How do you apply under-eye concealer?

I usually get a little dab or dot of product under each eye, gently buff/blend/spread it out with my foundation brush and then go back in with a smaller concealer brush to soften the edges and get closer to my lower lash line. I’ll use a small, flat brush to pat a lightweight powder on (not really baking but a little more than a dusting!).

I use a tiny dot under my eyes and any other place that needs more coverage (usually next to my nose and on my chin and if I have any blemishes) and then blend it out with a Real Techniques blending brush (one that came with a purple eye set a long time ago). Then, I pat over everything with my ring finger to further blend and melt the concealer into my skin. Also I always use corrector under my eyes and that help tone down my under eye darkness and aids in using less concealer overall.

I dot on Tarte Shape Tape Concealer….just one small dot because it’s so thick. (I’ll never understand how YT-ers get it to work when they apply huge, thick strokes of this stuff!) Then I spread it out using a Sigma 3DHD Precision Brush and use my pinkies to tap it in until it’s blended. I set it with Laura Mercier Secret Blurring Powder (bought it last year and it’s nice, but I don’t think it’s worth re-buying. I’ll use it up, then just use my regular setting powder in the future).

I usually wear 2 concealers and layer starting with a thin base of Elf undereye primer.
1. Doe foot liquid: I tap a very small amount on the back of my hand and use my pinky to push and tap into place and smooth edges with MAC 286 or 287. I like to pair the new GA concealer for light/medium coverage foundations and TST or TFBTW for medium/full.
Concealer pot: I use a MAC 242 to apply to the darkened areas still showing through the thin liquid layer and buff out with MJ concealer brush
Set: With Laura Gellar Baked ‘n brighten in porcelain using Zoeva 143

I actually use a Clinique foundation stick as my concealer- i got it as a sample, and the color matched so well that I’ve just kept repurchasing. I rub my clean fingertip on the stick, put it right where I get a purple line under my eyes, and then patpatpat with a different fingertip until I look like I have neither a purple line nor makeup on.

This is an area where I’ve really struggled, but here’s what I’ve been doing lately, and it’s been working for me. I have very dark under eyes, so first I use the Becca corrector very lightly in my darkest spots and apply with Sephora Pro concealer brush #71 (which has been key for me). Then I put concealer on back of my hand and grab a tiny bit with the brush and gently pat it in place. I repeat until I get the coverage I want. Lastly, I set it all with a fluffy brush and Hourglass Dim Light-not a ton of powder because I’ll look dry quickly.

I was having issues with flaking so now minimize that issue by first mixing Tarte Shape Tape concealer with a drop of Fenty Beauty primer on a small plate, using an old Bobbi Brown cream shadow brush to fully mix. Then apply several dots of this mixture to under eye area using my ring finger. Then carefully blend (so as to not disturb the skin) using a MUFE 144 brush and apply more right underneath the lash line where I’ve got some purple veining and dark circles. Let dry then set with a touch of setting powder–either FX brand or Fenty brand.

Dab with my finger or a round concealer brush in the dark areas of my under-eye and eyelids. I have raccoon eyes (very much dark all around my eyes), so I really has to have a natural looking concealer and corrector. Dabbing and then blending works best for me.

Dab two or three small dots under each eye, then blend it out and then upward on the outer edge of my eye. That last part has the effect of sharpening up my outside edge of my eyeshadow, cleaning it up, as if I had used tape! After this, I apply RMCA No Color Powder with my damp “beauty blender” sponge to set it. Once in awhile, I will use that to apply the concealer too, but mostly, I do so with my ring finger.

I don’t. I use foundation. Anything I try to use ends up settling into my lines and looking cakey. What I do have is the Becca undereye corrector which evens out the lovely genetic dark circles.

Ruby Avatar

Thanks for this recommendation. As I’ve gotten older, I can’t use most concealers under my eyes anymore … lines, lines, lines, yikes! (And they ALL sink in, despite their claims.) But maybe this is a solution for my raccoon circles.

I put a small dot of Tarte Shape Tape, yes I am still trying to use up the last of the tube before purchasing something else and then tap out with my finger. I am shopping new concealers now as I won’t repurchased the Tarte. I just picked up a sample of the Too Faced Born this Way but haven’t tried it yet.

