This entire collection just seems so “dated”… In fact, when I saw the promo pic, the first thing that came to mind was a 1980s CoverGirl ad. I have no doubt the actual products are great, but the colors just don’t appeal to me.

Ha Ha….yes, so true…just without the mirrors. What I dont like about bareMinerals is the loose foundation….not when it is applied onto the face…but the residual that cakes onto the container ….not easily removed…so I think, “gee, is this stuff also caked onto my face?….eeek!

I’ve only tried the loose foundation a few times (sample sizes from Sephora & BE), so I probably didn’t have them long enough to have that happen. Also, I keep all my powder products out of the bathroom (I have “built-ins” in my bedroom closet where I store my makeup, or under the bed, LOL), so maybe moisture causes that? As for on my face, I “set” my mineral powders with 2-3 spritzes of rosewater & glycerin, and buff it out with a flat kabuki brush, so I’ve never experienced any “caking” (I also have fairly dry skin).

The only product that appeals to me is The Next Big Thing. The colors are very typical to what I like to use. Then again I never tried their eyes shadows before. The rest of the collection though does not intrigue me.

Christine, do you know if these are only U.S. prices or are they applicable to Canada as well? I have noticed a few companies are now pricing both countries the same.

While it is nice to see them branch out to pressed powders, I can’t help but feel that they are losing sight of what made them popular to begin with. I love their loose powders and shadows – hands down the best. I wish they would come up with more of those options rather than make everything pressed. The being said, I did purchase one of the luminizers you reviewed (because of your positive review), but I haven’t had any luck with their other pressed products.

Doesn’t bareMinerals have like 400+ colors? I swear I remember someone saying they had over 500 bareMineral eyeshadows once! If that’s the case, I can see why they’re focusing on expanding the pressed range – since it’s nowhere near that amount (yet).

Cecilia Avatar

It certainly feels like they that 400+ colors. I’ve been focused on the pressed duos/quads/palettes myself. Seeing alll those little containers of loose powder at the store kinda overwhelms you, lol.

They’ve released several loose shadows over the years, but they’ve also made most of those LE in the last few (usually in blockbuster Holiday sets). It seems they only carry about 20 or so that are in the core range, and those have pretty much stayed the same over the last few years. The only way to get new colors is to wait for the Holiday sets, but those are so expensive if you really only want a few shades. I would love it if they “introduced” new shades in these sets every year, and then pick 7-10 (at least) to sell as singles the following year.

Not to mention the success they have had with their pressed powders (especially the Ready 2.0 Palettes), it’s no wonder they want to continue that.

Speaking of the Ready 2.0 palettes, the Star Treatment is amazing, do you think they’ll be coming out with another one soon?

This, IMO, is a response to the momentum tarte has gained over the last couple of years. Also, a big “complaint” was how “messy” the loose powders can be. I actually prefer them to the pressed shadows myself, as I find them alot more versitile. I’ve actually used them with lip gloss, and with mixing mediums to use as liners; I want to experiment with nail polish, next.

The core line isn’t going anywhere any time soon. The person behind the idea of the READY line was Leslie, the founder of bareMinerals and it was created not only to fulfill her own desire to see solid minerals but she was also acting upon user requests she’s gotten over the years from fans.

Fans of the loose mineral really have nothing to fear. At the boutiques, we use both loose and READY every day. I personally don’t think of the READY as being a permanent solution but merely just another option. You can’t beat an original, right? Well, the READY isn’t claiming to try.

Just an FYI, for those who are fans of the loose mineral eyeshadows, a new line of matte eyeshadows launches today with the Remix Spring collection and Multi-Wrinkle Repair serum.

The collection looks beautiful, and I’ve been super-impressed with the Ready line so far. I’m really looking forward to this collection!

That said, the promo pic is not great. If I were to just see that and not the images of the actual products, I would not be tempted to run out and get this collection.
