Have you ever purchased a fragrance discovery set?

Absolutely! It’s one of the best parts about the fragrance niche, IMO, to actually have brands offer more affordable, trial sizes of their scents. The last one I bought was a Fort & Manle set.

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Yes. Commodity, Phlur, Creed, Nest, and the Hermes garden set. The H is gorgeous, including the packaging. The travel sizes of so many are must-haves, once you choose from the sampler sets. Might do Matriarch and a few from BPAL. It’s like m/u and clothes, once you know the DNA of a house, you are likely to enjoy others.

No I haven’t. I know what fragrances I love and I purchase those. With the ease of sampling scents in-store, I really don’t see the point of spending money for samples of scents I might not like at all. I know some fragrance sample sets include a pretty decent coupon to purchase a full size of whichever included sent you might want but this too isn’t really an incentive for me.

Once. They’re usually not a good option for me. My preferences and skin chemistry go against the mainstream so in the end I’ll often blow money on what was never meant for me in the first place.

On the plus side, decades of disappointment have honed my abilities to pick out what has the best chances of working so my hit/miss rate is way, waaay better (though still quite low).

I bet a sampler set based off of the same kinds of notes but with a variety of different *houses* would be something useful for people like me. That way one doesn’t get locked in to perhaps the same disagreeable base.

No I haven’t actually purchased any. They are not easily available to pick and choose where I live – I would have to travel into the city to a major department store for that. I have been tempted by an online retailer that I often use – they sell samplers for Creed etc. but I haven’t because really I would like to try them first.

Yes, I love trying them out. I just recently received a discovery set from Montale and from Hermetica. Just today I ordered 2 from BDK and a small one from Narciso Rodriguez. I have turned into a shameless fraghead!

Discovery sets are the best! It’s the best way to try something new without commiting to a huge bottle–very economical. Usually I am OK with just a sample vial of something anyway. I like just a “taste” of something new.

I do! Where I live fragrance salespeople can be so pushy that they make it hard to properly try new fragrances, I don’t like judging fragrances based on first impressions so fragrance sets and samples work for me

I just bought a Replica set of 10 scents at Sephora today. I was interested in trying several of their fragrances (Sailing Day, Under the Lemon Tree, Lazy Sunday Morning, By the Fireplace, and Coffee Break), and all them are in this set…which also includes Jazz Club, Bubble Bath, Beach Walk, Autumn Vibes, and Springtime in a Park. The only one I wanted that wasn’t in the set was When the Rain Stops, which I bought as a travel spray. (Today I tried Coffee Break, which turned too powdery on me, so I’ll find someone to give it to.)
