We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Much less often now than 2 years ago…partly because of COVID and all the lockdowns and my own caution about going into malls especially when the masking rules are so lax, but also because I just have so much makeup, most of which I’ve hardly made a dint in, and, as I’ve said so often, that diminishes my actual enjoyment of what I have. I was at Sephora this week to take advantage of the 15% off (whoopie!) but that was the first time in a looong time, just because I honestly need so little!

It varies. I’m trying to be mindful. I have no interest in going into stores because they gave up valuing life here a long time ago. So, I pick up only a few inexpensive things every few months- online.

For me it’s on a need to buy basis, as I run my makeup collection on a replace finishing items rule. And since I track estimated times to finish, I usually bulk my purchases around sales.
So I might make several purchases in 1-2 weeks during sales periods (around Black Friday, my birthday, etc.), then purchase nothing for 1-2 months.

Much less often than I did before the lockdown a little over 2 years ago. Seems like the pandemic just sucked the joy out of either purchasing or even wearing makeup the way I did before that. And I would go far enough to say that this likely happened to many others. And I ask myself: Was it the masks? Was it the isolation? Or was it basically because it was such a strange, depressing time?
Probably all of the above.

For me it was the depressing time, other than wearing a mask when grocery shopping and visiting the veterinary my life was just the way it always is. I think it’s because I’m kind of an introvert, I like being alone, with the dog, and now my son. I always thought of myself as a lone wolf. I can, and do like hanging out with friends but I need a long time to rest after so I don’t do it often.

I seem to be in the opposite mindset to you and many others, Nancy, because I’ve been dedicated to wearing a different makeup look every day since Ohio had its first shutdown in spring 2020 and I’ve found it to be a very joyful and positive thing! The way I see it is that no matter how chaotic the pandemic or anything else going on in the world might be, I’m in total control of what makeup I wear for the day, even if the rest of the world feels out of control!

On average at least once every six weeks because that’s when I get a new Clinique eyeliner. I never buy two in the event I outgrow it and it only lasts 6 weeks. I wear eyeliner every single day so I can whip through a tube fast.

I buy makeup about once a month. With the amount of products I have I think that is too often. I am considering going to a replacements-only no buy for the rest of this year. I completed a no-buy last year and this year going back to being able to spend freely on makeup has been difficult.

I do get the sense that many brands are still recovering from the pandemic and their workforce is quite decimated due to illness as there seems to be a slowing down of releases – which is no bad thing because it means we shop our stashes more and appreciate what we have.
How often I buy makeup is actually a bit of a random event. Sometimes I will see lipsticks that I have really liked on this blog and have managed to find them on sale – like Shiseido’s Visionary Gel lipsticks and then I have purchased the ones I like. Ditto for a new foundation that I happened to try – more than half price off and I decided to purchase a bottle and found I loved it – went back and got some more.
As for eyeshadows – these are more ‘planned’ purchases as they have to be reviewed here on this blog and get your seal of approval. I then have to work out where to purchase from – usually an international one – as in the case of Lorac – which is not sold here in Aus. I tend to like ‘your’ autumn releases more than any other collection during the makeup year.

So to answer the question – maybe every few months or more.

Not nearly as often as I used to.
After having my young dog having surgery twice and spend two weeks in intensive care before I had to give up and let him go to doggy heaven, then having my older dog also get surgery but only after a CT of his liver that I had to pay for myself. I spent thousands and thousands and then some on them, I have to reduce all costs, therefore my no buy, though this month it’s a low buy. I used to buy something once or twice a month, now maybe I buy something every four month, and only things that fill a hole in my stash, or at least I imagine it does or things I use daily like skincare.
