What eyeshadow finish do you wish brands would explore more?

SATIN. PEARL. Basically, something with a slight to moderate sheen that’s very smooth rather than intensely metallic or brightening.

Yes! My eyes are becoming more mature/ crepey. I love a satin eyeshadow to give some sheen but less emphasis on texture. I have a really nice neutral quad from bare minerals which is the perfect formula in my opinion. And the reason I purchased Viseart Paris Nudes was from your review saying many were satin!

It’s interesting that a photo of a Chanel quad is what you chose to illustrate this question because the finish on those Chanel Tisse quads is one I think of as perfect – is that Tisse Rivoli in the photo? So I’m with you on the satiny sheen type finish. Inglot’s Pearl finish is similar – it has the sort of pearly sheen that I do find brightening and, at my age, I need all the “brightening” I can get while avoiding “garish” (it can be a bit of a fine line). The finish on Chanel’s Empreinte du Desert is another perfect example.

Multicrome eyeshadows! Currently this finish is limited to few indie brands (that are very difficult to find outside the US). I would like to find this finish also in mainstream brands and in palettes (not limited to singles). This will renew my interest in palettes, since I’ve felt most of latest releases so repetitive…

A sheer matte…too many shadows these days are so crumbly and soft in the name of intense pigment, and it makes them difficult to use on a day to day basis. I love the colors in my Soft Glam palette but the formula leaves much to be desired.

For anyone past the age of 60 or 65, satin is the best formula as it doesn’t emphasize texture but I do want to say, regardless of my crepe, I still like to pack on those metallic, duo, multi chrome shades. I know they emphasize my texture but I am old and I don’t care what people think!!

I’m always for more duo- and multi- chromes coming into the market, and I’m glad to see this happening. Indie brands have been doing them for years, but they sell out quickly and don’t ship everywhere, so I’d be happy to see more mainstream brands who can afford to make larger quantities come out with them. This is starting to happen.

I’d also love to see more satins available. Although it seems when brands put them in palettes, I hear many reviewers complain and say they don’t use them. They want mattes for their creases and shimmers for their lids. Personally, I like that satins can give another layer of depth. Plus, they’re luminous enough to make a good brow highlight, yet work in my crease to give some light to counter-act how deep set they are, without over-emphasizing the partial hood I have going on. A very under-rated finish IMHO.

I love those too. They are still quite popular and easy to find among Japanese or Korean brands. Something like that will just get a bad rating in pigmentation for most people in the States. But they are so much more forgiving and suitable for everyday looks. I believe Tom Ford does make quite a bit of eyeshadow in this type of finishes.

The same as you Christine – I wish brands would step right away from eye damaging glitter and explore satin and pearly finishes. These finishes look much more sophisticated than glitter. I love a good foil or metallic finish – but just not every single shade. Again, some of the matte finishes we see would have been better in a soft satin finish instead.
Dior Jardin has a satin finish for its teal shade and that is lovely to use.

Put me on the satin/pearl/shimmer (but not glitter) band wagon. Such a versatile finish! And, if makeup distributors could combine that in palette with some honest to goodness cool tones in a rainbow of hues, that would be even better.
