Pat McGrath Holiday 2019 Mini Eyeshadow Palettes Swatches
Just in time for the holidays (yes, that’s probably what these are intended for!), there are two Pat McGrath Eye Ecstasy Mini Eyeshadow Palettes ($28.00 for 0.18 oz.). Each palette includes five shades; all of the shades have been released previously (see this post for more information). Based on the cost per ounce of the brand’s single eyeshadows, each palette contains a whopping $118.42 worth of eyeshadow. From swatching (and using one of the palettes), they seem like they are poised to be consistent with past releases with respect to pigmentation and texture (wear to be tested!).
Because I was already buying Ultra Vixen, I also threw the Subversive mini in my cart and bought both! Those jewel toned shades got me and good, haha!
I picked both up. Glad to see it is such a good deal!
Hey Christine, do the shadows pop out? I don’t have Synthetica or Crimson Fire, but the other 3 in Subversive I have, so I could split it with a friend if the shadows have a magnetic bottom. I’m assuming no due to the price point, but you never know.
They are glued in.
Thank you! It’s still cheaper to grab this than the two singles, but it’s so wasteful.
What struck me when I saw these palettes was the packaging. I think it looks cheap and tacky, and there’s so much wasted space. Plus, I can’t do a complete look with either palette, so these are a very easy pass for me.
Seraphine, there was a discussion about this the other day. I hate the excess packaging (the sequins and the outer bag) – I’m willing to bet that very few of the people who buy this also do hand beading so the sequins (and the plastic bag) are just a total waste and contribute needlessly to the tonnes of plastic already in landfills, oceans… The palette itself could be roughly half the size it is.
Shame on Pat McGrath!
What is happening PMG on packaging? I understand it here on a value mini palette, but far less on the primer/powder release at full blown luxury pricing.
I can’t get a sense of how big the actual diameter of the pans are. Would you say they’re smaller than a quarter?
Yes, they are smaller than a quarter.
Hi! Do you know if they are only around for Christmas and are limited edition, or they are actually permanent? Asking because I wanna wait til Pat releases all palettes (Mothership 6 and three 4-pan palettes) before ordering, since shipping fee to HK can be steep 🙂 thanks in advance!!
They are most likely for the holidays and most likely limited edition!
These are a pass for me for several reasons: I have most of the shades in singles, or in other owned PMG palettes, the lavish and sturdy packaging is one of the reasons I love PMG products– these are not! I purchased a kit from Sephora”Eye Ecstasy shadow and mascara kit” because of the price point, and never use it!
Finally, Im saving my $$$ for her Midnight Sun palette, which I have a feeling will be a must have item!!
I like Subversive the best and there is that pesky gold in there again, LOL!! I will think about it but likely will wait for other, soon to be released, PML palettes.
I think I’m the only person on the planet who doesn’t get the hype over Pat McGrath. I’ve tried her lipstick, eyeshadow and her foundation none of it impressed me in the least and most of it has been thrown out or given away. After the debacle with the launch of her foundation and the complete and total lack of customer service from her company web site I will never give her another dime of my hard earned money.
I was a huge fan of her makeup artistry for years so I always look though I haven’t tried. That’s why I’m often tempted to try her palettes, though they won’t really suit me.
I don’t have the Decadence palette and have all but given up hope of it being released again. The Subversive mini seems like a good way to pick up a few of the colors. Blue Blood is gorgeous!
These shades are stunning and so much more affordable that the usual PMG. I love the shades in both minis and they look so good.
@Christine I feel like you do a lot of eye looks with shades from your Pat McGrath palettes. May I ask if you find yourself gravitating to certain of those colours or palettes? (if so, which ones). I did order the jewel toned one as I’m curious about all the hype and just don’t have money for a large palette….
I really enjoy the PMG formula, so if I need something reliable for a group of swatches (but nothing from what I’m swatching makes sense), then I tend to go for a palette (easiest to reach for) from ND or PMG (or else something I’ve recently reviewed but liked!).
Thank you Christine 🙂
I picked up Subversive and the Natasha Denona Mini Tropic palette. Great to hear this swatched well, and has such a great value!
In the Sublime palette, Sinful and Corruption are so gorgeous. I would be really tempted to pick it up too, but I already have Gold Nectar, and now four PMG gold shades total.
Why 5 eyeshadows? There is room for 6 in these palettes…
