What would you like to see in an autumn makeup collection?
I’d love to see someone go full grunge! Lots of taupe – gray-taupe, bronze-taupe, purple-taupe. Lots of earthy greens – think green-golds, sage green, olive green, deep forest green.

All those greens you mentioned. I’m really drawn to them. Love a good olive green. Oh and camo colors for fall! 💛💚🧡🤎❤
Deep, deep, deeeep smoked jeweltones. Rich dark burgundies, bronzes, reds, taupey grays, forest greens…just like you’d taken a handful of precious jewels and combined them with woodsmoke. Just rich and glittering and so impossible to manufacture because the bottom dollar would always prevent the real quality necessary to do it justice.
I’m a grunge girl too and often mix in some dirty deep orange tones during fall, but man, nothing beats a sparkling rich jewel shadow nestled in the smoked out rest of your eye.
It would be a mash-up of Dior’s LE Bonne Etoile 5-pan, Chanel Empreinte du Desert and a burgundy brown shade (UD’s Weirwood Leaves or Dior’s New Look #3 and also a shade like UD Casterly Rock (same UD palette as Weirwood Leaves) or Marc Jacobs Brav-O! O!mega shadow tossed in for good measure. Maybe a purple like MAC’s Fathoms Deep as well…
Yes, I would buy that – my kind of shades too.
I forgot that this was a “collection” rather than merely (ha! “merely”) an eyeshadow palette. Decades and decades ago, Estee Lauder had a lipstick in one of their autumn collections called Datenut Red. I still have a nubbin of it in a drawer because I’m STILL trying to match it! It was a warm red but not “orange” at all – more slightly browned, I guess, and just the perfect red for autumn. I had a similar shade from Ultima II (can’t recall the name). They were the perfect red lipsticks for me for autumn. Lauder also had a blush in the same collection – a lovely ripe apple red. Those items would be ones I’d love to add to an autumn collection.
I like to see a clear theme that scream “fall”, not just basic all year round shades. And also to see depth of color.
There’s so many types of color stories one could go for fall, but I like a clear theme, not just all the colors of the autumn in one.
If it goes by nature, colors of the leaves, it truly needs to be unique colors, not just another reds and yellows in the same old shades… I want to know without being told that’s a fall palette.
I know that usually for lips it’s easy to go the burgundy route in fall, but more wine inspired palettes and blushes are needed.
Fall definitely makes me think more of plum colors, from graped to plums/prunes. It would be nice to see a plum color story.
Maybe it’s just me, but ai associate grunge more with winter, rather than fall. For me fall is very warm toned, while grunge is cool.
As a person on which warm tones and red/yellows/oranges don’t look good, I would love seeing a brand reinventing these shades in a way that could even look good one me.
EYES — purple-, geen-, and blue- based taupes and grays in matte and shimmers. Antique gold, green-gold, and greenish pewter shimmers.
LIPS — Deep, sheer, glossy, plums, blackened berry, and burgundies. Lipsticks in greige, olive with gold pearl, burnt orange and pumpkin, burgundy, and blue-based gray.
CHEEKS — Sheer, buildable creams in neutral red (that doesn’t sheer out to pink), and burnt orange. Powder blushes in satin finish plums and mauves.
FACE — Inclusive ranges of satin finish foundation, concealers, and powders.
This is really specific, but I’ve been completely enamored by the color Cactus, by Dominique Cosmetics (https://www.temptalia.com/product/dominique-cosmetics-eyeshadow/cactus/) and I’ve noticed there aren’t many dupes for it from anyone. I’d love to see a palette like you describe, Christine, but with some greens that are similar to the color Cactus in undertone.
Oh, I wanted to add that I chose that color because it reminds me of Hubbard Squashes, which are such a beautiful fall vegetable that my family grows. It would be near to have a palette based on the fall harvest, but without any orange… like the colors of the squashes and Indian corn.
That’s a beautiful matte dusky teal! I’m in agreement on a grungy palette with some a bright chartreuse, mustard yellow, and cornflower blue matte in the mix. I wanted the It’s Freaking Bats palette but it’s already sold out…less than 3 weeks after restock. 🙄
Some of my favorite Indian Corn varieties are Hopi Blue, and Glass Gem. When I was a kid I loved opening and bunching the Indian Corn for sale at our vegetable stand. The colors are so gorgeous and each ear is different.

