Do you prefer new brands to launch select products or a full line?
I don’t need a full range of products (like foundation to blush to lipstick), but it’s nice when a new brand has a few products to start with.

I do prefer more than 1 product, as in eyeshadow and lipstick or blush and lipstick gloss etc., but I don’t care if it’s a full line or not. It’s not like I can afford to purchase an entire line of makeup anyway! More than 1 product makes it more likely that I’ll find something I’m interested in, though.
I feel like it depends on what the brand’s aim is. If the brand wants to make, say, really good lipstick, then I would rather see them make that really good lipstick and only that lipstick, rather than deciding they need to branch out into other things like foundation or concealer I’M TALKING ABOUT BITE, OKAY?
Still mad about that.
Anyway, if a brand’s end goal is to offer a complete line, I definitely understand that it might be too expensive for them to do everything at once, but it does seem like it would be nice if their initial launch contained at least 3-4 different kinds of products, such as an eye palette or liners, a lipstick or gloss, a blush or highlight, and a concealer or foundation, so you can kind of get an idea of what they’re going for.
A few things properly done. It’s obvious when a brand carries products from every conceivable category, because they simply can’t do them all well. Concentrate your efforts on what you can nail and leave the rest behind.
Preferably a full line or at least a more fleshed out selection of a more limited line. This is because I love plenty of variety in the shades offered, even if all it is is a foundation, ie; Fenty (when they first came out) or a lipstick line ie; Lisa Eldridge.
Whatever a brand chooses to launch with I expect it to be done well. I don’t care if they do a full range or one product, just do it well. And I feel very strongly that if you can’t do something well, maybe because of cost, then just dont do it. I’m sorry if what you want to do is really well formulated complexion products, if you can’t afford to launch with an appropriate shade range then you shouldn’t launch at all.
I just don’t care. As long as they are launching good quality products, brands should launch as many products and variations as they can afford to do and they want to do. Brands should have the liberty of choosing their own paths and customers, if they want to grow fast or slow.
Like most of the readers above, I would like to see a new brand launch with a few products – say some lipsticks, some blushes and an eye palette to give its customers an idea of the quality of their products. It’s important for the company to have time to set up their production schedules, IT systems, management protocols, workplace systems etc. to cater for increased sales and delivery timelines.
I would much rather a brand focus on something really good and do it exceptionally well – like SG with their eyeshadows, than try and do everything.
Right now there’s a whole new set of rules.
Fashion companies that never did “lounge wear” except as a slight nod, are going full lounge.
I think companies that focus on one product, like BITE did (very well I might add) realize that with masks, they need to diversify. If you don’t swim you sink, right?
The issue is, they’re only associated with one (well several lip) products.
So, many companies are throwing ideas out there to see what sticks, and I get it, even if it’s a fail, they’re at least trying.
A new company needs to have a concept, and one product is generally not enough, but the line needs to be cohesive.
Both Rare Beauty and Fenty did it well, at least to start.
I don’t particularly care either way but whatever they do I’d like to to be cohesive. If it’s a capsule, or they start out with just one or two categories of products I’m fine with it. But if it’s some random kludged together collection of stuff then I’m less likely to take them seriously.
