Do you find that you use multi-tasking makeup products in multiple ways?
Not usually! If something could be used in the same area in different ways–like using a cream eye product as an eyeliner and an eyeshadow–yes, but if it’s for eyes and lips or cheeks and lips, I usually find it performs well for one but is just so-so for the other (or even poor).
Nope – I don’t tend to purchase “multi tasking” products (I do have a Tata Harper – I think – cheek and lip product sample that’s nice but I generally forget all about it). I have enough of a struggle using “single tasking” products for one intended purpose, so that’s enough of a challenge for me.
So I find various uses for products not necessarily designed to be multitaskers. I have used bronzers as eye shadows (ND Tan is amazing), fat smudger liners that are matte as contour sticks, eyeshadow as eyeliner or to fill in my brows, my face highlighter as a brow bone highlighter, eyeshadows as blush, and even eyeshadow patted over balmed lips for a nice muted lip.
My beloved NARS multi sticks, I really just use for cheeks.
I love the idea of multitaskers but have found they don’t work to my satisfaction.
If I stop to think about it, then I probably do? The only ones that jumps out at me are Marc Jacobs Dew Drops or MAC Strobe Cream, though. I used to use either one as a mixer with foundation for a dewy finish before Fenty Profilt’r Hydrating Longwear Foundation came along.
I’m a big fan of using concealer as foundation when traveling (which I don’t do these days), using a contour face powder in the crease or a bronzer all over the lid. But otherwise I don’t feel the need for multi-use formula, especially those cheeks and lips formulas.
I don’t buy multipurpose products because I have never found them to work well in multiple ways. Sometimes a product I like for one purpose works well for other purposes but to me, that’s a happy serendipity.
Creams, no. I have never used one that worked well everywhere it was supposed to. I rarely buy them any more, and if I do, it’s because I want them exclusively for a blush or whatever they work best as.
Powders, yes. I have many pigments that were described as able to be used on eyes, face, and lips and perform on all areas as promised. I find powders much more forgiving and versatile on me as a general rule.
I use products not marketed as multitaskers in a variety of ways.
However, my opinion on multitaskers is very similar to the post – things that try to be a jack of all trades end up being a master of none. Especially the lip/cheek products – if they’re emollient enough to be comfortable on the lips they are usually too slick for the cheeks, and if they are a decent formulation for blush that won’t move they are usually way too drying and uncomfortable on the lips.
Not usually, they usually don’t work as they say they will. Sometimes I will use my lipstick as blush when I’m out and feel I need a touch up. To simplify my routine I will sometimes use highlighters as a brow bone color, bronzer as an eye crease color or blush but that is about it.
No, I don’t multitask makeup products at all. I tend to find such products either work well in one area, but not the other. The idea of using a lipstick as a cheek blush just doesn’t gel with me. Besides, there are so many perfect products for different aspects of your face, at a reasonable price, that I think you don’t need to multitask at all.
It was apt you put the Bite multisticks as the photo for this post. I ADORE the packaging (I’m a sucker for a good magnetic closure) and find they work OK for blush and eyeshadow but are just too dry for lips. I’ve picked up an assortment at TJ Maxx/Marshalls and don’t reach for them often. I love NARS multisticks for blush but not for lips for the same reason. I’ve had more luck with non-stick formulations. Salt New York’s creme tint pro are true multi-tankers but are in pans, not bullets.
I have a few but I don’t normally use them that way because while I like monochrome looks I haven’t found a multi that I like how it looks everywhere.
