What complexion product wasn't worth the splurge?

Sisley Tenseur Moisturizing Gel, which was a popular primer at some point in the online community. It’s stupid expensive–$200–and while it worked well, I didn’t personally derive $200 value from it!

It didn’t break me out or anything but after all the hype that was all over the place on this product, it did absolutely nothing for me, I finished it but I did so grudgingly and vowed to never buy something that was hyped up so much, what a let down!

Anything Charlotte Tilbury, not just limited to complexion.
Charlotte Tilbury was one of those brands I really wanted to try and like, but which simply don’t work for me. Most of them were total flops for me, and even those which weren’t bad were actually disappointing. I actually tried the pressed setting powder twice, because I couldn’t understand why so many people like it, but not me.

And talking about splurges, I disliked the packaging for the price. It’s not sturdy and the plastic looks cheap; and while the rose golden finish looks good in photos, in real life it looks tacky and contributes to that cheap look feel.

The only thing I’ve liked from her line is her mascara, I haven’t dared to buy an eyeshadow palette, I don’t need to invest in something that’s going to let me down. What looks good on her models applied by a makeup artist under the perfect lighting isn’t necessarily going to look that way on me!

Charlotte Tilbury definitely has her own application techniques that might play a role. And she definitely loves more dewy looks, compared to me. 😅 You make a good point that her makeup could be just more targeted to makeup artists and fashion shows, not regular users like me.

But I can appreciate when a product is good quality, even if it’s not for my skin.

Pat McGrath Labs Sublime Perfection Foundation is lovely but I have used and enjoyed many other foundations that cost a lot less than $68. And right now I am not sure that Tatcha Liquid Sllk Canvas at $52 is much better than less expensive primers I have used but I may appreciate it more when hot humid weather comes around.

I feel the same about the PMG foundation! I really like it, it’s my everyday foundation right now, but I know I have other foundations that I can get equally great performance out of for half the price.

I made a comment above about the Tatcha Silk Canvas Primer, it was a huge disappointment to me, I hope it works for you, after all the wonderful reviews about it, it would be nice if it works on someone! I’ve never been in any humidity with it so maybe that’s where it shines.

For me it was Guerlain L’Or 24K Gold Radiance Primer, it didn’t do anything spectacular and for $85 CAD I expected a little more, and there was so much left at the bottom of the bottle that you could not get out, it was infuriating as well.

Hourglass Veil mineral primer, it was nice but not any better than similar primers for half the price.

Any foundation I’ve ever bought, tbh. A few years back I finally gave up on wearing foundation because I could never find one that didn’t make my skin look flaky/textured. I just use Babo Botanicals tinted sunscreen every day, and if I’m doing makeup I’ll add some blurring primer and in the summer a dusting of setting powder.
