A Trio of Sunflower-Inspired Color Stories
A couple of days ago, the upcoming ColourPop Sunflower Collection leaked, but the images shown were confusing (one reason to at least wait for the brand’s official promo photos!) — almost showed a very light, mauve-toned story without lots the kind of yellows one would expect from something sunflower-inspired! The official promo photos show a more expected color story, though, but I had already put together this post in the spirit of all things sunflower (which has been one of my favorite flowers for years!).
The first story is inspired by the common sunflower varieties–that signature, bright yellow bloom with lighter and darker centers. The second story is inspired by the more orange and red, often bi-colored, blooms of orange-to-red or red-to-burgundy (like Helios Flame and Ring of Fire varieties). The third story is kind of like sunflower goes goth–so deeper, unusual sunflower varieties like Earthwalker, Moulin Rouge, and Chianti varieties.
As a gardener, I love that you’ve referenced actual varieties that you were inspired by, not just the generic giant yellow ones we all drew as kids. I’m slowly working on a redesign of my front garden (more yellow and blue, less pink, more meadow, less cottage garden) and you’ve made me realize the plan needs some sunflowers!
A redesign — how exciting!! 🙂 Good luck with the update. Never say no to a sunflower!
The 2nd palette you put together is very inspiring for me! I’m loving the rich red and berry tones being incorporated into the sunny golden theme.
I would also wear the more dark goth feeling 3rd palette, too! Makes me think of late fall/early winter back home in northern NJ.
I love all of these beautiful colour combinations you create – I keep a note of the ones I would wear and they are an inspiration to me, especially during these difficult times. I tend to use only three eyeshadows, as my hooded eyes can’t really do four. I like the Most Unusual Sunflower selection the best here. I would use the gold, a peach (as I don’t have pinky shade in my collection) and the chocolate brown shade.
