When you are short on time, what makeup look do you opt for?
When you are short on time, what makeup look do you opt for? You know, the one you’ve done before that you can do without thinking?
I’ll take a cream eyeshadow or a Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill eyeshadow in a taupe/beige shade and just apply it all over lid, put Burberry Trench as a highlighter on the brow bone, then mascara. For cheeks, I’ll grab Korres Natural blush, and then lips, I’ll use whatever I have in my bag (currently, three different shades of Bobbi Brown High Shimmer Lipgloss).
Thanks to Melanie for today’s question! Do you have a question idea? Submit yours here.
When I’m in a rush I fill in my brows with Anastasia Brow Wiz and apply a Chanel mascara. I feel naked without foundation so I use MUFE duo mat powder foundation (quickest thing ever to apply) and then I reach for a peachy or coral blush (usually Gina by Nars or Malice by Chanel). Finally, I use my number one color for lips: coral. It’s either a lipstick, gloss or balm. Doesn’t matter.
Concealer around the eyes to brighten them up (usually Maybelline or L’Oreal), UD Sin on the lid, and mascara. If I have some redness on my face or mild breakout, I’ll take small dabs of concealer and smooth out the areas around my nose and cheeks. For blush, I generally use a touch of Maybelline cream mousse blush in Soft Plum. For lips, I use whatever I have on hand – usually a lipgloss or tinted lip balm – or go nude. (Right now I have several tubes of gloss in my purse, mostly Revlon. I decided my gloss collection needed more love this month.)
Burberry Midnight Brown all over the lid and blended out into the crease, black mascara (Tarte LCL), Tarte Exposed on the cheeks and whatever lip gloss I feel like using that day (I have several BE Moxie lip glosses in my purse at any given time).
I just use a TM with SPF, a mineral powder foundation, pencil in brows, add mascara, and a tinted lip balm or gloss. This is actually what I wear on a “normal” day. If I’m feeling a bit more “flashy”, I’ll just grab the first tarte palette I reach for, and pick 2-3 random shades.
My everyday clothes are very casual, so I like to keep my makeup in line with my outfit, and I feel I really can’t go wrong with any of the 10-pan palettes.
If I actually have anywhere to go that requires me to put any effort into what I wear (besides walking my daughter to school or the grocery store), then I pretty much look to my UD Naked palettes. Weekends are when I play with color…
I slap on some foundation (UD Naked Skin in 1.0) and blend with my fingers, then apply concealer (Revlon Photoready works brilliantly for everything I need) to cover any acne that’s showing through. If I haven’t gotten much sleep, I’ll apply a bit of the same concealer under the eyes. Again, I blend with my fingers. Then I quickly apply some eyeliner (Annabelle smudge liner) to my upper lash line. I avoid mascara altogether and call it a “natural eye”. If my eyes are blotchy, I’ll put a bit of UD Primer Potion on them and it evens it right out. I’ll take a neutral blush shade (I like Mac Cubic) and call it a day. Maybe on the subway or bus I’ll put on some tinted lip balm, like the Fresh Sugar one in the rosy shade.
I agree Nicole…that Revlon Photo ready concealer is wonderful…
If I was really short on time, I’d just wear sunscreen and lip balm. If I had five or ten minutes, I’d opt for under eye concealer, eye primer, a neutral wash of color, quick eyeliner, mascara, perhaps a peachy-pink blush, and whatever lippie I had in my purse.
Depends…if I wake up 5 minutes before I have to leave, I do BB cream, concealer, powder, mascara, brows, and a MLBB lipstick. I try to squeeze in time for a little blush and highlight, too. (Or I’ll just do it on the bus cuz I’m classy like that haha)
If I have last minute plans or something, I do my version of one of Kandee Johnson’s looks- MAC Brule as a wash, MAC Cork in the crease, MAC Print smudged around the eyes, black liner on the inner rims, mascara, brows, and a nude lip. That’s my go-to look for school and work, since it takes hardly any time.
