Lush Retread Conditioner -- Perhaps as a Hair Treatment

Lush Retread Conditioner ($22.35 for 8.4 fl. oz.)

I’m usually a big fan of Lush products, but this product left me wanting more. I found that this conditioner didn’t work as well as conditioners I’ve tried in the past (AG Hair, Herbal Essences, etc.), but what dismayed me is I felt like I needed to use quite a bit in order to cover all the hair I wanted to condition. I feel like if I used this as my regular conditioner, I’d probably go through the jar in a month–and I have shorter hair now! I think the problem I have with it is I can’t “work it in.” It just feels like it stays put wherever it first comes in contact with my hair, so I can’t spread it or work it through my hair at all.

The scent of Retread is an organic-floral kind of scent. There’s that more traditional organic scent (though not nauseating), but you can sniff a little perfume-y floral-ness to it, as well. The scent does linger a bit in the hair after rinsing the product out, and it’s one of those smells you either love, can put up with, or just hate. Since it lingers, you’ll want to try to do a sniff-test before you bring it home with you! (I was mostly indifferent, personally!)

I do feel this product is better suited as a leave-in conditioner or a hair mask worn for five minutes or so outside of the shower with damp-to-almost-dry hair. I think wrapped up in plastic, it will condition better. Since it would be used more as a treatment than part of your day-to-day routine, it would also allow you to stretch the product out over time and get more value out of it.

I agree hermana. Retread is a bit too much for a conditioner –at least a daily one. As for using it as a treatment; it works; but I am in love with their Henna Frizz-Eaze nowadays!!!

Thanks for the review!!!

My favorite Lush conditioner is American Cream. It might not work the same for you but it is GODLY on my curly hair. I use that in combination with their New! solid shampoo bar. I have been singing their praises everywhere. It leaves my hair so silky feeling without weighing it down and it tames my hair! I did a little test with a wash and condition with no styling products. Normally with other brands, my hair is left looking like the bride of frankenstein without styling products. Not so with these two lush products.

Here are my pics:

Before with commercial brands!

After with Lush!

I find that with Lush, you have to get used to the fact that they don’t have silicone in them (shampoos and conditioners) so it almost feels like they don’t condition – there’s none of that slippery feeling. Once you do get used to it, and once you see how soft and shiny and healthy your hair is, you’ll never go back to using nasty chemicals on your hair!

Lol every time I scroll past this entry I think it says “Retard” (I know that’s bad). But actually I just recently purchased this! Though I haven’t had time to try it out yet.

I love Retread for it’s conditioning, but it smells like a barn to me (straw, not manure). I couldn’t get over the scent, but when I grew my hair out and didn’t trim it often enough this stuff saved me.

Now that my hair is a bit shorter and the split ends are gone American Cream is enough for me, and the smell is amazing (Cream is advertised as a double strength conditioner, and Retread is triple strength). I used Big before I dyed my hair, now I use Trichomania because it’s a lot gentler. Also: coconut!

I agree that you have to get used to Lush conditioners. I didn’t feel like they did anything in the shower: they don’t feel slippery or like any conditioner I’ve used. But the results are worth it to me.

Although I will share my new hair obsession: It’s A 10 conditioner and “miracle leave-in product”. Best thing that’s happened to my hair in ages.

Has anyone tried Hair Essentials Vitamins from Natural Well Being company. Do they really work. Would greatly appreciate any feedback from any of you.
