- Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Still waiting to receive some orders!
- Weekend plans: We’re having my mother-in-law, brother-in-law, and my immediate family all over for the 4th of July. My mom’s barbecuing at her house and bringing it to our house!
- If you had an extra hour every day, what would you spend it on?: I’d like to sleep more, LOL, but my body doesn’t really “let” me do so.

Recent Purchases: The BH Cosmetics Passion in Paris palette…. I really didn’t need another purple palette, but it’s so pretty and I’m not sorry, 😂
Rediscoveries: I had a lot of fun this week playing with my Kaleidos Astro-Pink palette and while the color scheme isn’t my favorite anymore, I really liked combining it with other things to mix it up.
Weekend plans: a small surprise party for my uncle, who was born on the 4th.
If you had an extra hour every day, what would you spend it on?: I think some yoga and meditation. By the time I get everything done that I need to do in a day I’m too beat to do anything but veg for a bit and go to sleep lol.
My uncle as well, long gone. Many people on my mum’s side were born on holidays or pseudo-holidays. My mother’s was the worst, April 1st.
That puppy face….oh my! Hubs is now making noises about maybe getting another dog in a year or two (once we’ve done some of the travelling we really want to do).
Recent Purchases: nothing this week but still waiting on my Temptalia palette which should be here today or Monday (had yesterday not been Canada Day, it would probably arrive today for sure); rediscoveries: not exactly summery but 2 eyeshadows – Shiseido Patina/GR707 Shimmering Eyeshadow (it’s a cream-to-powder sort of formula and such a lovely, sludgey colour) and MAC’s Spellbinder shadow (that gimmick-y, “magnetic” one) in Mysterious Influence. Like I say, not exactly summery (both are murky, more autumnal shades) but since school’s out and I’ve only myself to please, I’m enjoying rediscovering them.
Weekend plans: trying to get back into a daily (rather than twice weekly at best) exercise routine. Sew a summer dress (a very easy pattern from Megan Neilsen; I got some cheap but still okay looking fabric to try it out and if it’s a winner, I’ll use some of my nicer fabrics to make a few more).
An extra hour per day – also probably sleep though I find it hard to stay asleep to get the amount of sleep I think I really need.
That was originally what we were thinking – wait until we did some traveling, but with the pandemic, well… seemed like we wouldn’t be doing any of that any time soon, LOL.
We’re both nominally retired now and were really hoping to do some special travel to mark our 40th anniversary (in 2020 – that fizzled) so we’re sort of hoping 2022 might be the year but I also think I’d be wise at least to explore knee replacement BEFORE we go either to Norway or New Zealand (2 places I really want to visit). My knee has got so bad that even walking on grass…a park or any slightly uneven surface, even if it’s a soft one – is just really bad. So a lot of the natural beauty of both those countries would be almost impossible for me to visit. And because of the pandemic, thousands of surgeries have been postponed/pushed back so who knows if we’ll even get to visit some of the places we’d like to see. Heck, even sightseeing in Quebec City will be more limited than the last time we were there because as time goes on, my knee get worse, so…. who knows when we’ll be able to do any travelling, substantial or not.
Definitely think getting your knee to feel better (surgery or PT) would be ideal! I know we want to make sure we take time to travel in our 40s/50s in hopes of having the stamina/ability to really explore by foot as much (or as little) as we may want to do. It’s hard to appreciate everything if you’re in constant pain!
Our guess was the same – maybe 2022, maybe beyond. We figured that if we did travel, we’d probably start with more domestic travel anyway, so waiting 3-4 years for a doggo? No way, lol!
Oh – I meant to add that about 15 minutes ago, I got an email telling me that my Temptalia palette is “out for delivery”. I am SO excited!
Well, it’s a shame that smelling salts have gone out of vogue because DH could have used them to revive me. GUESS – just GUESS – what finally is here. I swooned, just seeing the stunning packaging and then hit the floor outright (okay, I’m exaggerating and being a bit melodramatic but…well…) when I opened the palette. But, really, it IS breathtaking! I just finished a mini-workout and I’m going to shower, wash my face and then go WILD with this beauty. As impatient as I was to have it, it certainly looks like ever bit of it was worth the wait. In all the reviews you’ve done for this palette, for some reason I never noticed October Odyssey until now (not the name and not the shadow) but I was born in October so it feels almost like it’s “my” special colour. This just may have also opened the Sydney Grace floodgates for me – there are a few shadows I’d like to order from them and I probably will at some point soon.
