What ratio of shimmer/matte do you prefer in a cheek palette?

I prefer a little shimmer in most of my cheek products, so I’d say mostly shimmer – but I don’t mind low-level shimmer, like satin.

I rarely buy cheek palettes because they almost always include shades I simply do not wear – very orange, brown or coral/peach blushes – so the finish isn’t even an issue for me…it’s the assortment of colours. If there was a cool toned (pink, rose, plummy burgundy) blush palette, I’d probably go “3 to 1” sheen/shimmer to matte.

In thinking about my ideal palette, I would say maybe 75/25 matte/shimmer. In practice, I actually wouldn’t mind all matte or all matte and one sheer topper. While my favorite finish is satin with a very low level sheen or pearl (not enough to be a “shimmer” but just enough it doesn’t fall flat like many mattes can), I actually like mattes for the ability to layer product and control the amount of shimmer to the occasion.

This presumes an all blush or blush and topper palette. I generally avoid cheek palettes that try to be everything to everyone and include contour and/or bronzer and highlight in addition to blush, especially if they don’t offer the palettes in a variety of ranges. Either the undertones or the depth tends to be way off for me making 50% or more unusable.

Depends on the size and types of products.
In a blush palette only, 1 shimmer in 6 pans and 2 shimmers in 8 pans is more than enough for me. My go-tos are matte blushes.
If it’s a palette with contour and shaping products, or a mix of contour and blushes, I would even prefer all mattes.
