How do you store double-ended brushes?
I just pick one side that I want to use and forget about the other so I can store it upright in a glass like I do all my other brushes!

I have no answer, but I just wanted to give you a huge thank you for posting this question because I really need some ideas!
Same! Thank you so much for addressing the topic!
Yes, same here too! I need some good ideas.
I have very few double ended brushes for this very reason… how do you store them properly? The one I do have is an IT cosmetics face brush, and I just kept the harder plastic covering for both sides so I can store upright without worrying about the bristles becoming misshaped.
They are in the compartment of the Lorac Pirates palette, but never used. I drop dead HATE double ends.
Haha. Me too which is okay because generally I am not looking for dual sided brushes, but sometimes you end up loving one end and the other becomes the sacrificial dud.
I just don’t purchase them. I like the convenience of having them in a cup. Only issue I find is that most brow brushes also come with a spoolie on the other end. I’ve been saving my brow pencils that have spoolies I like and using a separate angled brush.
I put them in a drawer and forget they exist.
That is my problem too.
I don’t like the idea of ruining one end by storing the brush in a cup/brush holder, but I sure hate idea of storing a brush (or anything, really) in a place where it’ll end up forgotten and buried under everything else.
For that reason, I feel that they’re a waste, although I do love to pack them when I travel.
I’d love to find a solution
Me too! I even have some I really like and never use because I forgot about them.
I only have one double ended brush, which is the brush that came with the UD Naked Smoky palette; otherwise I don’t buy double ended brushes, I don’t find them practical.
I store it with the blending side up, the smaller end with the precision brush is stiffer so it doesn’t loose shape. And I use more often the fluffy blending side. Otherwise that brush is 5 years old, washed regularly and still going strong.
I don’t use them, so if I get one I try to pass it on to someone else or donate it.
Along with all my others; in a tumbler and a cup, upright. It’s so well packed that I have yet to ruin any of my brush heads! Like you, I do have it where my favorite end is facing upwards.
Do you end up forgetting about the “hidden” end? Or do you still reach for it when in need of that type of brush?
(I know I’d forget about the hidden end – anything that is not in sight doesn’t exist for me!)
Hi Madame Miyagi, with certain brushes, I really do wind up forgetting the hidden end, especially the ABH brushes. With those I only want the flat shader end, if at all. Brushes from Urban Decay are a different story. I usually do use both ends of those.
Like everyone else, I don’t really have a good answer. I never purchase them and those that come with palettes I give away. I have one that I’ve kept and it stays stored in an UD palette I use for travel. That is the only time that brush ever gets used.
I don’t buy them separately, but if a particularly nice one comes with something else, I stick a small magnet mid-brush and keep it on my magnet board.
(My toddler nephew gave me the idea: He has an easel with a chalkboard on one side and alphabet magnets on the other. I bought a magnetic easel meant for Magnetic Poetry, and now I attach magnets to single eyeshadows, small palettes like Denona’s mini fives, small hooks to hold my tweezers and eyelash curler, and anything else I don’t want rattling around or lost in my stuffed drawers.)
Oooh! That’s brilliant!
Thanks so much for the idea!
I love this!! I already have a magnet board for super shock shadows and other singles. So, I’m going to make room for a few of my double-ended brushes and even some tools. Thank you so much for sharing! 🙂
Exactly. Me too.
Ergo, I tend to use only one end; I only have one and will never buy another. I don’t know why companies make these double ended ones. Unless you keep it in a pencil-case style makeup bag you’re doing a disservice to the brush.
I store them in a pencil box-style tin. (With Disney Princesses on it.)
I have very few, most came with a product or a single one in a brush set. They aare annoying. I keep them flat in a clear acrylic longer narrow box. I also dry them flat which I suspect will ruin them eventually.
I bought two octo refillable palettes from Shu Uemura that come with dual brushes that are stored flat inside in their notch. They’re ok for travel but I never reach for them at home and would never buy dual-ended brushes on their own.
I have a lot of dust in my apartment, so I keep all my brushes flat in a drawer in my vanity. Double ended brushes are not an issue storage wise, but they’re also just sitting in my collection and I don’t grab for them if at all!
This is a great topic/question. I hate hate hate double-sided brushes. I’ve tried using stiff brush guards on the side facing down, but that does not work and the bristles end up being caught in it.
I think I have 2-3 and I never use them, they just sit in one of my makeup drawers, so I should really de-stash them to someone who will, thanks for the reminder! I won’t purchase any anymore, even if they’re great quality, because I know I will end up ruining the other side.
Thank you Nancy, you are giving me hope! I might try to store them upwards, even though I will probably still be scared to ruin one end…
Just in my brushes container with the fluffy end right side up. It is a problem though.
I keep them in the sectioned mobile compartment of an IKEA Godmorgon drawer organizer. This way, they’re neither vertical nor horizontal, but lie diagonally, preserving both ends without the inconvenience of horizontal storage. Best of both worlds.
I just keep the double ended brush laying flat in a clear box, so this way both sides maintain safe.
I only have 2-not out of any personal problems with them, it just happens that 2 palettes I bought included them-and they lie horizontally in a makeup bag with my other frequently-used makeup brushes.
One was from UD Electric and I tend to use its large end as my crease brush.
I hate double-ended brushes if they do come with a palette I throw away. I do have one which came with IT Cosmetics which is actually a good foundation one end and concealer blender the other. I keep it in the clear tube it came in as does Celesta.
