Would you change the way your makeup is organized if you could?
It might be nice to have real built-ins with some glass doors so more was visible/on display. I’m pretty happy with what I have, though!

Yes, definitely. I’d love to get a couple of those Ikea Alex 9-drawers. I just don’t have the space for them right now. I decided to reorganize my lipsticks a few days ago. This time, I tried to organize by shade, but now it just seems like a jumbled mess to me, so I might go back to the way I had them organized before I reorganized.
I like the way I have it organized, though I do wish I had a bit more space… then again, more space makes it easier for me to fill it up with things I don’t need!
I have my lip products pretty well organised as it is, into category and even country of origin (Asian lip products get their own tray because I love them so much), but I’d like dividers in the trays themselves. I have sticks tossed in with pots and it’s messy.
Given what I have to work with, and space limitations, I’m pretty much content with the way things are. However, in a perfect world, I’d have a separate room altogether.
I tend to “redo” things every couple of months, to try to make things better, but I still haven’t found a solution I truly love.
Oh my goodness, YES! If I had things my way, I would own a true vanity where I could comfortably fit my legs under. One with drawers and shelves on either side of the unit. Then, I would invest in drawer dividers to keep everything in its place and a place for everything. Only problem? My bedroom isn’t large enough to accommodate it with my existing BR chest of drawers and dresser. Since both belonged to my Mom, I don’t know how I’d feel giving one piece up. Hopefully, my next place has a larger bedroom than this!
I’m happy with my vanity and everything laid out and visible. I used to have drawers, and even when they were organized, I found them kind of depressing.
I would say that overall I am happy with the organization and the actual units. I have antique furniture throughout my house so going with antique pieces works for me. For someone who visually needs to see their collection all of the time, this would not work. I have a vanity that has one drawer that is the width of the unit. In that I keep current products in my rotation. I also keep skin care that doesn’t need to be refrigerated. On top are mirror lined, glass trays that house my high end lipsticks and round glass bowls that house my brushes, lip and eye pencils and anything that is pencil like. I have an antique music stand that has ten drawers and those are each dedicated to a particular product type, ie individual e/s, blushes, highlighters, etc
I have a huge armoire that houses palettes, products too large to fit in the music drawers.
The one thing that I vacillate about is how to organize the products within the categories. I go back and forth between colour and brand. I honestly don’t like either but nothing better has presented itself. By brand works for me for lipsticks, especially high end because those are the ones I use the most and so they sit on top and I can see them readily. Other lipsticks are in drawers organized by colour which works in some respects if I am looking for a particular colour family. Organizing by brand works because of how I use the packaging. Since I take the box the product comes in and I cut it in half and then glue it to the previous box from that brand so that all the products stand upright without falling over when one is removed. This works well and means that unless a brand changes their packaging, they are the same size and colour which just gives a neater appearance. Because I am a crafter and I always have tons of crafting supplies lying around, products that don’t have a box are quickly built a box. Also, for some products other cardboard packaging works. Example: Take any empty cardboard or chipboard box and cut up from the bottom however tall you want the box. Use the remainder of the cardboard to make dividers in the box bottom. Stick your products in and they will stay upright. In a perfect world I would buy all of the acrylic organizers but since I don’t get to control the sizes of what is available in acrylic organizer’s, utilizing cardboard and product boxes is actually less frustrating to me.
Wow! Would love to see pics!
I’m lucky enough to have a spare bedroom and I have taken over the old Scotch chest in there with the bulk of my collection. It’s great for storing palettes and I have re-used some Mecca boxes to sort and store smaller items, since they’re all the same size and Jenga together really well. So I’m pretty happy with the way it is now but ideally, if money and space were no object, I would have my own dressing room with makeup and beauty products only, several antique dressers, a large mirror with Hollywood strip lighting as well as a skylight and plenty of bench space.
There is always room for improvement, but I am quite satisfied with my current set-up. If I could religiously put everything in its spot every darn day I wear makeup, then that would be a big win. I’ve been so busy with other projects outside, the inside of my house is less organized than usual and my makeup room is probably hardest hit because it is out of sight.
I have an entire room dedicated to my makeup and I have a toolbox taller than myself where most of it is stored. What isn’t stored in the toolbox is stored in a massive old fashioned chest that my grandmother had. I wouldn’t change a thing.
Yes I would if I had the space to do so. I am not quite sure how though.
I would if I could, and I can; I haven’t taken the necessary steps to awesome organization, because I haven’t decided yet what form that would take. Eventually I’ll figure it out.
I have very pooor organizational skills and a ton of makeup. I have 3 medium or large IRIS brand carts from an office supply store. I’ve tried to sort my prodducts so they make sense but the drawers are different sizes. If I put products in order of use, some drawers would be almost empty and others would require 2 drawers. I also have trouble sorting by color for lippies especially.
I need an intervention, I think.
I’d like an easily accessible storage addition that would be tall enough to fit all my brushes and tall bottles so they could remain standing. All that stuff lives on top my vanity now so it always looks cluttered. I’ve envisioned a cabinet in the knee space or one that sits on the vanity top-maybe encircling the mirror. Other than that I am happy with what I have. 😉
I like to keep everything out on the top of my drawers. that way, I can always see that I have too much product and that I don’t need more. In the past, I organized my makeup into drawers. this led me to buy much more makeup than usual, because I underestimated my stash.
I do this with everything. Candles, bottles of wine, lotions, etc. The only item in my life I have allowed myself to purchase without restraint is socks! lol
My makeup collection fits into one small drawer with lots of room to spare, so I’m not bursting at the seams BUT I would love it if I could get it out of the bathroom. I do have enough room in my bedroom to where I could buy an antique vanity of some sort — but the problem is that I have to be at work at 6:30am so I get ready in the dark year round.
Yes, definitely! I need more space and I’d like every to be glass (which I’d cover with a satin cloth to avoid dust). And I’d really like an old fashioned vanity with the center mirror that you sit in front of with two side areas. This and a fancy bathroom were my childhood fantasy rooms for my future home. LOL!