Can’t wait to hear your thoughts once you get to play with them, Mariella! 🙂
The best things happen in October!
Okay – here’s the CRAZY thing. I couldn’t find a shade that looked like the October Odyssey in “my” palette. I checked back and I did, indeed, order the LIGHT version but the sticker on the bottom says OTH DARK!!! But to be perfectly honest, I much prefer the October Odyssey in this DARK palette over the more pinky/mauve one in the LIGHT palette. So kind of a very happy accident.
I’m glad you’re happy with the end result, but if you aren’t, please feel free to reach out to shaley@sydneygraceco.com who will get it sorted and send out the correct versions!
Christine, I’m actually thrilled – it’s like SG and Temptalia knew what was best for me. But I wonder if other people have encountered the same sorts of mixups (maybe with not as happy a result) because the only thing that shows it’s “Dark” is a tiny white sticker on the palette itself (no indicator at all on the sleeve). But honestly – I’m wearing October Odyssey now, in the crease/outer corner with Phoenix Awakens (oh, this is so gorgeous and it’s a shade that often doesn’t flatter me but not your iteration) on the inner and outer mobile lid and Magellan’s Light in the middle. I’m actually going to take a nap but I couldn’t resist putting on some of these shadows. Earthbound and Flying High just take my breath away they are so beautiful and the deep blue shadow – oh, so pretty (and blue is supposed to be really flattering on brown eyes so I’m taking it for an outing tomorrow, for sure).
Definitely a few mixups along the way! I feel like I’m hearing about them more than I’d like to see… but then realize… well, duh, my readers and an online only launch, lol!
So happy to hear that the first application is working nicely!!
Speaking of ‘magnetic’ e/s, it may actually BE magnetic. I was using the magnet rod that Christine advocated on the Mini Lilas, and one of the shimmer shades (the powder itself) was stuck to the magnet and resisted budging. When I finally got the residue off, I hovered the tip above the palette, and up jumped some e/s, just like iron filings. It was a bit unnerving.
I think getting your knee ‘done’ is worthwhile before you travel too Mariella. It sounds so painful to me and it would impact on your exercise and fitness routines too.
Glad to hear that your palette arrive safe and sound – even if it was the ‘dark’ one.
Recent purchases: more of the Fenty slip shine lipsticks. The pandemic year has seen me move from lipsticks to tinted lip balms, something I never would have expected. These are my favorite so far.
Recent Purchases:
My Jaclyn package arrived, Very happy with it all!
I got the Rouge Romance Lip Cushions in Last First Kiss and One And Only.
Very happy with the lippies, they have a doe-foot applicator mousse-like texture and a sort of dry powdery finish that isn’t drying. Both can be built up to impressive intensity, or blotted.
I also received the Mood Light Luminous Rouge Blush in Love Poem. It’s an intense loose powder blush with a gorgeous warm pink hue.
Weekend Plans:
It’s basically a long weekend for us, since Canada Day was yesterday so lots of walks to the beach. I’m making Dulce de Leche ice cream with pecans, last weekend I made raspberry sorbet, which was fantastic.
We’ve had gathering bans and indoor public mask wearing lifted in our province as of yesterday; I’m not ready to give up the mask yet, it’s too early IMO. Both my hubby and I are getting our second vaccines next week, which will be relief!
An extra hour a day:
I’d spend more time training my dogs, natch. 🙂
Purchases/Rediscoveries: Nothing makeup wise. The euro shams for the new duvet set I bought went to clearance and arrived last week.
Weekend Plans: Getting my second vaccine on Sunday. The heat dome in the Pacific NW is starting to break up where I am. We were lucky to only get to 37C and humidity in the low 40s. Not as horrible as BC or Washington or Oregon. Otherwise, errands and taking it easy.
An extra hour? Most likely either sleep or something me-related, like listening to a new album or getting my nails done, etc.
Thank goodness for all of those who are sweltering under the heat dome and the high temperatures that it is finally dispersing for you all. I hate the heat with a passion.
