What are your go-to base products for summer?

I’m indoors most of the time, and frankly, in Phoenix, summer is our winter so avoiding the outdoors is kind of key for most of the hot, hot summer days, LOL! I like a good tinted moisturizer (loving Fenty Eaze Drops) or BB cream for a little bit of coverage but something that I can smooth back into place if it starts to sweat off of me. I am more apt to use a primer underneath my base (whatever I have open) if I need longer-wear and am only going to be in-and-out in the heat.

In the hot, humid days of summer, I do like a base product that combines sunscreen with some coverage and perhaps even some hydrating so I don’t have to layer on 5 different things on my face. IT CC Cream is a favourite and Marcelle used to make a fantastic tinted moisturizer with SPF – “City” something-or-other – but, of course, they discontinued it. I also really rely on Australian Gold Tinted Facial Sunscreen, usually over a facial oil or Embryolisse, as a “go to” if I’m going to be out running errands, out for a walk, etc.

IT Illuminating CC+ is my go to that has an SPF but I’ve been leaning into less coverage with MAC Studio Radiance Sheer mixed with Becca Dewing Tint in 4.
Sometimes I’ll mix that same Dewing Tint with TARTE’s Clay Tinted Moisturizer and apply with fingers.

I got a sample of TARTE SEA Hydroflex Serum Foundation, but found it really settles into lines, so I can’t see buying a full size.
I’d like to try both HUDA Glowish and Fenty Eaze Drops but I seem to have a lot of light foundations right now. 🙂

Also in the Phoenix area. The summers are BRUTAL. So I usually just go with Lumene BB Cream powdered over with Hourglass Dim Light. If I’m going somewhere more special, I’ll use primer and go with my heavy duty MAC Pro Longwear Waterproof Foundation instead, and not only set it with powder, but also with UD All Nighter setting spray in order to make it heat proof, humidity proof, but also monsoon proof!

That Prolongwear Waterproof is such a convenient item… I agree it doesn’t need setting with powder necessarily… and I loved it during travels because it can also replace the concealer. If I were to go on a summer road trip, it would be the perfect option for a lighter makeup bag. Haven’t tested it in a monsoon, but a part of me would definitely want to try. I guess I miss traveling too much. 😅

My go-to is an oldie, tried and perfected through many hot summers.

It starts with Paula’s Choice Smoothing Primer Serum (as both base and extra SPF). The foundation is either MAC Prolongwear Waterproof Foundation or Estee Lauder Double Wear (for me the formulas are almost identical). The concealer is MAC Prolongwear and all is set with MAC Blotting Powder (the newest addition in my routine).

I won’t deny that I used this combo during hot summer hikes (I never worn full makeup, but until 2-3 years ago I would still apply the base, brow gel and mascara… nowadays I go bare face).
And I won’t deny that in my early 20s I have participated in mud runs and other races with one of those two foundations on my face. 😅

I know most people consider those two foundations too heavy, but the secret is always applying the tiniest amount possible… when people squirt like 2-3 pumps on their face I get panicked… sometimes even a full pump is too much for me.

Sunscreen. Maybe just that and some spot concealing. If I want extra protection or evening out then I’ll put Ilia’s skin tint spf 40 over top. Spf in makeup IS NOT REAL SPF COVERAGE. *However* the iron oxides can offer protection against things normal spf might not cover. So I *always* use spf 50 every day (chemical so it’s clear and comfortable on my skin) and like to top it with mineral makeup. My skin is so dry that even if I leave the house a greaseball in the morning, in a few hours it feels like the sahara. The only real exception is my temples where my hair can get stuck and greasy, so maybe a touch of powder there. In this heat any base will melt, dry skin or no.

Ok I have tried so many foundations I prefer a light velvety finish , not too much glow .I’ve tried Guerlain SPF 30 , I’ve tried a ton on mineral foundations , and just received Surratt Surreal foundation which is un opened because I just know it’s the wrong color .
My dream would be an SPF sheer foundation that drys down like a powder..
On a whim I just found a drug store powder foundation that I love.it’s talc free which’s great because I have a slight itchy reaction to talc, and it was on sale for $6.99…
It’s Cover Girl “Clean Fresh “ foundation .after moisturizing and priming I use SuperGoop SPF 40 under it.
They also have concealer and a dewy skim milk foundation which is also in the Clean Fresh line .

It’s so humid where I live, NE PA. It’s not south central Florida humid, very little is Everglades in July humid, but it’s pretty bad. Everything sort of melts off, it all slowly slides it way down your face, it’s gross. I just use glossier skin tint & concealer, because it’s so light and sheer. I don’t prime it and most days I don’t set it either. In my experience the fewer layers, particularly with powder, the less melted my face looks an hour later.

Hot, humid, sunny, South Florida here. I spend a lot of time outdoors with my horses so always wear sunscreen (Neutrogena SPF 100). For a tint of ‘color’ my go to is Shiseido Urban Environment Tinted UV Protector, shade Glow 2. It adds warm color, is oil free, matte finish and stays on! Sadly it’s discontinued although being sold on their site until they sellout. When not outdoors I like YSL Touché Glow B30 and Saie Slip Tint 3.

This summer is nothing like any other summers. We just had a string of hot days that broke records and I was loving it. Sandals, tank tops and shorts. My makeup was melting off my face when I had to go out, I went and picked up some EL Double Wear Light and it has stayed put throughout the rest of the heat wave and now the typical summer storms we get.

I have the same base routine all year long. Sunscreen (30+ SPF), then liquid foundation on my cheeks (to even out my redness), contour (stick or powder, just to emphasize my natural shadows), then a setting spray with SPF, and finally, mattifying setting powder just on my nasolabial folds. The result is very natural, very minimal, very dewy, very polished, and very, very easy… which is important when it’s a daily thing. 🙂

My profile picture is what happens when I skip the mattifying setting powder on my nasolabial folds. 😉 I had run out!
