Does your makeup reflect your mood?
Sometimes! I think if I’m feeling lower energy or am finding it harder to self-motivate, I am actually more likely to reach for a palette that I really love to wear for photos vs. something new (I’ll just remove and redo it with something new after the photos).
Sort of….but it can also really boost my mood. Where I live, our province is on almost total lockdown and has been since Xmas. Schools are closed and teaching/learning has gone to “online”. Stores are closed, malls are closed, movie theatres and live theatres, spas, salons, gyms – pretty much everything except grocery stores and larger stores that sell groceries (like Walmart and Costco), drug stores, etc. are closed so it makes for a blue mood sort of time (you can’t really go anywhere or do much of anything). But getting dressed and putting on a bit of “slap” can really make me feel better about things. I even put on eye makeup and lipstick for my FaceTime workouts with my trainer! And even just thinking about my makeup – recent purchases, the 2 newer Dior 5-pans I got when department stores were briefly open, some bath and shower things – puts me in a happier mood.
Not usually… as in I don’t pick make up to match my mood, but I do find if I’m having an off day, I feel off applying my make up.
I have a chronic illness, and on days I feel like shit, I actually wear more makeup. Shimmers and bright colors. I want to feel on the outside how I wished I felt on the inside
Just the way my mood may affect the clothing I wear on a certain day so will likely be my makeup! Especially concerning either the colors I choose or how easy peasy (or conversely, how involved and intricate) the makeup I pick out may be. My mood does dictate a lot!
That’s kind of a funny question since, in an effort to work my way through my ridiculously large collection of eye shadow palettes, I tend to do each eye differently (although I try to stay within the same color story), but they don’t match. Then again, that may explain my mood swings!
Different color story eyes should be more normalized. In the end, people wear asymmetric clothing or different shoelaces on each foot, why would asymmetric makeup be an issue? 😁
I often try to “act as if” so if I am not in a good mood, I deliberately apply makeup that is brighter and more cheerful. In that sense, it does not reflect my mood although my mood influences my choices.
Somehow… but not like in my “mood” as in happy or sad or confident. It’s more like… sometimes I am in a mood for something quick and simple, sometimes I am in a mood for a smokey eye, sometimes I am in a mood for a bold lip, for no specific reason.
And it’s independent on my general mood… Sometimes I am down and feel like doing the most makeup, just to feel better, sometimes I am down and feel like makeup is the last thing I want.
Yes to all of the above.
If “mood” includes “ability to function,” then yes, absolutely. 😂
Hahaha
Sometimes – when I am feeling very happy, I tend to do brighter or glossier eye looks. But mostly I match my eyeshadows to what I am wearing.
Definitely! I wear more and brighter makeup when I’m happier, for sure. If I’m stressed from being busy, I default to easy rosy neutral looks. If I’m a depressed, stressed out mess, my makeup invariably turns out crappy, though not by intent. I just can’t figure out what to do with myself, and I get indecisive.
Yes makeup can make you feel powerful, sexy, fresh or just plain beautiful and it just depends on how you apply it.
Yes, it can! I actually go makeup-free most days now after I’ve had a series of reactions to it. So I reach for it sparingly these days and usually for two reasons: the first is to impress someone even if that “someone” is just myself (my “game face”) and the second is for experimentation/play (“play” face).
Makeup is an instant mood booster bc I tend to look tired without makeup due to dark eye circles. If I’m in the mood to impress then I reach for products I’m confident will work well together and are flattering. I call this my “game face.” If I’m in the mood to play/experiment around, then I usually skip any base makeup so I have less to wash off and just play off a few features.
Gorgeous ,
You comment was spot on about picking a pallet that makes you feel good! If I even pick one up. (LOL).
Regarding. the new releases this week!
Awful, not creative plus I am so over dark berry or red eyes! Let’s, have some pallets that have smooth as glass finis h with neautals and color! Just, one color!
SO DONE!!
Having medical treatments every 8 weeks for life, I always wonder when I am “off” did my make up change my mood or did my mood change my makeup…. Sometimes I try to push through and just hope the makeup can cheer me up other times, I can’t make it look good even when I try…. Not sure if this makes sense. So I guess the answer is Yes in some form!
Ditto!!! Hadn’t read your comment before mine, but very similar feelings. May the Holy Spirit lift you through those treatments as well.
Thank You so much! With out HIM I am nothing! 🙂
Well mostly. That’s to say if I’m feeling sad or down, I will use my makeup to pick me up, so then it doesn’t really express my mood, but encourages me to change it.