Canada doesn’t get this type of heat in summer. The BC Interior area is starting to with places like Osoyoos and Kelowna/Kamloops/Okanagan getting close to 40C. Some places in Washington State and Oregon do get a few hotter days than us. Not all homes have air conditioning. The scary part was the lightning firestorm caused by the heat and fires and that the village that set the 49.6C temp record burned down the next day because of a wildfire. Summer has just started.
Recent Purchases: I had quite a few orders come in while we were away!
*The three Sydney Grace x Temptalia Palettes and the Dearest Reader Single; Supergoop Mineral Sheerscreen SPF 30 Sunscreen Lotion; The Glam Supply Berries, Oh My Palette; Fenty Killawatt Foil Freestyle Highlighter-Mimosa Sunrise/ Sangria Sunset (sale section).
*Juvia’s Place (sale) — Nubian Pencil Eyeliners in Royal and Mignight Blue, The Nude Velvety Matte Lipstick in #2020, The Reds and Berries Velvety Matte Lipstick in Frenemy, Bronzed Duo Bronzer in Light, and Bronzed Rustic Eyeshadow Palette.
*Nordstrom Rack — Laura Gellar Color Luster Lipgloss Hi-Def Top Coat in Violet Quartz, NEST Cocoa Woods Eau de Parfum Rollerball,
MODA Bold Artistry Eye Makeup Brush Set, Sun Bum 3-in-1 Leave-In Spray, Lime Crime Hi-Lite 3-Color Highlighter Palettes in Angels and Mermaids, and MAC Bronzing 2020 Foiled Shadow in Sunphoria.
Weekend plans: Not much. Hubby is recovering from having fluid removed from his knee, and he’s still a bit sore. Maybe we’ll go out to lunch, now that Oregon has opened back up. For the 4th, hubby’s going to barbecue smoked pork ribs and we’ll just stay home. It will be a rare hot and sunny 4th of July for our area.
If you had an extra hour every day, what would you spend it on? Sleep
Winston is so precious, I love his little puppy face!
Recent purchases: Little and Grim launched their Pride scents last Fri, and I ordered a bunch and they arrived today! I got like 5 or 6 scent oils for my spouse and I to share (all the scents are gender-neutral by design and we don’t believe scents have gender anyway, so we always smell them and wear whichever ones we like, some we share and some we claim for our own), more hand lotion for me, and an agender pride flag soap for Chris. We both smell really good!
Also on Tues I got my hair cut for the first time in FOREVER and I bought some pro shampoo and some styling sprays so I can do more with my hair.
Rediscovery: I grabbed my mini Ruby Bonbon lipstick from Bite to wear for an online job interview and it was sooo cute on me. With my new haircut and my pink lips and Lunar Illumination on my eyes I felt so pretty and feminine!
Weekend plans: Going to stick close to home because Daisy is scared of fireworks and people seem to set them off all weekend. Probably do some yardwork, read a lot, and eat out tomorrow.
If I had an extra hour in the day… I’d love an extra hour in the morning before work to do my dance practice. If I get the job I interviewed for, I should actually be able to start a little later because it will be based in my own time zone, so I may actually be able to practice in the morning again!
My, how is Winston growing! He looks so gorgeous sitting and wandering around. What a joy he must be.
Recent Purchases: Nada – still waiting for the On the Horizon Light palette to arrive.
Rediscoveries: Just rotating through my palettes – Lorac Noir I have used quite a bit this week.
I popped on CP’s Liquid Courage the other day and found to my dismay that it turns a pink colour on me. Darn!
Weekend Plans: My son and his family have gone away to Ballart’s Soverign Hill for the weekend and I am taking the opportunity to give the house a thorough vacuum. It is desperate!
Bad news for our washing machine – the motor has had the gong, so we ordered (promptly) a new one, but it doesn’t arrive until the 13th of July. So it’s back to the laundromat we go…..
On Sunday it will be ironing and folding. Not a lot of fun this weekend.
If I had an extra hour in the day….I would spend it reading, but probably doing housework (unfortunately).