Usually I go for my Burberry powder foundation and a bit of blush–my go-tos are Burberry Peony and Chanel Rose Initiale, but lately I’m really liking the Tarte Maracuja airblushes as well. Mascara, and liner if I get ambitious (usually I don’t), and whatever lipstick or lip gloss I feel like–I carry several in my purse, plus assorted lip balms. If I have a little more time I’ll maybe go for Bobbi Brown BB cream rather than the powder foundation. Set with Guerlain’s pressed Meteorites, and the whole thing takes me about five minutes.
I put on BB cream, powder, dark red lipstick, and hope for the best!
MAC MSFN used as a foundation, MAC Hipness/Crew on the cheeks, brows filled in with a random dark brown eyeshadow, UD Sin all over the eyelid, Bobbi Brown gel liner, Chanel Inimitable on the lashes and whatever lipstick/gloss I have in my bag.
BB cream to even out the complexion, concealer where needed, no eyeshadow, a little blended eyeliner on the outer 1/2 of the upper and lower lash lines, mascara, a tiny bit of contouring, a neutral blush, lightly filled in brows, and a vampy bold lip.
When I am short on time, say only 5 minutes, I will only work on my eye makeup. These days are MAC paint pot in Groundwork all over the lid, then push RMK Greyish Brown shimmer eyeshadow on top of the paint pot. Eyeliner, then mascara.
If I’m in a hurry I’ll skip foundation and use Illamasqua cream concealer on spots I feel like covering, normally under the eyes and redness on my chin. I’ll opt for either Cream Pigment in Hollow as an eye shadow or skip straight to a tiny bit of highlight on the brow bone. Without foundation I have a bit of colour to my cheeks, so blush isn’t necessary. Curl the lashes and one coat of black Bourjois Max Volume Glamour Curl (or something like that– what a horrendous name!) and I’m done! Just enough to perk me up a bit but totally foolproof if I’m panicking/rushing.
First, a foundation that doesn’t require a lot of blending to look good, like Kanebo Sensai Fluid Finish (my HG) or Guerlain Parure Aqua. On the eyes I’ll use a cream shadow and/or some brown eyeliner and mascara. Then a bit of NARS Sex Appeal or Benefit Sugarbomb (the easiest blushes to wear and blend in my collection) and a sheer lipstick like Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Evasion or a Dior Serum de Rouge.
Urban Decay darkhorse all over the lid and blended out with hustle in the crease. As higlighter on the brow bone i take virgin. Black mascara, black kajal on waterline and a fine line ud perversion under water line and clinique loose powder on my face. For lipstick, whatever i want. Blush, only if i have time for it.
For eyes, cream shadows and cream shadow pencils are the easiest thing for me when I’m in a rush. UD’s shadow pencils, NYX or LA Colors jumbo eye pencils are my go-to cream shadows. They’re just so easy to apply, practically foolproof, and you can blend out with your fingers and don’t need to be so precise, but you can still get a nice look in a short time. As for colours, most often I’ll use UD Sin and Rehab together, LA Colors I use a dab of Sunkissed on the inner lid, Sand Castles on the middle lid, and Relaxation on the outer lid, then blend together for a simple but effective eye look, then add a little mascara.
MAC Studio Fix powder for face is a good quick fix for foundation. For lips, a soft creme lipstick will do the trick, I carry a few in my bag with me.
I choose among Maybelline Bad to the Bronze, Benefit Birthday Suit or MAC Painterly for a quick swipe on my lids, some pencil liner (back or Gosh Metallic Brass) smudged quickly, some concealer, mineral powder or Marcelle BB cream (both have SPF), MAC Dainty blush and Plumful lipstick. Done!
I use either foundation or tinted moisturizer (depending on how good or bad my skin is on that day), concealer, translucent powder, blush (don’t have a specific color that I go to), curl my lashes, mascara, fill in brows with either Anastasia brow pencil in Strawburn or Mac Wedge shadow, brow gel, & something on the lip (lately my go to quick lip has been Revlon Just Bitten in Honey).
When I am in a rush I just keep it basic.
I fill in my browa with Anastasia brow pencil in Medium ash.
Liquid eyeliner: L’Oreal carbon intense
Mascara: Tarte Amazonian clay something
Blush: whatever I can reach for something like theBalmnor MAC
and Jack black lip balm and done. I usually skip foundation. I just go bare face with my acne scars and all.
