I use exfoliating wipes when I have dry flakes on my lips and use lip balm but will wipe it off just before applying lip colour as it stops it applying properly. I use a lot of lip balm on no makeup days and always before bed

Yes. Fresh Sugar advanced therapy balm in a stick. I like that it is not too gooey and does not add a bunch of slip. I always have a tube on me. I tend to apply after my foundation so it has time to sit. I apply lipstick as my final step. If I am going to wear a bold lip, I will typically exfoliate with Fresh Sugar lip polish.

I’ve been tempted to try Tatcha Camellia gold spun, but it’s pricey and wondering if it is actually any better than Fresh advanced therapy or too slippery.

I do like using a night-time treatment type product – Bite’s or Laneige lip “masks” because with Canadian winters, products like that are a necessity – but the greatest thing I’ve tried as been a lipstick primer from Elizabeth Arden. I think it’s been around for a long time but I’ve only recently “discovered” it. It is a great lip primer but the best thing about it is that it allows me to wear UD’s so-called “comfort matte” lipstick. I’d purchased Love Drunk because the colour is so beautiful but I found it so dry and draggy that I couldn’t bear to wear it. Now, thanks to the Lip Fix, I wear it often and love it. I also really like the combo of Fresh’s lip scrub followed by the Laneige lip treatment before bed when my lips get really chapped.

No, not really. I don’t exfoliate my lips, as I rarely need it, and even when I do “need it,” self-enforcing regular balm use takes away that need. (I used to brush my lips with a toothbrush every now and then, but I eventually decided it wasn’t making any difference — for better or worse — so I stopped.)

Odds are good that if I put on a lip product, I’ve applied balm recently and the two will act together on my lips, but I don’t do it deliberately. I bought the ColourPop balm-like lipstick base and used it for a while, but could never quite convince myself of the necessity and eventually just forgot I even owned it.

I do. I’ve always had dehydrated skin, face and body alike, no matter how much water I drink, so I need to make sure that I use proper skincare/body care to prevent the transepidermal water loss and to reinforce the skin barrier.
My lips are no exception. Every night I use the Bite Beauty Agave Lip mask; I’ve tried the pink Laneige mask, but for my needs, I didn’t find it as hydrating as the Bite beauty one. Before applying a lipstick, I use a lip balm. In winter – the Bite Beauty one, and during summer – Scentuals 100% Natural Lip Conditioner Vanilla Tangerine, Crate 61 Organics Lip Balm or the Green Cricket SPF 30 Lip Balm. I gently exfoliate once or twice a week (Bite Beauty exfoliator + Sephora silicone lip brush).
The only situations when I don’t use a lip balm: prior to applying a Bite Beauty liquid lipstick or a Bite Beauty Lip Lush. These are so hydrating by themselves, that all the oils in them get completely absorbed into my lips in a couple of minutes. I end up with moisturized lips and a beautiful color on top.

I don’t wear lip color that often but if I do, I use a lip primer from Bite so that the pencil I need to reshape my asymmetrical mouth glides on easily. Then color. Otherwise I just use one of the tinted Bite agave balms as my mouth “makeup”. At night I use a Dr Dennis Gross lip collagen treatment followed by Clarins lip balm. I own a lip scrub but its major use is to get rid of flaky skin under my eyes.

yup! an overnight lip mask and an occasional lip scrub for general lip care and a thin layer of lip balm before i apply lip color.

On the day to day, no, I don’t do anything to prep my lips. I exfoliate a couple of times a week when I exfoliate my whole face. My biggest lipstick issue besides not really having any lips to put lipstick on, is the lack of a strong lip border which I had when I was younger but has been steadily disappearing. For that reason I have to try and use a lip liner to make a strong border but with lip lines, it is a struggle. Lip lines make the verge of your lips uneven and if I get it right, then it is difficult to reproduce when you have to reapply. Lipstick is my favorite beauty product so having aging lips is the most difficult change to deal with.

I use lip balm-always flavored, sometimes a Lip Smacker or a Hershey flavor from Lotta Luv, but usually Blistex Raspberry Lemonade Blast-right before my lipstick or gloss. If I have flakes on my lips, I exfoliate them with a cold wet paper towel, usually Bounty, before applying the lip balm-the texture of the paper towel really attracts the flakes.

I usually just apply a slightly waxy lip balm first (usually Blistex or eos), let it soak in while doing my face, then blot off the extra before applying lip color. Occasionally I need to exfoliate first.

I have a few finicky lipsticks and lip tars that are unique colors, so I am willing to do more prep. E.l.f. Lip Lock Crayon or UD Ozone and lipliner do the trick.

I wear less waxy lip balms around the house and at night.

Whenever I have flaky lips I wet a make up remover cloth and rub it over my lips. I hate lip scrubs, because I always have the feeling that they even hurt and damage my lips further. I use a simple lip balm every morning and every evening – with primers I could never be bothered about the extra step and I do not mind reapplying my lipstick. But I got a sample of a Kanebo Sensai plumping lip care/primer and it plumps my lips without tingling and whenever I wear red to go out (special occasion) I would dab the tiniest amount on my lips – that stuff is expensive as hell…

Lip balm morning and night, right after brushing my teeth, plus in between if I feel like I need some. Then I slightly overline and fill in with a pale nude (currently CP As If), then the color of choice will look like itself. I retrace the lipline with the color and then fill in.
