Le Metier de Beaute Bauhaus Eye Kaleidoscope
Le Metier de Beaute Bauhaus Eye Kaleidoscope ($95.00 for 0.56 oz. includes four eyeshadows: Axiom (sublime bronzed umber), Graphic (silver liquid metal), Crucible (rich pomegranate), and Genre (deep gunmetal).
Axiom is a warmed-up, bronze-shimmered, medium-dark brown with orange-tan undertones. It has full pigmentation both wet and dry, and when used damp, the metallic sheen becomes more pronounced. Chanel Intuition #4 is darker, redder-toned. Tarte Brilliant Bronze is less warm-toned. Clarins Enchanted Summer #3 is is very similar. Buxom Golden Retriever is more frosted and less orange-y. Giorgio Armani Gold Blitz #5 is very similar–more metallic in finish.
Graphic is a soft, cool-toned gray with a silver shimmer and sheen. When applied dry, it has decent color payoff but feels a touch powdery. When applied damp, it becomes more metallic and, as a result, looks lighter. L’Oreal Primped & Precious is similar in color but more metallic. Giorgio Armani #22 is slightly lighter.
Crucible is a darkened cranberry red with red-brown undertones and a frosted finish. It had good pigmentation when applied dry and wet, but it was better applied wet. It was a smidgen powdery dry, and the damp application made it perfectly smooth. Cinderella Rococo is browner. MAC Star Violet is very similar. Maybelline Pomegranate Punk is a bit purpler and a cream product.
Genre is a deep, rich, blackened gray with a soft, pearly finish. The color payoff is excellent both wet and dry, and I didn’t notice much (if any) difference between either application. Tarte Intergalactic is lighter. Urban Decay Black Market is a warmer gray. Bobbi Brown Gunmetal is a smidgen lighter.
While buying an Eye Kaleidoscope is no doubt painful at $95 in a single go, at least you’re getting half an ounce worth of eyeshadow. I purchased mine from Nordstrom, which is sold out, but it’s still available at counters and at other online retailers like Saks. Each eyeshadow is 0.14 oz. in size, which is nearly triple the average full-sized eyeshadow–it’s only $169/oz. (whereas brands like MAC and Urban Decay are $300/oz. and $380/oz., respectively), but some of that is offset by the fact that many of us are unlikely to finish the majority of eyeshadows we own. If you are, though, it’s superb deal! 🙂
I’m a big fan of Le Metier de Beaute’s eyeshadow formula, because they’re incredibly soft, finely-milled, and buttery–super dense and richly pigmented–and they can be used wet or dry. They’re also designed to be layered over each other, too, so they don’t turn muddy. The soft textures make every shade a cinch to blend and diffuse around the edges, but the pigmentation means you can get rich color without having to pack it on. Graphic and Crucible felt just a smidgen powdery but not to a degree that it impacted application–I didn’t have any fall out during application despite applying all of the eyeshadows dry. I wore Bauhaus and had it last a full nine hours without creasing or fading (no primer).

I like the first and last shades a lot
They look like a dream for every eye shadow lover out there! I couldn’t shell out the money in the past but maybe I have better luck this time! ^^

I love love love Le Metier de Beaute skincare products and makeup. And yes, it is a tad expensive but so worth it. I have the Silk Road Fall/Winter eyeshadow set and it is gorgeous! Last a really long time, and I hate wearing primer sometimes. I love using it with Metier’s bronzer to complete my look.

If I had the money to buy this, I wouldn’t even hesitate. It’s so gorgeous! The bronze is to die for, and the way you blended all of the colors looks amazing! Such a great kaleidoscope.
The colour pairings in this seem a bit odd…the bronze/brown shade doesn’t really seem to fit in with the other 3
So, so tempting. I want a kaleidoscope someday but I’m not sure I’m loving this one enough for it to be my first 🙂 Any thoughts?
I don’t have very many of them, so it’s hard for me to weigh in. I want to say Nouvelle Vague is better, but it’s really because Fin (black) was so, so breathtakingly beautiful and pigmented. I think, ultimately, you have to get one where you feel every single shade speaks to you.
With kaleidoscopes…they’re limited edition, so only a few of them are available at any point. I know Bauhaus is out now, and Nouvelle Vague is, too. I believe that Neiman Marcus still has Northern Lights and maybe even Silk Road.
Of those four…I think the best quality shadows are in Silk Road, but since it’s a mauve-and-brown toned set, it can be too bruise-y for a lot of people. Still, if you’re not looking to get into vintage sets (and oh, if you are… 🙂 ), and are looking for a stellar example of LMdB quality, Silk Road is it.
Nouvelle Vague might be more wearable–google swatches!–but in recent years I think Silk Road is one of the better ones.
Can you do a layered look if you are reviewing LMdB again? Its just that it is very hard to picture what the colours will look like layered! thanks again Christine!

Crucible is a beautiful shadow! I’m loving the rich gunmetal, too. Unfortunately, this is out of my price range. I really wish brands would put out smaller sized eyeshadows, blushes, bronzers, foundations, etc. and charge less, because while these end up as a better value, I think many people wouldn’t just limit themselves to one or two palettes for a couple of years.
Love these colors though the price is kind of making me hesitant. I bet Canadian price will be over $100. Then again I haven’t even seen it anywhere in Canadian stores.
Very pretty but I don’t know if I like it enough to drop almost $100 on it :/ The only one I’ve ever been tempted seriously by is Nouvelle Vague. I still think about it from time to time. I wonder if it’s still available…:P
Crucible is absolutely gorgeous. Your lids, brows and lashes are beautiful! Le Métier should make you their model.

haha ooook. I was a bit confused for a second there. I didn’t think they launched anything from their spring collection other than the lipglosses yet and was about to get very mad at my sa for not informing me they came out with a new kaleidoscope! =)
I don’t think spring is out yet… but I’m guessing somewhat soon-ish? All I know is they’re usually the last seasonal collection I see!

I know you indicated that the LMdB shadows are meant to be layered–and they definitely are–could you post a look using that Couches de Couleurs method? I’d love to see how it looks on skin not as pale as mine!
And as to price, yes, $95 is steep for four shadows. But considering the price of individual shadows from most lines…and that these are coordinated shades in the same quantity as the individuals…I’ll pay the $95 every time. They’re definitely in the “luxury makeup” category, though.
Definitely not my thing. I can understand splurging on makeup, but this doesn’t appeal to me! Perhaps if I LOVED the colours.

My jaw literally dropped when I saw the first photo in the article. Oh, my, the colors and pigmentation look great! Not a chance to find this in my country, but love the tutorial. Perfect, as usual 🙂
These are gorgeous but a no-buy for me:
1. Two colors (graphic & crucible) I would never wear. Don’t ever go near anything that gives me a reddish eyelid look.
2. I’m into spring. I want light and pretty easter-egg colors. These could easily have been a fall palette.
This has been getting a lot of love from me lately. The quality is just superb and the colours play together in a really interesting way- a contrast of warm and cool. I love it layered, when it comes out as a sort of bronze-y, nuanced taupe, and I love the shades used on different parts of the lid.
Since a couple of people asked about Canada: The brand is not available in stores here, but you can order Le Metier from Zuneta (although I think they’re sold out of this particular item), Neiman’s or Nordstrom’s. All ship to Canada.
The eyeshadows seem gorgeous, but the size is just too big. For the average costumer it is a waste of money. :/
