Did your beauty purchasing habits change over the past year?
I have been trying to cut back on skincare purchases, even backups, because I have a lot of skincare that I need to test out and get through first, so I think I have been successful there–especially in the last four to five months.
I wish I could say that I have changed my purchasing habits, but no I have not. If anything,
I have ramped up due to stress.. This coming year though, I will be on a no-buy for the start of it! I have WAY TOO MUCH of everything.
Makeup buys have been pretty low and I’ve been consistently giving things away. Skincare has increased though. I’ve taken a different approach where I purchase based on active ingredients and rotate those through various product during the day and night. Keeps my skin from getting used to formulas, but the active ingredients I need (AOX, peptides, HA, retinal, C, etc) are there.
I have been trying to curtail my Sephulta (and Amazon) habits and am buying from brand websites or independent local stores when possible. I also am giving preference to women-owned businesses and, secondarily, indie businesses in general.
The portmanteau of the year: Sephulta. Yes! Amazon is almost unavoidable. My drill is three strikes, then Amazon. I try 3 places, luck out, and give in. Certainly KB/AB skincare, but I bought a SNOWBLOWER that surely is rated for ponypower. Small but mighty and functional. Who knew you could get a βpersonalβ snowblower? Online, yet? Iβm a person who remembers mom&pop everything and resisted Walmart, etc, Amazon blows my mind. Being my age, I think I should go on an Amazon Capitalistic Pigs! protest, but I keep on ordering. Maybe Iβll put a Woodstock decal on itβ¦.
I would have to say so. A few years ago, I began to realize that I had more than enough makeup for a small army, and so decided that I would cut way back and only buy things that I absolutely loved and knew that I would use often enough to justify the cost. The first couple years, I wasn’t all that successful. However, I’m actually very proud of myself for not being Rouge at Sephora in 2022! Or Platinum at Ulta, either. So I must be doing something right for a change. And it feels so refreshing! A feeling that is quite surprising to me.
I totally agree! When I moved into a house June 2020, I deliberately culled many things, makeup/skincare/haircare among the endless dishes and linens. Youβre right, itβs refreshing to look, see just what I want/need/enjoy without plowing through endless βclutterβ β¦ less is nice. Less eases many burdens.
Not really, I still purchase products based only on needs (as they finished), buy from the same companies and spend about the same amount of money. But with several favorite items being out of stock for months, I tend to purchase backs-ups more time in advance. I like to re-purchase same products again and again, and I hate when an item I like is out of stock so I have to search for an alternative.
Not really – I still purchase cosmetics sparingly and usually around my birthday and Christmas, when often eye palettes seem to come out (because it is your autumn in the northern hemisphere) that suit me.
I have quite a few lipsticks and backups, so I am all good there too.
My staples are purchased as needed locally here.
As for skincare, I tend to ‘stock up’ during sales of my favourite argon oil, day and night moisturisers , cleansers and serums. I like to try different brands to see how they work on my skin.
Yes, I went back to the simple and pure Erno Laszlo brand. This time Iβm using the white marble brightening cleansing bar and lotion. Itβs done wonders for my skin. It truly does brighten and makes my skin feel clean and youthful. Two products and voila π€π€π€π€
Not as much as I had thought, but I did buy less makeup, something I had planned and hoped to be able to do. Resisting the urge to buy everything pretty, it’s tough, but has to be done.
I did buy less skincare as well, so yes it did change.
Next year I have to do better and save a lot more as this year has had unexpected costs for the dogs and Stubbs has to have special food, and a lot of medication all quite expensive.
So saving to get some more money for the “unexpected bills” also electricity is ridiculously expensive right now, so next year I’ll only buy what I actually need and also if something is so lovely and unique I feel a real need, not just a want. Oh, but this isn’t answer to the question, so going to stop right here. π
My makeup buying habits have stayed the same, because it is therapeutical for me in two ways. Firstly, because I LOVE getting new lipsticks and other cosmetics. Secondly, because I “have” to get new things regularly to be able to write about them on my blog. And keeping my blog(s) running at a steady pace has been even more important to me these last years, because that is the one thing I feel I have control over and can be proud of. So I have been buying more lipsticks… and using up a few too!
