What was your biggest misconception about indie brands?

Maybe that they weren’t worth the wait? They’re not always worth a long turnaround time but for the most part, I think they are. I think on a general level, some believe it’s all private-labeled, when there are brands that are definitely creating their own formulas, or that they’re made in someone’s kitchen – there are several popular indie brands that have premises just for creating, manufacturing, and shipping their products.

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

That they are affordable or guaranteed good quality and better than mainstream etc. They can be affordable and there are some amazing indie brands but it’s not a guarantee. Lots of bad too . Just FYI

“or that they’re made in someone’s kitchen” – THIS!
I actually believed that many were made exactly like the part you wrote above, Christine! And so, for obvious sanitary reasons, I avoided certain ones. Others, such as Lime Crime, due to scandalous behavior on the part of owners. And yet a few more because of their very spiritistic brand culture and shade names with references to false deities, witchcraft or demonic sources.

I probably ought to have been more clear in my description, Jack. My reference would apply especially for names of pagan origin, for instance: Bastet. However, to be honest, I don’t even want anything named after my own chosen faith, either. Like, please, NO religiosity for any faith in shade names would be fantastic!

I think the issue for me regarding indie brands is their ability to ship internationally and their manufacturing process/ingredients. I want to be sure that the products are created in a top notch hygienic facility using quality ingredients.
