Temptalia Asks You - Do you plan what you want to buy/how much to spend for an upcoming launch?

Do you plan what you want to buy/how much to spend for an upcoming launch? Or do you just decide when you get there? Do you write a list as soon as you hear about the launch?

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! I’ve already done some Dame Edna hauling (just arrived to my country). Chill hasn’t really impressed me, so I’m waiting for Blonde Brunette Redhead to do some major hauling… how much money will I spend, I don’t know!!

Nicole Avatar

I neither bought anything from Edna nor from Chill. The products and colors did not impress me at all, but I’m looking forward to the release of Blonde Brunette and Redhead next month. I plan to spend 17.50 or 35 Euro.

I haven’t been very excited about many of the past collections so I usually just wait to see them in person before plotting on anything.

BTW, I absolutely LOVE your site! I remember you from the LJ MAC community (which I no longer browse…lol—besides your site is a more visually pleasing and thorough MAC and other beuaty brand resource). I’ve got you on my site’s blogroll 😉

I haven’t been excited about a launch for like a year–even passed on cult of cherry! BUt hello Kitty…serious droolage…I loved hello kitty since I was a kid so yeah I’m anxiously waiting this one 🙂 Thanks luv for posting pics!

Now that I have access to so much information beforehand, I do plan ahead. I look at swatches and reviews and make my choices, then I go on MAC’s website and put items in my cart that would be the same price as the items in the collection. That way I know how much damage I’m going to do, but it also helps me plan for other things I might need; like more storage [palettes, tiers for my drawers, etc].

I plan it but then I check it with how I actually like it in person. I have a habit of buying one thing from a launch and then going back a couple weeks later and getting more.

I usually make a list as soon as I get the photos and color story from online (usually here!) and then go to my counter or order online if I can’t get there early enough. I only have a little MAC counter close to me, and I live in constant fear that they won’t have something I want from an LE launch.

I try and plan what I am going to get, then always wind up getting WAY more. I just got some Dame Edna stuff and while I like the colors, the stickers have got to go. They were already coming off my Gladiola lipstick and the lip glasses. Tacky. I just bought a bunch of stuff on their site using the 25% off, but now am regretting doing that because what I REALLY want is almost everything in the BBR collection. So I might be returning all that stuff for BBR!!

I always keep a list of items that I want from all upcoming launches. And I usually go over the list once I see swatches and looks. And I put a star next to what items I want the most.

Cody Avatar

I usually make a list and revise it about a hundred times as new swatches and reviews come out. I use that list to budget accordingly so I have a sense of how much money I will probably be spending in the next month or two… but it’s always subject to change when I actually get to the MAC store!

Depends on how much I can convince my boyfriend to spend! Haha just kidding, I go through and pick out a few items usually for each launch if there are products/colours that appeal to be and consider how much wear I will get out of them and how much I’d regret not getting an item. This year I’m really trying to curb my spending habits though.

Eva Avatar

Yeah, I always look at different sites (like Temptalia, other blogs or specktra)to see swatches and look up reviews.
This kills the first lemmings and swatching them myself has in the past killed the remaining ones.
I thought I “had” to have some of the CHILL e/s or one of the Dame Edna palettes, but the colours had either mediocre colour payoff or just looked wrong on me.

This year I am definitely going to give myself a budget on makeup expenses. So I am going to plan on what I will buy/spend on collections from now on. I only got like 3 things from Chill, skipped DE, and I actually got a lot less of BBR then I originally planned. That and with only being a student and working part time I don’t have a bunch of money to blow lol.

I make a list & try to plan what I buy, but I almost always end up buying more! At least by planning I get an idea of how much I’m going to end up spending.

Kathleen Avatar

I always make a list as soon as the official pic comes out, but for some reason I always end up getting alot less. For rexample, the BBR collection, I planned to get ALL the lipsticks and lipglosses….but I ended up getting NONE AT ALL. LOL

Annie Avatar

I write a list and then look at those when I get to the store and then make a final decision. I also have my MAC artist call me when a collection I want to see comes out so that I can be sure to get everything I want before it sells out. She said she will call me in advance for Hello Kitty because she thinks it will sell out FAST! YIKES! I am excited for it though. 🙂

Macfan1966 Avatar

Absolutely. I list what I want and figure out my budget. Unfortunately, I always buy more. Everything is so nice in person.