Wow Jo, that corn is beautiful! There’s a shimmer quality to the deep, rich colors. Now I’m looking at Quintessance and Radiant Reflection palettes and will definitely use this pic as inspiration for fall looks. 😀
Earthy greens – yes, in a satin formula.
As a Northern NJ gal living in Arizona, I CRAVE all the shades of fall leaves, evergreens, and even the occasional slate gray skies tinged with lilac, red, orange as the sun sets. Also, hot chocolate, spiced cider, baked acorn squash and red wine.
Greens. Dark greens with lots of luster and depth and prettiness! Greens with gold in them.
Christine, Have you seen the Berlin Underground palette by Nomad Cosmetics? I’m not sure if the brand is problematic, but the color story sounds very perfect for you given your description above! (I finally understand that you have a do not review list, and why some brands are on it. I came across a Reddit post about it, lol. It’s really great to read your perspective on issues with the brands or the people associated with the brands, or hear about your experiences. People really respect your views for the most part, and you have a great, positive influence on the beauty community. I can’t believe a brand said they’d never heard of you! That’s so ridiculous, and people’s responses to hearing they said that to you were hilarious).
Hi Jo!
They have had issues in the past with respect to the Orient Express palette and the Shanghai palette (and from my understanding, the issues were magnified by some of the brand’s own responses/actions after being called out), so they are definitely not on my list at the moment!
Here is one post that has some info/links to the Shanghai palette: https://www.reddit.com/r/Indiemakeupandmore/comments/lnzra2/nomad_cosmetics_shanghai_palette_is_no_more/
Thank you for your response and the link. I did see the Shanghai palette was pulled, and thought their response to the justified criticism was pretty solid, considering Colourpop had criticism for the it Sandstone Palette and never did anything about it. It sounded like people took offense to Nomad removing the comments/conversation about the palette, but they said they couldn’t keep up with the moderation of the comments and some people were saying racist and offensive stuff. I would never have even looked into stuff like this if I hadn’t started reading your posts here, and I think it’s really wonderful that you educate people about so much more than just makeup.
I didn’t realize people took offense to Agatha Christy’s book, “Murder on the Orient Express.” From what I saw, that palette is based on the book entirely, but I’ll have to look it up.
I don’t remember as much detail–sort of just emptied the details after deciding not to review the brand any time in the foreseeable future–after the Shanghai palette. Edited to add: Forgot to finish my thought, which was at the time, there were several readers who were engaged in the discussion/process with Nomad and they did not seem satisfied with the overall handling and outcome of it, so I didn’t continue to follow after that point.
ColourPop actually said they’d update the packaging design and shade names in the next production run!
Now this is a question I can easily answer as these shades are amongst my favourites.
In the one palette – I would like a champagne shade, a rose gold, an antique gold, a bronze, a sage, an olive green, a cool and warm taupe, an olive brown shade, a smokey dark blue, a warm brown and a burgundy shade.
I think Lorac has a palette with most of those shades… Their Pro Palette 2 or 3? I think… Also, since you know what shades you wish you had in one palette, I would totally seek out singles from MAC, ABH, Sydney Grace, MUG, etc. and make your own dream palette! Don’t wait when you can make it now! <3 hugs
Ditto on the greens! I also realized that I have a great autumn palette in the ZOEVA Electic Eyes palette even if it’s not the best of quality, it works well with other palettes. Your palettes are just great for the the fall as well. As I’m back from summer vacation, I’m hoping my daughter will send me On the Horizon (light) that I had sent to her. 😉
Yes, all the earthy colors, and muteds, greens, purples, bronzes, greys, taupes, mauves, and jewel toned metallics. I have so many in my collection that I have been saving for Autumn coming.
I would LOVE a cool toned autumn palette… shades of cool browns, dusty grays, purples, greens, etc… I just own 50+ warm toned palettes and still I find that the warm browns/reddish/orange shades make me look ill. I think it has to do with being fair/light but still olive complected… Because most people look great in warm tones, And its not just that I can’t pull it off, or its too outside my comfort zone (although it is now after all these years), it’s just that I look literally sick when warm shades are on my crease or above…
