What is your makeup comfort zone like?
I love a lot of eyeshadow and playing with lip combos, so I’m happiest there. I can get into layering iridescent and duochrome highlighters over blush colors, too. I feel like everything except for one-and-done eye makeup. I love combining shades so much that wearing just one eyeshadow feels like a waste of a day for a look (but this is also because most days, I’m not choosing what to wear out of personal desire but rather what needs to be tested and reviewed next).
Neutrals are my thing for eyeshadows. I do have lots of brights (teals, greens, purples) but I used them sparingly in smaller areas rather than “all over”. To make it simple, it’s like the original Naked palette was invented with ME in mind. For lips, cool reds, plum and berry shades as well as somewhat subdued fuchsia shades. Not for me the nudes (I’m so pale that they make me look sick) or blue, black and green lipsticks because I just don’t get those – it’s not how I want to look. Warm toned blushes – browns, corals, orange – do not flatter me. So I guess overall I go for a neutral look that enhances my natural colouring.
My comfort zone is colorful eye shadow and whatever lipstick color I feel like, haha. I’ll wear just about any lip color as long as its undertones are cool or neutral. Colorful highlighters are fun, too! For eye shadow, I don’t like mattes, neutrals, or mustardy/olivey/burnt colors. I also don’t do one-and-done shadow looks; limiting myself to one color on my eyes would be a bummer!
I guess you could say false lashes, eyeliner, and bronzer are outside my comfort zone, but I don’t like how those look on me anyway.
I love the idea of one and done eyeshadow looks but the reality is that it feels unfinished unless I am layering on and blending several eyeshadows to create a dimensional look. I love a lot of eyeshadow paired with glass like looking skin.
Anything goes except lip color, contour or highlighter, unless highlighter includes something light reflecting in the outer and inner corners of my eyes. A lot of eye shadow, although never more than four colors. Some eye liner and as much mascara as I can get onto my lashes without them looking like they have beads on them.
I’m pretty comfortable wearing almost anything for eye makeup! Give me all the smokey, moody purples and plums. Also all the various neutrals, both warm and taupey cool. Teals, greens, mustard yellows, gold. Everything but too grayish of shades. Those really clash with my golden skintone and also make my eyes look flat murky green-blue.
As for cheeks and lips, again, almost anything goes. Even Bite Kale Lipstick on rare occasion! But it isn’t what I’d call my “comfort zone”, even though it looks great on me. Instead, I’m more inclined towards terracottas, plums, reds, “nudes”, brown, burgundy, MLBB shades, and purples for lips. During summer, corals, orange and warm fuchsias. And I LOVE me a good blingy highlighter, ie; MAC Double Gleam, ABH Amrezy, DoC Miramé.
A little bit more than “no makeup makeup” is basically my comfort zone: I’m all over the neutrals and rarely do more color than a statement lipstick. I like to bronze, contour and blush as I have a broad face. I do love eyeshadow looks but it’s been more rare for me as my eyelid skin is more sensitive.
I live for a bronze look. Luminous foundation and bronze with poppin wet highlighters! The hand I fan with! Anything with shimmer sheen gleam and I’m all in! I try to do one & done eye shadows but once I put a neutral in the crease I am compelled to place shimmer/glitter on my lid. Again I am usually going for one of my neutral bronze gold palettes but I will venture into pinks and purples with matching bronze/golds
My makeup comfort zone involves anywhere between 2-4 eyeshadows involving a variety of colour combinations – peach and teal, gold and olive, mint and teal etc, plus the full complement of neutral taupes, warm browns – all satins and soft shimmers.
I always wear a semi matte foundation with a mattish blush that works best on my complexion. For lipsticks, I am now favouring lighter shades of orange/red, russet, bronze, ginger over darker berry and red shades.
Bold colors on eyes and lips, although no green lips-purples and dark berries are the boldest I’ll go with my lip products. I’ve expanded my comfort zone a bit lately-I can finally apply liquid eyeliner!
