Has your skincare routine changed as a result of the pandemic?

It has not! Since I’m home most of the time, I only have to wear a mask for less than an hour or two a week (and often broken up into 5-10 minute periods!).

There were some amazing sales when brands panicked about closed shops, so I splurged on some brands I don’t normally get due to price – Sisley, Chantecaille, Molton Brown – and I’m not sure I can go back on a few items now that i’ve seen the other side! Guerlain compacts were a game changer for my makeup and I own more Pat McGrath eye shadow than I’ll need in a lifetime. Definitely no more eye shadow buys!

I have finally been reapplying sunscreen midday (as we all should be doing!), since my apartment gets a lot of sun. I have been trying out Fenty Skin moisturizer for this purpose, since it comes with SPF. I like it so far for reapplication!

I’ve also had some acne breakouts, since I have been running and walking outdoors occasionally with my mask on (versus going to the gym). I used a Clearasil face wash with salicylic acid a couple of times per week until my breakout cleared, and I use Thayer’s Facial Mist (it has witch hazel, rose water, and aloe vera) here and there now.

Yep. I leave the house a LOT less, so there will be days in a row where I don’t have to apply sunscreen. As a result my skin is more clear and hydrated than it would be otherwise. I’m also leaving on masks for hours in the morning versus a quick ten or fifteen minute application. I can top up any moisture levels when my skin starts feeling tight (it’s extremely dry). My skin looks amazing as a result.

On the flipside, any time spent with a mask on does bring breakouts around my mouth.

My skincare routine is pretty much the same, I don’t feel the need to change anything around. I’m working from home and I only need to wear masks when grocery shopping or intermittently when I’m out walking or hiking (if things get slightly crowded); I haven’t experienced any issues with my skin from wearing a mask (actually, with the cold weather I prefer keeping my mask on when running).

Yes, because wearing mask at work (and every time I’m leaving home) has caused a lot of issues I had never experiences. From acne under the mask paired with extremely dryiness. I was forced to change everything into my beauty routine (that was very sole, dince I used to have a very good skin) and introduce many other product I never used before, investing much more money… But miracle hasn’t happened yet. I think I’ve to start to come at pacts with the mirror about the fact that my once perfect skin now it is a disaster ☹️

My skin has gotten a little crazy since the start of the pandemic. Wearing a mask almost daily is causing more patches of acne, blackheads and dry skin. So my skincare routine has changed since I’ve been experimenting with more skincare, like adding a Vitamin C product, using more acne medications and wearing more sunscreen due to more frequent walks.

Yes! I’ve recently had some relentless acne so I added Differin, Paula’s Choice Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5 %, and Aveeno Calm + Restore Oat Gel Moisturizer. I’m also using plain Vaseline a lot more with my eczema and chapped lips. Consistent use seems to help things.

Not much, because I work from home. I haven’t had to do anything differently for my facial skin. I’m using hand lotion even more than usual for this time of year, as my dry body skin and eczema are aggravated by hand washing and sanitizer usage. My lips are also drier and chapping more easily — I’m not sure if that’s from mask wearing or just aging — so I’m exfoliating a little more often and being religious about lip balm.

My skincare routine has only changed in that I am always on the lookout for products that combat redness, and those that are more hydrating since that is my current concern because of the masks that I have to wear at work.

When the pandemic started, I stopped wearing makeup and within about 4 or 5 days my skin was SOOO dry and my lips parched and I realized a lot of my makeup choices included skincare benefits. So I really had to recommit and get more dedicated to the skincare regimen and products I already had (I am terrible at consistency with skincare!!) and I decide to pick up the Kosas foundation oil for a light look for Zoom that also gives me some moisture instead of going all out with my regular foundation because my favorite foundations are all fairly full coverage formulas. I also am inside all the time, all day and I really leaned into a retinol and hopefully when we can come out of this I will look refreshed!

Mine has because I’m home. The combination of my latest birthday making me decide I need a proper skincare routine, working from home freeing up a lot of my time to both indulge in skincare and watch a lot of skincare-related media on youtube, and just wanting to have something that feels good and takes care of me has really made me step up my skincare routine. I did a lot of research the first few months I was home and built myself a pretty comprehensive routine – whereas previously my routine was pretty much just wash my face in the shower with whatever face wash sounded good from my co-op and was on sale, put on a basic moisturizer, and rely on my IT Cosmetics CC cream for sunscreen and then use a Neutrogena wipe at night. In fact this week I ordered from both Sephora and Ulta and it’s the first time I’ve had orders not contain any makeup products and be comprised only of skincare.

Other than adding in an extra few facial masks during the week, not really. My aesthetician has moved 3 times and her hours are constantly changing now so I am more proactive/preventive on my end, which *feigns despair* means more home spa days, darnit.

Because I realize that masks can erode my foundation and powder face products, I try to make a greater effort to try to keep my skin in better shape as I know a bit more of it peeks through. Also, I now have to tend to “maskne” like so many others. So I know I’ve been using my spot treatment for breakouts far more often than just before the pandemic hit. I also take better care of my lips now, too, because dry-down liquid matte lipsticks.

I jumped into Korean skin care. I was desperate because stress and mask had left my skin in really bad condition. Since using Korean skincare my skin has a clarity it never had. I understand now what the term “glass skin” means!
