How do you organize your complexion/base products?

This is one category of products that has some of the weakest organization in my stash! I keep some of my favorites in my vanity drawer, while the formulas I currently reach for the most are on top of the vanity. I keep my shades in various formulas in open bins on a near-by storage unit, but I find I rarely go back to those (I keep to what’s on/in my vanity, even though the others are five feet away).

Please keep discussion on-topic, and if you have general feedback, a product review request, an off-topic question, or need technical support, please contact us!

Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. Comments alerting us to typos or small errors in the post are appreciated (!) but will typically be removed after errors are fixed (unless a response is needed).

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

My routine includes primer, color corrector, foundation, concealer and powder. Everything is close at hand in an organizer on top of my vanity (including brushes and sponges) or at the front of a vanity drawer except that foundations awaiting rotation are further back in the vanity drawer. I am really working to simplify this category and hope to find a foundation with better coverage and neutralizing properties so that I can eliminate the color corrector.

I keep my most used foundations on a shelf in my bathroom cabinet to the right of my sink, and my REALLY most used ones (IT CC Cream, Australian Gold tinted face sunscreen) in a lower cabinet in my bathroom to the left of my sink. Some primers and liquid highlight-y products are in that same cabinet, except for Dior’s Airflash primer, which is in the right side cabinet along with a few other primers (chaotic as it sounds, I pretty much know where everything is…most of the time).

When we renovated and I got my “perfect” vanity, I had some shallow stand up cabinets built on top of the vanity against the wall. They have frosted glass panel inserts to cut up all the “white” of the cabinetry/countertops.
They have glass shelves inside, which I can adjust.
I keep my complexion products there, where I can see them, closer to eye level, without having to rummage or bend.
I reorganized it all last week.
One cabinet has (left to right): sponges, primers, liquid/cream highlighters, concealers, foundations all on the top shelf.
Lower shelves contain powder foundations, powders as well as my skin care…
The entire other cabinet is makeup brushes. 🙂

All my makeup sits in the middle top drawer of my dresser in the bedroom. It’s so easy, since I just have one foundation, concealer and powder.
My primer sits in the bathroom, since it has SPF and usually I apply it as a step of my morning skincare routine (on top of my SPF lotion).

I have only one complexion primer – Nude by Nature’s Airbrush primer and one foundation – L’Oreal’s True Match foundation – so organisation of them is not a tricky one for me. Both live on my bathroom cabinet in my ensuite. My setting powder and blush live in my ‘everyday’ makeup bag, which contains only blushes, mascaras and eye brow pencil.

Same as the rest of my makeup. I have drawers, similar to Alex drawers but much less pricey. There’s one for foundation, one for primer, one for concealer, one for brows etc. Then right on my vanity is a little basket with all the stuff I’m currently using.