A full but not too heavy face of makeup is my comfort zone. Medium-coverage matte or satin finish foundation, always set with powder, little to no concealer, light contouring and stronger highlighting, no bronzer, and blush placed high on the cheekbone and blended toward the hairline. I usually go for a mix of finishes on the eyes. I love colors, and almost any color goes for eye products, lip colors, and highlighters. I like to switch up my blushes, but usually stay within typical shades (coral, pinky brown, mauve, lavender/purple, etc.), or perhaps duochromes. I consider my makeup looks alternative — colorful, pin-up, dark/borderline goth, etc.
For me really going outside my comfort zone is a natural or “no makeup makeup” looks, or a perfected, heavily made-up and contoured “Kardashian” look. I appreciate how great these looks can work on others, but they don’t suit my face or dress style at all.
I was a neutrals girl for a long time, mostly because I was in an office setting up until the Stay-at-Home order was enacted, but now that I’m home I have become a lover of colorful eyeshadow and indie brands. I know a lot of people haven’t been wearing makeup because there’s no reason to, but I have had more fun with make up in the last 6 months than I ever have. I also love lipstick as well, and am trying to branch into some more unusual colors. My base makeup/blushes/highlighters tend to stay in the same neutral zone.
I love a full face (masks be damned). I’ve been using dots of MAC ProLongwear concealer here and there as foundation and Laura Mercier translucent setting powder. Not sure I’ll go back to using foundation post-mask. I like satin to matte skin with bronzer and blush, small spot of highlight at the tops of my cheeks, 3-4 eyeshadows, liner, mascara and lipstick. I fold a tissue and put it inside my mask to minimize makeup transfer.
These days, I’m pretty close to one and done on the eye.
Generally I’ll just sweep some of my bronzer in the crease.
If I’m feeling extra, I’ll tap some Armani liquid eyeshadow in Magnetic or ND’s Diamond Powder or swipe her Infra Nude on my lid.
The face is where I love to layer.
I’m using primarily cream products these days and I’m really comfortable with layering those.
I lay down contour and concealer then tap a cream highlight on cheekbones then bounce my foundation all over and blend it. Then I later more glow/highlight/refection (99% of the time CT Hollywood Flawless) where I want it.
Sometimes, I’ll bounce on some cream blush, generally, Fenty, Patrick Ta or Honest Beauty.
I always finish with mascara, and I’m getting a lot of wear out of my Fenty Slip Shines and CT’s Collagen Lip Bath.
All in, primer to lip, I can be done in 10 minutes.
My comfort zone is either full face with foundation and blush plus highlighter and the fully contoured eye shadow with four colors (these can range from neutrals to colorful but I rarely put eyeshadow anywhere except for on the lid itself up to the brow) or the “no makeup” makeup look with just brow pencil, mascara, thin eyeliner/tightlined/no eyeliner and tinted moisturizer. Most days when I am out wearing a mask, I try to do something special for playing up the eyes. Also, I feel naked if I do eye makeup and don’t do the full foundation face. And if I do foundation, I usually go for medium to full coverage so I need blush at least to keep it from looking too monotonous. I can do really any color on the eyeshadows but I gravitate to pinks, greys, browns, mauve, violet and purple hues or the warmer sunset colors with bronze, burnt orange, and metallic rusts to bring out the blue green in my eyes. I rarely will do a green theme with eyeshadow or coral or something I consider garish. I like a smoky toned down eye look the best but I have not gone out of the house with things I would like to boldly try at some point like the halo eye or dramatic cut crease or even the crazy graphic look like Ariana in the Rain on Me video.
My absolute comfort zone is a bold lip, with minimal eye shadow, a clean, sharp eyeliner with wing, defined brows and soft blush/bronzer and highlighter. I generally don’t do a lot of layering so when I want to mix things up or challenge myself that’s when I start playing with color and texture combinations.
