Shimmery Eyeshadow
There’s something to dislike?? I love shimmery eyeshadow! I find there can be so much nuance in the finish, sheen, texture, effect, etc. Mattes are necessary, and I definitely have love for them, but the way I love shimmer eyeshadow is just unbeatable!

I don’t like the fallout (hey, Maui Wowie – how perfect you would be without the day long glitter storm). I love absolutely everything else and I’ve never listened to, subscribed to, had faith in or put in any weight into the statement (by WHOM, I’d like to know) that women over 40 shouldn’t wear glittery eyeshadows. Wayne Goss just added to my believe (shared with many here, I know) that a shimmery shadow on older lids can brighten not just the eye area by the whole face. Ha and so there!
Exactly, Christine.
My eyelids are so oily that shimmers don’t last long by themselves. It’s a production with a base and/or glitter glue. Some emphasize texture and don’t look like they do on my finger.
But when I can get them to work and look right, they’re wonderful.
I like how they add shine and interest to an eye look! An all-matte eye look just doesn’t seem complete to me.
The only thing that I can think of to dislike is that I get transfer on my lids sometimes when I use a shimmer as a liner. But that’s not much to worry about.
Um, what? We need shimmers and metallics for the pure beauty of them! Nothing like some interesting shimmery shades on my mobile lid and inner tear duct to make an eye look come to life.
No “dislikes” for me!
I like the glitter and pizzazz. The “look at me!” effect.
What I dont like is the fallout and as someone with oily skin, shimmer anything emphasizes the excess oil. Sometimes my skin is so bad, I can’t wear shimmer shadows at all. It’s a shame
I love shimmers! I think they add a beauty, interest, and dimension that mattes can’t provide. They blend more easily than mattes.
There’s not much to dislike. I don’t like when there’s a ton of fallout. Some of the new, flakier shimmers are tricky to apply, requiring using a finger or a spongetip applicator, or foiling, or glitter glue to work.
Something I tend to love on others, but hate on myself. It makes me look like my eyes are fat.. LOL. I can work more translucent versions, but the kind that makes me in awe from a single swatch are not the ones I generally prefer.
I’ve always loved glitter, the more the better! As long as it doesn’t emphasize my crepey lids I’m all over it.
I love, love and love shimmery eyeshadows. I love the effect they have on my eyes. Another finish I love is satin as well.
The only thing I don’t like about shimmery eyeshadows is when they are not firmly pressed into the pan and you get fallout (looking at you Lorac!).
I love shimmers. They add dimension and attraction to the eyes.. one of my favorite shadow formulas is the MAC veluxe pearl.. then they came out with the dazzle shadows.. Love!!! and my other singles that don’t get much love are the Dose of Colors block party eye shadows.. I tore through the “heart of Gold” shade and they seem to be discontinued.. hate it.
I feel I agree with what everyone else said – I love that shimmery eye shadow is eye-catching. It makes me feel pretty and I like being able to draw attention to my eyes in particular.
I also don’t like the fallout and I don’t like that for most of the shimmers I love (the super ultra super shimmery LOOK AT ME ones) I need the extra step of adding a glitter primer or tacky base for them.
I adore sophisticated sparkle on the eyes especially when I see it under the right lighting. It can be mesmerizing to say the least. I can also appreciate a beautiful swatch of shimmer.
Making the distinction between shimmer and metallic/glitter; shimmer can be used to sculpt and emphasize, and has subtle beauty. I am so over the visible-from-outer-space shine. It has that overdone, Instagram, heavy makeup counter look that is becoming only on a lucky few. I think it looks silly.
I prefer the shimmery or metallic shadows and I think they tend to last longer but they are more prone to creasing without a primer.
Concur with your comment Christine! I don’t care for when shimmer shadows have flicks of glitter, but other than that, if they stay semi-moist, creamy and pop with pigment (no matter the color), I’m good! Probably my most fav texture in an eye shadow (and metallic)!
