Clinique Cheek Pop Pearl Swatches
Clinique Cheek Pop Pearl is the successor to the brand’s Cheek Pop formula. There are six shades, which all hover around more light to mid-depth and warmer hues. I was really disappointed that this wasn’t used as an opportunity to diversify the shade range, and at the very least, a shade like Cola Pop didn’t return.
From initial use, they seem very similar to the original Cheek Pops, though they seemed to have less luminosity and slightly more obvious pearl, though fine and definitely not overtly shimmery on. They seemed a little more yielding and picked up more readily with a blush, were truer to builder coverage, but didn’t “melt” quite as beautifully as the original (we are talking degrees of beautiful, not a massive difference).
I would not have minded these as an extension of the existing shades. These are incredibly light and nowhere nearly as pigmented. Hardly diverse. And they seem an odd choice to issue with a set of >7 different tones of red. From my POV, I doubt I’d use any of these blushes with those reds. I see these as a ‘backslide’ from the original cheek pops. And I doubt that Clinique would go back to the original, like new Coke was d/c’d and replaced with the original Coke, by popular demand, lol.
Garnet pop has my attention
Same here. I’ll be paying close attention to Christine’s reviews of these.
I have it and it’s lovely! If you like the original formula, I think you’ll like this too as it’s not much different. The finish has more glow than the classic formula but there’s no glitter.
Garnet, Rose Quartz and Ruby all have my attention, with Garnet in the lead. I am eager to see how you rate them, Christine, and how they review.
Thanks for the swatches. Unfortunately they don’t excite me at all. I wonder why the dc’ed the originals, they were so beloved.
Since they reformulated I’m not surprised the initial release is limited. Hopefully there will be more shades later on.
These shades all look nice, I’m just confused why these are the only shades? There should be a couple of deeper and more intensely pigmented shades.
Are the originals getting the chop…?? These look OK but… WHY??
Yes, the range was discontinued!
Hi Christine, I asked Clinique’s customer service about 2 weeks ago if the Cheek Pop line was being discontinued and they said no. Do you know if that means the original formula is being discontinued and replaced by this new Pearl one or is there some mixed information around?
Clinique massively discounted all the original shades, and they’re no longer available at all on their site!
WHAT?! Torn between picking up a shade that I’ve been hemming and hawing on or waiting for Sephora to slash the price, then…
Probably wait, keep an eye on it! Clinique cleared theirs out, and Nordstrom has one in stock, I think… Sephora and Macy’s both seem to have a fair amount of stock. Sephora shows 15% off (probably matching Macy’s? I don’t know) for Clinique for a limited time, but they were on deeper discount than that via Clinique directly.
While I do like Ruby and Garnet Pop, what did they do with my Cola Pop??? Mind you, I have plenty left, as baked gelée can seriously last through many, many uses. But; Clinique, bring it back.
If you want backups, Cola Pop is available at Sephora, QVC and Ulta.
Thank you for letting me know about that, Cara! I will get at least one. Mine has to be more than 5 years old, but because of it being a baked gelée, the flower is still visible even though I use it quite often in fall and winter.
I have Garnet Pop and I was really happy that the formula and finish isn’t too different from the original Cheek Pops, of which I have many. I didn’t know at first that these new shades were a different formula and I’m not sure if I would have noticed. Garnet Pop looks great on my very fair, cool toned skin and although the finish is more glowing than skin-like/satin (like the originals), there’s no glitter. I can’t speak to the other new shades but Garnet Pop is a winner for me.
Why brands d/c their beloved products is beyond me…these look good, perhaps a bit more matte in the photos. Coral Pop would be the one I would choose, but I will wait for the reviews.
Yep, I was right. Nothing here catches my eye. I love Pansy Pop and Cola Pop and nothing in this line up is even remotely close.
I had hoped these were to be an extension to the old Cheek Pops. I really like the old ones a lot. However I see some that looks good here as well. I’ll decide after the reviews are published if I want to try any of these. Mind you, I do absolutely not need more blushes.
I don’t know if this is true or not, but several of the postings in Asia list these as limited edition, and we know that they always get more colours than we do. If true, that would account for the limited colour range. Also, Clinique’s N.A. instagram confirmed that the blushes aren’t discounted and will be back soon.
Clinique doesn’t have consistent messaging since some readers were specifically told by Clinique (at counter and online) that the blushes were discontinued, unfortunately! 🙁 This doesn’t mean that Clinique won’t bring it back in some form, if the Cheek Pop Pearls is not it. Sephora has four the six new Cheek Pop Pearl shades, and they’re not listed as limited edition – Clinique live chat said they were permanent as well. I have not found that brands are that great about discontinued products – they usually hedge and say it’s not until they’re long gone 🙁
IMO, none of that really justifies having a light-leaning spectrum of shades, though; darker skin tones should get to enjoy limited edition releases as well.
Oh that’s a bummer. Too bad companies can’t be consistent in their messages. I agree that it’s not a good justification for releasing just lighter shades. Some of the pans look richer in colour, so it’s unfortunate they don’t swatch that way.
Opal Pop is so tempting!
