What were the most disappointing product purchases you made in 2021?

Urban Decay Naked Cyber (what a great theme–duochromes–and terrible execution!), Bite Beauty’s new lipstick launch (totally different type of formula, which is one that doesn’t perform that well on me), and Bite Beauty Whipped Blushes.

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thanks to Temptalia and to you, Christine, I’ve pretty much avoided major disappointments. The only things that come close are Benefit Cookie highlighter (soooo shiny) and ABH Rosette eyeshadow (it’s supposed to be shimmer or metallic finish but mine seems not very shimmery and a bit more red than is easy for me to wear; I still wear it but have to be “judicious” in where I apply it and what I pair it with).

Auric Glow Lust. I know I know, literally everyone loves it. I find the formula to be just too thick and heavy for my preferences and I don’t love the color. It’s nice for mixing in with body lotion though.

Hourglass Veil Translucent setting powder! Everyone raves about it but on my skin it was dry, patchy, and changed the overall colour of my makeup!

“Neutrogena Sheer Zinv Dry-Touch Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50 –. Greasy and sticky. Makeup didn’t lay well over it at all. Just awful.

*ColourPop That’s Taupe Palette — the mattes are awful. Powdery and they blend away.

*UD Naked Ultra Violet Palette — It’s not an awful palette, and I love the peach side. I got mine for $10 due to a website glitch, but I would have been disappointed if I’d paid full price. The purples were underwhelming, especially the dark shimmer.

An Ouai conditioner that had such a strong floral scent it gave me a migraine. And once again I put faith in another The Ordinary serum, only to have a horrible reaction. Bye to both those brands !

This will seem odd, but most disappointing for me this year were a number of eyebrow products (tarte, Benefit, ColourPop, Maybelline, NYX, etc.)
I was diagnosed with frontal fibrosing alopecia this year and have lost most of my eyebrows so I have been on the hunt for an eyebrow product to fill in my brows on days when I am not wearing any other makeup and am having a devil of a time.
My blond hair has turned a very light silver so I need a cool toned blond or very light grey, which is hard enough to find as it is, but the ones I have found don’t work on bare skin.
Pencils will not go on my bare skin, at all.
Brow pens and pomades work, but I can’t find a good color and they seem to dry out super fast.
Brow powders will go on, but I can’t figure out how to get them on so the edges look clean.
Granted, I have not tried everything yet, but I am getting tired of spending money on products only to be disappointed.

I was really disappointed in the Tacha Silk Powder. Loose powder meant to be silky and smoothing was chalky and yellow…and so expensive! Fail!
It Cosmetics Hello Lashes newest formula also disappointed in a big way. It was as if I applied nothing to my lashes and I gave it a few chances.
I love trying new mascara and this one did absolutely nothing for my lashes.

1. Gucci Satin Lipsticks – very thick & pasty looking formula. Not elegant feeling on the lips, I love their Brilliant formula.

2. Jaclyn Hill Brightening Setting Powders – both the white and 4 color pan. I will use them up but it was money wasted.

3. Blinc Amplified Mascara – SOOOO dry feeling – it doesn’t coat lashes well without the primer underneath and for me 2 products is an extra step I don’t have time for.

Urban Decay Brow Blade. My whole experience with that was just “yuck.” as everything about it that could be bad, was. The pencil was too fat and the color didn’t match the liquid end – which was too thin of a formula/color, green, and didn’t deposit evenly – and both lids popped off and wouldn’t go back on about a week in to use. I tried to return it, but Sephora was a HUGE dick this year. They had a long return time for 2020, but shortened it to 30 days last year at literally the time we all had access to the vaccine. By the time I was able to get vaccinated fully (which, again, was the second it was available to me) and return the item safely in store it was a few days past the 30 day order date…..which did not account for the nearly two weeks it spent in transit. The manager wasn’t terribly friendly and I found the whole experience to put a bad taste in my mouth where both UD and Sephora were concerned.