CeeBee Avatar

I don’t.

I’ve never used it. I don’t have bags or dark circles and I only have a few fine lines so piling extra product under my eyes seems a bit counter intuitive.

I apply a tiny amount to my finger tip and then warm it a bit before dabbing under each eye. I used a wonderful Sephora brush to smooth and blend (and sometimes to apply, touching it to my finger tip) – it’s a brush from their Pro Line that was designed for cream eyeshadow but it’s the BEST concealer brush I’ve ever used (and better than their designated concealer brushes) but, sadly and stupidly, it was discontinued several years ago. I set with a loose powder (Hourglass Veil or Fenty’s Lavender lately but really, any good setting powder, whether pressed or loose, works for me).

My concealer always creases right after I apply it/blend it out! The only thing that works is applying copious amounts of powder/”baking” it right after I finish blending concealer.

I use UD peach color corrector dabbed on with the doefoot applicator and then I blend that with a mini RT sponge. I let it set a few seconds and then I dab on Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer with a synthetic brush that cost a dollar. I blend it out with the brush but I rely on my pointer finger to press it in. I don’t usually set it.

You’re a unicorn! That’s awesome. I’ve always had a fascination with people who don’t need color correction around their eyes. I use IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer. It has the consistency of paste when squeezed out of its tube. It ruined me for other concealers I want to try.

Mary Avatar

I use Edward Bess Illuminating eyeshadow base , click pen brush style applicator , not really a concealer , but I apply it with the click pen brush then tap it with my finger to blend out .

I love that product. I have backups. So good. I do use it as an eyeshadow base. For concealer, I’m using the new Surratt Palette. The two colors on the fair one are excellent for me and I don’t think there’s alcohol in the product so not drying or increasing fine lines. I use a Zoeva concealer brush. It’s kind of a monster but does the job. I tap with it. Also the palette has a lavender powder which I tap on with my ring finger. I have so much discoloration all around my eyes, that just good concealing, priming, and brows– I can sometimes bypass the rest of makeup. Getting lazy I guess.

I dab dots of either Estee Lauder double wear concealer or Kat Von D lock it concealer cream under my eyes where it’s most purplish then blend with a finger to blur the edges. I use Laura Mercier Secret Brightening powder to set. Either concealer is pretty good though I’ve yet to find HG, the LM powder is just meh. I agree with another commenter who wonders why some you tubers put gobs of concealer on, don’t get that. For me (at nearly 60) less is more

Vittoria Avatar

Doesn’t double wear concealer feel like some matte liquid liner / matte liquid lipstick formulas? I never had the skin for it. It only worked for me a few times in very humid tropical heat.

I use exclusively my 4th digit to apply under eye concealer. I find that the warmth of my fingers helps the product sink in much better than if I were to use any brush. For any blemishes though, I use the Sephora
airbrush concealer brush or the laura mercier teeny tiny concealer brush.

I usually like to keep it ultra natural. A bit of discolouration peeking through is absolutely normal. I take a dot of product on my ring finger, rub both of my ring fingers together and start dabbing. Concealer blends better and gives a nicer, more skin like coverage

bibi Avatar

It depends on the concealer for me.
I use It Bye Bye Undereye concealer which requires warming up before applying. So I put a tiny amount (this is a very concentrated concealer too) on the back of my hand to warm it up. Then I use my ring finger to dab 3 dots in a V shape under each eye. I then blend it out using my ring finger again but do not take it up to the lash line. I do take concealer up to my temples and inner eye (tear duct_ also as they are a bit concave- this serves to make my close set eye slightly farther apart and cleans up the outer edge of my eye shadow.

Most Nars products perform better with the application of your fingertips, it helps to melt the product. By pressing and rolling your fingertips with either the foundation or concealer, the results are better.

Bonnie Avatar

3 little dots under each eye and blend with the point of a beauty sponge. I have tried both heavy and light powder to set it, since I am very prone to creasing, but both make my undereyes flaky AND emphasize little crepey areas.
