Are you more interested in a product if it's limited edition?

I don’t know if I’d say legitimately MORE interested, but if it is limited edition, then I do feel more urgency to review faster vs. waiting to purchase when it’ll fit in my schedule better.

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

Only marginally – as Christine said, there can be this sense of “urgency” to get it before it’s gone – but for me, it’s always more about whether it’s a product that suits my colouring, my personal “idiom”, my likes and also how well it rates here at Temptalia. I think the last time I felt that sense of “urgency” (because it did tick all those boxes for me AND there is now no Chanel counter anywhere near where I live) was the Lumiere et Opulence quadra from about this time last year (when the world seemed SUCH a different place).

No. It’s all just marketing, trying to make us feel FOMO. Hopefully I’m smarter than that now. LE used to mean something was special, a lotta years ago, now it’s just hype and often the product is sub-par too.

Can I say both? I’m less interested in owing LTOs in case I really love something and can’t replace it (although there are so many products nowadays that I can probably find a dupe) and I despise the marketing ploys (sense of urgency, FOMO, etc), but it is interesting to read about and see pics of limited editions because often they foreshadow trends to come.

I’m actually less interested in limited edition products. I like to buy items I can repurchase afterwards if I really like them; also, although limited edition packaging does look nice (sometimes), I much prefer to keep my makeup collection aesthetics cohesive and classic.

I used to be (maybe LEs were overall better a few years ago). Now it just seems like a gimmick and a waste of energy. I don’t want to be manipulated into buying something. However if it were limited edition colors of a formula I already like (almost never the case) that would have my interest.

Meh, limited edition is done these days to induce FOMO. And almost anything is LE! I will buy if it is pretty and fits within my aesthetics, but I do wish companies worked on their core collections more and did limited editions maybe only on Holidays?

I’m rarely interested in L.E. makeup products but to be honest there have been plenty of unrelated things that were L.E. that I either had to have or wanted. Makeup goes bad and I don’t consider myself a collector although packaging and nostalgia occasionally causes me to lose my mind and want to buy it. Side note: Still bummed out about Melt’s Beetlejuice collection even though Christine made me feel MUCH better about not having the opportunity to get anything on my list.

Christine and everyone here, Thank you forever for always providing other options / dupes and advice. <3

Typically, yes.

If it is just a new staple to the permanent line then I will most likely wait to purchase and end up talking myself out of it or will forget about it, because at this point it would be just a want not a need.

For me, limited edition tends to have better or more pizazz packaging and quality has been comparable to their permanent line (PMG, MAC). Still a want and not a need, though! I become more interested because it wouldn’t be around (cue fomo 🙄) in 6 months.

Nope! I don’t care if it is LE or not. Because I never use up a product, I don’t really care if I’ll be able to repurchase it in the future. I also don’t care if I miss out on the latest one time wonder because there are always new and equally wonderful products coming down the line. There are some beautiful LE products and I have purchased my fair share, but the fact that they are LE has never influenced me.

This is a loaded question! I used to get totally sucked in to the point of ridiculousness. Now I’m older and wiser?? If it is something that I am looking for and it is LE I will make a point of purchasing it before it sells out, if it sells out oh well something else will be out next week!