Baby Winston to the rescue for cuteness overload much needed 💙
Purchases/rediscoveries: Took advantage of the Ulta liter sale and bought the “biggie” of Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Lavender Mint conditioner. It just arrived. Sephora; YSL Rouge Vermilion Pur Satin lipstick and Inkey List Retinol 1%.
Weekend Plans: Clean, sleep (or at least I hope I do!), Eat, Clean, sleep, eat, repeat.
There are some very bad things, without going into the gory details, that are going wrong with this place I moved into way back on the first day of pandemic lockdown. Things were wonderful, at first. Now? Pure living hell on Earth, stuff of my worst nightmares. All I can do is pray with all my heart that my back doesn’t go out or that I croak from overdoing it. Last night I didn’t sleep at all. And I literally threw everything at my insomnia! I tend to overthink, to overfeel, and then cannot sleep. It’s a horrible reality, so I totally understand what you’re saying, Christine. Hope and pray that we both get some extra nourishing zzz’s this weekend. 😴
If you had an extra hour each day, what would you use it on? Mindful decompressing so that I could get truly healing, refreshing sleep every night. At 62 y.o., this insomnia issue that I’ve suffered from since early childhood needs to STOP before it gets me. As in, 6 ft. under or in a nursing home.
Recent purchases/rediscoveries: Just waiting for my Beauty Bay and Colourpop orders to arrive and playing with the Sigma Ambiance eyeshadow & Glowkissed highlighter palettes I got last month. Oh and the KimChi Thailor blush duos, which are super adorable!
Weekend plans: Brunch with a friend who is on vacation, then we’re walking a 5km lake circuit and watching the new Lin Manuel Miranda movie, babysitting my 5 and 3 yr old niece and nephew on Saturday night which involves making pizza from scratch (always fun but at least they eat their dinner because I let them choose and apply their own toppings, though I have learned that an adult needs to supervise the cheese, ha!) and then Sunday will be a very lazy day involving watching motorsport and probably having a few gin cocktails late afternoon.
Extra hour: Probably nothing very productive, I have quite a lot of free time to relax (and drink wine, LOL) but if I could nap for an hour every afternoon after lunch, I probably would. I do when I go on holiday!
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: I received the Trendmood Nabla products! Will be my first time trying Nabla!
Weekend plans: Wean off pain medications following my surgery.
If you had an extra hour every day, what would you spend it on?: I’d devote it to bodily self-care, like a longer stretching routine, maybe swimming some days, or taking a bath rather than showering. If it was one hour more with the same amount of energy I have now then it would probably just be a longer getting ready for bed/getting to sleep routine.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Nothing new, but I might take advantage of some 4th of July sales.
Weekend plans: Lots of hiking! I might also scope some newly re-opened museums nearby to visit.
If you had an extra hour every day, what would you spend it on?: I’d certainly sleep more, sleep is always sacrificed in my schedule unfortunately.
Recent Purchases: Dipping my toe into Sydney Grace with the SG X Temptalia On The Horizon Light palette and singles Dear Reader, Winter Wonder and Moon Landing. When I unboxed the palette, I let out an audible gasp at the stunning artwork and colours in the palette. You truly created a masterpiece, Christine! Well done! I grabbed the singles for a quick purple-y eye look and can’t wait to start using the palette this weekend. Shipping was fast, too!
Also purchased the Wayne Goss Waterproof Mascara.
Weekend Plans: My spouse and I are going out tonight with a friend to an outdoor patio on a lake where tables are reserved and distanced. Most of the weekend, though, is devoted to cleaning up: removing rotted wood borders in the backyard gardens, clearing out the garage of items stored by the previous owner, dropping off accumulated yard waste, and defining Plan B of our overgrown garden landscaping project when Plan A came back considerably more expensive than we expected.
Extra hour in the day: I would use it to exercise.
Thank you so much, Tracey! 🙂
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Nothing other than the Temptalia x Sydney Grace palettes and single, for rediscoveries my Clionadh single in “Ripple”
Weekend plans: We’re celebrating my uncle’s birthday with some BBQ, this weekend is also the first Saturday I’ll be streaming on Twitch!
If you had an extra hour every day, what would you spend it on?: Now that I’m working close to full time, I would use that extra hour towards my hobbies. It’s been harder to get time or energy to do anything other than working or sleeping
