What category of beauty products always excites you?

Eyeshadow! It really seems to be a forever kind of love — it was what made me fall in love with makeup!

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! For me it’s multi use cream products.

I know that most products can be multi use anyway, but I love when something is also formulated to work safely on the eye.

They are great for travel and touch-ups, and I get inspired to use them creatively.

Lipstick! I’ve been fascinated with lipstick since I was a child and ruining them in my mother’s vanity. (She was not pleased.) Then blush. I still feel like I’m searching for that perfect shade of blush. And as for lipstick, I just love everything about it. The colors, the aesthetics, as in the case, fragrance, etc.

I also was fascinated with my mother’s lipstick as a child (which is bad, since she owned like one or two of them). I literally use her lipstick when I was 4-5 years old to write on walls and under wood tables (because I discovered she can see the wall, but she won’t check under tables/chairs). 😆
When I was 12 years old I saved my allowance money to buy a lipstick for her birthday. It was a brown shade she would never wear (similar to MAC Photo or Retro I guess), but I would totally rock right now.

I actually love the rancid castor oil scent of old lipsticks, it bring me tons of memories.

That was my story too. My mom had two lipsticks that she almost never wore, a bright pink and a bright orange. I was obsessed with them. I used to beg her to let me put that pink one on. Even as a child, I was wearing hot pink lips to school and didn’t care if my sister or the other kids made fun of me. I still love them, with a waaaaay bigger shade range, but they’ve taken a slight back seat to eyeshadow palettes. I’m most excited by collections that have palettes AND lipsticks though.

Eyeshadow palettes, for the (more) obvious reasons, but for the past year or so, I’ve been into the new foundation releases, especially from DS brands. I bought several since Summer, and have a few more on my list to try, but I’m forcing myself to finish at least 3 before buying any more…

I also have a weakness for contour & highlight products, but I’ve been pretty good about using a bit more discretion than in the past.

Yep, eyeshadow for me, too! Even if new releases of it rarely excite me, I still get excited when I get to play with my existing collection. It’s my favorite part of doing my makeup! And I love to look at the colorways of new palette releases.

You and me both, Christine: eyeshadow! It was the biggest challenge to learn how to work with my very hooded almond eye shape, but accomplishing it led to some fairly extreme artistic expression using them by the time I was 17. This led to an obsession with it. All the various textures and finishes, different shades and variations of shades, all the very different color combinations I could put together, just everything.

Lipsticks always get me excited, but it’s more about the colors not the actual formula (since I only go to MAC Matte and Satin formula). Lipsticks made me fall in love with makeup and I’ll be honest and admit I sometimes go to MAC stores, pick a couple of shades and try them just for fun. 😆

But formula wise, foundations and concealers excite me more, especially as more skincare ingredients are incorporated. I love finding a new good option for my base.

Lip tints and balms. It’s all I really wear, so all I can be excited by. But I LOVE watching people try (and rock) the newest releases in other categories.

Eyeshadow is my passion and weakness, has been from the very beginning. I remember my first love was a Covergirl eye kit that came with warm toned neutral eyeshadow palette, brown eyeliner and mascara my Aunt gave my Mom for Christmas. I knew my Mom was never going to use it, after a month it made its way onto my dresser. I wore it daily for months.

Blush and highlighters. They get me every single time. I have so many that it’s not even funny. I have enough to last several lifetimes, but it makes me happy. I am especially into mid-high end face palettes and duos.

Face palettes. Especially ones that have blush, highlighter and bronzer/contour in shades that will work for me. Even better if they are shades that I love, not just “will work”. Best yet, when the release satisfies my bougie self and is in lux packaging.
Luckily I don’t come across that combination very often, I would have a very difficult time with my budget otherwise!

Eyeshadow palettes of course. They are like getting new art supplies with all the colors and finishes, and I can’t wait to play with them on my eyes, or even just to swatch. It’s exciting to have all those choices. Along with that, if they are part of a collection (ahem, Colourpop), I often want the whole bundle. If the bundle sells out before I’m ready to buy, though, then when I have to decide if I want all these things individually, it’s usually just the palette and a couple of lip colors.
