palettes. I have Taupe Craze and Drama Denim. The colors are bold, the texture is buttery and so blendable, I can apply and blend just with my finger and the colors last all day, or night. They have several different color palettes. I truly want all of them lol.
I’m glad to read this about Taupe Craze. I know it’s another one that has received less than glowing reviews but one of the makeup sales women at Shoppers Drug Mart had a gorgeous eye look a few weeks ago and I asked her what it was and it was Taupe Craze. The look she achieved and your praise are making me think I really should get it!
Lancôme has a nostalgic place in my heart. I snagged Taupe Craze and a couple of others and I love them for a coordinated eye look that I don’t have to think about.
Thank you so much for mentioning this. I feel I absolutely have to get this palette as it seems to be right up my alley.
They are both discontinued now but even in their heyday, they weren’t especially popular. Both the UD Naked Smoky and ABH “Mario” palettes are ones I love and I know the latter especially didn’t have a very high “repurchase” rating on MakeupAlley – 40%. I don’t understand it – it’s not “perfect” (for me, it’s missing an inner corner/highlight shade) but it’s so good, as is Naked Smoky (or is it “Smokey”?).
I really like Naked Smoky. I find it works for day and night and everything in between whatever that can be. Now I think I have to use it tomorrow.
Any/all of the Viseart petit pros. I like the mix of mattes and shimmers and actually prefer the small pan sizes, as I never hit pan on anything. They are great for travel, too.
Dior Backstage palettes. They had a little hype for a bit but not so much anymore. I have the cool neutrals. It’s such a staple for me. Nice pigmentation. Pretty shimmers. Good for traveling. Also similar in vein is the Naked Basics 3. Yes both monochromatic but the shadows are soft, smooth and very blendable. Love them so much!
In our current “fast food” mentality on the part of the beauty industry, so many palettes get buzz for maybe a week, but then; crickets! It has become overwhelming how many palettes are released, reviewed by various people, and almost never brought up again. There is a small handful of vloggers who will do a “favorites and fails” end of month or two summary, but most don’t revisit palettes they reviewed.
For me, it would have to be UD Naked 2 (full-size), ABH Subculture (I bought one of the repressed palettes, and it’s still a great autumn palette for me!) and also, no one talks about Modern Renaissance either anymore, and ALL the Viseart Theory 6-pan palettes just vanished and didn’t seem to get much fanfare while they existed except for here!
Subculture, that’s the green leaning one, that got such a lot of you tubers swirling away at one of the shades? If so I have it and used it quite a bit, but haven’t revisited it in a long time, the same with Modern Renaissance, a palette I was on a waiting list for.
I think thanks to this question I’ll have this weeks eyeshadow palettes chosen. It’ll be fun to revisit old favourites.
I love UD Naked 1 – 3 and Smokey.
Yes indeed, Helene! It has such perfect rustic and woodsy tones, from the greens to mustards and even some almost dusky cranberry and plum shades, too! It pairs up with some of my more sparkly eyeshadows in corresponding shades very nicely as well.
I enjoy my Kaja stack. It is really nice and i use it pretty frequently. I think dose of colors eye shadows are pretty under rated. – typically my goal is to hit pan on my eye shadow palettes before i let them go or i try to wait until the hype is over on a palette and see how it fits into what i already have before i purchase a new one.
If Natasha Denona hadn’t done the ridiculous shade naming of the Glam palette (which ruined it for many), I think it would’ve been better received overall. It is an all round useful palette now that UD’s Naked 2 has been d/c and it could have been what Naked 2 should have been – a genuinely more neutral cool toned palette with a couple of slightly warmer shades.
I agree with you Christine, the Kaja eyeshadow truos are underrated. I also love the Viseart petit palettes and the quads . All are fabulous and don’t take up a bunch of space
Natasha Denona Triochrome was probably the last one I bought that fits the bill. True, two of the multi-chromes aren’t the best, but they’re fine when foiled. And Scarab IS gorgeous.
The rest of the palette, however, is great quality, and the color story is unique and fun.
