Aveda Art of Nature Collection for Spring 2013

Aveda’s Art of Nature collection is inspired by nature, boasting pure pastels and vibrant colors. Janell Geason, Artistic Director Aveda Makeup, introduces a blossoming color palette — created with a conscience. Aveda makeup goes beyond minerals with natural plant ingredients that are gentle to skin — and the planet — while sheer to intense shades for eyes and lips create a romantic flush of color.

“We’re seeing a return to color in makeup with techniques that create a more lived-in, less ‘done’ look,” says Janell Geason, Artistic Director for Aveda makeup. “Our new makeup collection starts with pure pastels like the first buds of spring, and builds into lush, high-summer color.”

I’ve never heard of this brand, don’t think we have it in Europe, sadly. The girl in the photos is just stunning! So jealous of her hair.

tamara Avatar

It originated in Europe they have a lot salons in the UK i believe. Its a great brand you should definitely check it out. All of their products are natural!

Actually, Aveda products aren’t ‘natural’, although they like to claim they are. If you take a close look at their ingredients lists – whether it’s
hair care, skin care or cosmetics – they still use silicones, synthetic fragrances, alcohols & other chemicals, mixed with some ‘natural’ ingredients. Their marketing claims are way overblown. They have some OK products, but nothing I would rave about after trying their hair, skin & cosmetic items. There are definitely better brands out there for similar & far cheaper prices.

It’s an american brand. Horst Rechelbacher founded it. The headquarters are right outside of Minneapolis. No one large company is going to be completely natural. The permanent spectrum of color is 96% naturally derived. The demi permanent, deposit only spectrum of color is 99% naturally derived. They have the only 100% certified wind powered plant. One aveda company alone raised over $30,000 for earth month donations. They connect with indigenous people to source ingredients and help provide them with necessities. Yes, you might be able to find other high end hair product brands that might yield similar results, but you wouldn’t find a cheaper alternative. Shampure costs under $12 dollars for a bottle that can last you months. I feel that maybe you weren’t using the right products for your conditions. It is available in Europe. They have academies in a few countries. Now you know a few more FACTS about Aveda.

First of all..the models colouring is so damn beautiful! Ridiculous, but I’ve always coveted red hair and fair peaches and cream skin. Second, and more to the point, I recently purchased an Aveda eyeshadow from this collection as my hairdresser runs an Aveda salon. I purchased the Cinnamon bark eyeshadow and it is a really gorgeous neutral deep reddish brown–like Cinnamon sticks, but with an interesting hit of cool red to neutralize it (Xamyx you might like this ‘red’ too)–and I found the shadow to have really good payoff (caveat: I always wear primer) and it lasted the entire day without creasing or fading. I didn’t want to purchase additional products since I have never tried Aveda cosmetics prior to this purchase. On my next salon visit, I want to buy additional eyeshadows and perhaps even pick up both the lipsticks. The red is gorgeous..on my hairdresser. He put it on so I could see it in action. Love that guy! 🙂

Do you know how Cinnamon Bark compares (or differs) from MAC Handwritten? I’ve been thinking of trying that with red, since I have it already. I’m trying sooo hard to finish a few products before buying more, LOL, and I *know* if I walk into the Aveda store, well…

I’ll likely be at the mall with an Aveda store next week, so maybe I’ll swatch it. Thanks!

I just googled MAC handwritten and I can’t believe I do not own this shade! I looked at it and shook my head in disbelief. How has this not crossed my path? Anyhow, the Aveda shade is shimmer and a shade lighter. I’ll try and swatch it tomorrow and post on Flickr. The underside of my wrist is very fair and probably closer to your skintones to give you a better idea on how it translates to you.

well… this is the first time nothing in a collection has appealed to me at all. I’m not really fond of that green shadow in the promo image either :/.

Tennyoceres Avatar

Individually the pieces don’t look interesting. But put it all together and it definitely feels like a sunny spring day. Maybe I can check out the local Aveda store and do some swatches.

These promo pictures are so beautiful!
My sister used to work at an Aveda salon for a long time and got me hooked on their hair care. I haven’t used much of their makeup, but I sure want to try these limited editions! So pretty!

artemis Avatar

mint ISN’T moisturising, quite the CONTRARY, it’s irritates, especially lips.

the girl is SO gorgeous and so is the make-up and the way it’s presented…too bad

Dusty Avatar

I’ve used Aveda lipsticks longer than ANY other lipstick – seriously! We’re talking for WELL over a decade. I’ve never had a single person (obviously myself included) complain or say they were bothersome at all. I’ve always found them to be one of the more comfortable lipsticks to wear 🙂 Just a heads up if you haven’t ever tried them!

blueraccoon Avatar

I really like mint in lip products. I like the scent and the bit of tingle I get from it, but I wouldn’t call it irritating at all. The promo shots are gorgeous, and I’m really tempted to check out this collection.

Zainab Avatar

She looks like a Dante Gabriel Rosetti painting. Beautiful images, of the products to. It reminds me a bit of the more ‘New Agey’ makeup aesthetic from the 90s

Dusty Avatar

Aside from the limitations of having every promo shot BASICALLY look the same (makeup WITH leaves LOL) I always thought product photography for Aveda would be a dream job! 🙂 The shots are always so nice to look at – much more interesting than what you usually see.

I bought the face powder but I haven’t tested it yet LOL! The lipsticks in this collection are OMG BRIGHT! That red is NICE! 🙂

Deb Avatar

YES!! As a very fair red head myself with blue eyes I am just smitten with these pictures. Beautiful. I just wish I looked like the model. But at least it shows that some of the so-called rules can be broken with great results. Blue eyed girls can wear green eyeshadow and I do it all the time. I think it is especially nice the way it plays off of our red hair and white skin. To those of you that think this looks awful I can say many things but out of respect for Christina I will only say this: you try having this many stark contrasts in your coloring, then find flattering makeup in a market that predominately and primarily caters to blondes and brunettes. Love to hear what you come up with.

Julia Avatar

I first saw this posting on my droid phone and my first reaction was she’s wearing clown makeup in the first picture! But colors get intensified on my phone. My second reaction was to notice how stunning the model is despite the makeup. On my laptop the colors are more muted but still too much applied all together for me. I would try it toned done. I’ve had good experience with Aveda and I appreciate the brighter colors. One thing for sure is they have one beautiful memorable model.

Jenny Avatar

I love Aveda products and I’ve never been disappointed in the quality or coloring. I’m more of an earthy girl and their shades are absolutely natural and beautiful.
