Do your color preferences for makeup change by season?
Only as much as releases do, so if there are more colorful releases in summer, then what I tend to wear reflects that. As an individual, I find that a season can inspire me, but that can go both ways! I might want a taste of summer when it’s cold and dreary or want to pull out beachy hues during summer.
Somewhat. I mean pastels on me in January look chalky. Just terrible. But in warmer months, they are a nice soft wash of color. Overall I just wear what I want and don’t change much from season to season but there are certain color stories that work better for certain seasons!
Yes, but not drastically.
Spring is especially noticeable because I’m so excited for pinks and peaches, which I don’t wear (not in lighter/pastel versions of those hues) much in the fall and winter.
In the summer I’ve got some tan and tend to move into warm shimmery tones and rosy sun-flushed shades overall.
Fall and Winter I lean more into mauves and maybe warmer browns.
A bit. Cheek and lipstick wise, I stay in the same colour families (peach and coral don’t suit me, no matter the season) though in winter, I’ll embrace darker burgundy and plum blushes, deeper red lipsticks. But eyeshadow – autumn is my favourite season and I really embrace the autumn shades of dark greens, bronzes, etc. as the weather cools. Perfect examples are the Dior Bonne Etoile and Chanel Empreinte du desert and Tisse d’automne palettes. I use these lightly, here and there throughout the year but once the cool weather comes, I love these types of colours and let them take center stage over the lighter shades I use in hot weather.
Yes, mine absolutely does! There are some colors that I love year round, but the tones I want changes each season for those, except for sky blue. I often will also essentially repeat colors but in different finishes, I like each season’s palette (because of course I have custom palettes made from singles 😝) to have a good mix of mattes, shimmers, metallics and duochromes so that I can create any look I want according to the weather outside, any current holiday I celebrate, and my imagination. I’m probably fairly unusual though, I don’t expect most people are as eccentric as me! 😆
No, I’m quite consistent with my preferences year round.
I tan quite easily, so there are some lipsticks and blushes that may suit more in specific season, according to my skin depth. However, regarding eyelook, where I can be very colourful, I do not have seasonal choices! I use what suits my mood and try to use different palettes as equal as possible
Hmm, a little bit, maybe? Like, I do tend to wear my very dark lipsticks, plummy or berry blushes, and smokier, cooler toned eyeshadows during our version of “winter”. And tend towards bronzey with a punch of real during summer, plus glossier lips, too. But with summer being a 5-6 month ordeal…I don’t wear as much color cosmetics as I do in winter.
Sorta. I mean, summery shades look awful on me, so I skip color then. Which is fine, I live in a humid place, so that’s the time that I don’t want to wear any makeup anyway. I go more colorful in fall thru spring, when I can move between jewel tones to silvers and blue-based reds. Smokey grays are year round.
I love all colors except that blue doesn’t look so good on me. In summer I wear less foundation so my skin is a bit warmer toned and that does make me gravitate to lighter, brighter colors. It’s not really a matter of color preference, though, just what happens to be more flattering.
Not for the most part. However, spring is when I might wear bright pastels on my eyes. Spring is also when I’m most likely to wear straight up pink lipstick and blush. I wear my darker-for-me berry and plum blushes more in fall and winter. I wear shimmery light neutral or nude-for-me eyeshadows more in summer, but that’s more due to heat and sweat making more colorful or elaborate eye looks impractical than preference.
Yep. Not by much, though. I have two lipsticks, one is a deeper, true red that I wear all year long, and the other is a very slightly warmer and lighter red that I wear in the Summer. My blush can be anything all year long, but I prefer red in the Winter, light pink or lilac in the Spring, orange, coral, or lilac in the Summer, and rose in the Fall… but I skip blush about half the time, anyway! I normally don’t wear eyeshadow, but sometimes coppers and golds are fun in the Fall, and neutral browns can be sultry in the Winter.
Oh, and for the record… I’m an Iowan. So we get all four seasons, pretty dramatically. I don’t skip makeup, even in our 90 degree Summers or 10 degree Winters. 😉
Yes, the seasons do affect what kind of eyeshadows I wear. For autumn/winter I tend to go with more neutral, olive and gold shades, whilst in spring/summer I look to more teals, mint and blue shades. This reflects the colours I have in my seasonal wardrobe.
I’m influenced by the seasons, but also find that a summery look cheers up a dreary winter day!
Not really. I sometime wear really cool colours in the summer and warm ones in the winter, the warmer it is the cooler my lips and eye lids and the other way around. Mostly however I just go by the mood of the day.
A little. Like I really crave brown lipsticks in the fall, but don’t gravitate toward that color during other times of the year. Likewise in the summer I’m always on the lookout for my perfect bright red-orange but I just don’t feel that shade during other seasons. With other things like eye shadows or blush and highlighter I don’t have much preference. Really it’s whatever I’m feeing that day.