In less than 10 minutes, I can put a look together and get out the door quickly, if needed. I use Nars tinted moisturizer just to even my skin, Mac select cover up concealer to brighten under the eyes, a bit of powder to set (whatever is in front of me at the moment, I have way too many!! :P), and Mac brow tint to give them a bit of polish. On the eyes, a quick swipe of Groundwork paint pot over the lid, Painterly under the brow, and teddy eye kohl as liner, all from Mac. Throw on some mascara, a little Melba blush (Mac, again) and my everyday lipstick, Dior addict in 214 over the lips. A simple, but polished look that I love. ;D
I do my foundation, concealer, powder, and eyebrows as usual. then with lancome artliner in noir i do cat liner. lancome hypnose drama mascara. whatever blush i’m loving at the moment, right now its chanel rose ecrin. mac hue lipstick
I’ve been using the Tokidoki Lion Pappa palette. Matte brown on the lid, cream highlighter, and the deep brown smudged on the lash line. If I’m not super rushed I’ll apply the gold on my lower lash line. Tarte mascara. The blush in the Lion Pappa palette is is an orangey peachy pink and I can go as light or heavy as I like. It’s a gorgeous blush with shimmer that is less noticeable on the cheeks even though it almost looks glittery in the pan. The cream eyeshadow also works as a cheek highlighter if you’re in a rush, and you can use a tiny bit of the matte brown shadow as a contour. It’s so useful and, best of all, TINY! It would fit in my wallet. If I have to fill in my brows I use the e.l.f studio brow duo.
I have bad acne (for my age) but I try to let it breathe on lazy makeup days. I’ll use a little bit of powder at most to make it less distracting.
Any Chanel JC blush with a pretty lipstick ( either Chanel too or M.A.C or whatever ). For example Chanel Rose Initiale + Chanel Charme, a combination that’s easy to apply and easy to wear. I avoid red lipsticks and eye makeup, both need a little time whereas the combination above really needs 5 mn !
Nars or Armani Foundation, Armani Blush No 5, Painterly Paint Pot, Armani Eyes to Kill Silk No 9, Mascara and Nars Orgasm lipstick.
Upps, replace lipstick with lipgloss. I don’t own the lipstick in that color.
No makeup, most likely. I would much rather go bare-faced opposed to slapping on a few products and looking crazy. Makeup is a luxury for me. I am never obligated to wear it. It always looks best correctly applied.
I just conceal my problem areas with Bourjois Healthy Mix Concealer and set it with Rimmel’s Stay Matte pressed powder. For eyeshadow I usually opt for a neutral/rosy shimmer all across the lid, line my top lashline with black eyeshadow and finish off with a couple of coats of mascara. My blush of choice is Sleek’s Pomegranate and my in-a-hurry lip product is usually Revlon’s Kissable Balm Stain in Honey.
Less than 5 minutes: Bare Minerals Foundation, then one of my Clinique Quick Eyes Eyeshadows (sadly I’m almost out of all of them!), Maybelline Great Lash Mascara
If i’m really short of time and not going anywhere special i just won’t bother with makeup at all. If i’m going somewhere where I need makeup I’ll opt for a powder foundation, one eyeshadow such as MAC Mylar that will even out the whole eyelid making it look cleaner, mascara, and a MLBB lipstick.
If I’m really short on time, I’ll usually just skip makeup. My sunscreen has a little bit of coverage and I have nice skin anyway, so I don’t really need it. If I have a little bit of time or I really want to be wearing makeup, I’ll either put some pale cream shadow all over my lids or put on some cream blush.
Curl my eyelashes, clear mascara, concealer under my eyes, concealer and cover stick for redness/blemishes, powder, and UD Glide-On Cheek Tint in Quickie on the apples of my cheeks. And sometimes UD Perversion to tightline if I have time.
Usually I’ll do an Urban Decay or similar colored eyeliner on top, a dark brown or black liner on bottom, an awesome mascara (currently Chanel Le Volume) and any lipstick that doesn’t look awful when applied quickly (ie: Tarte lipsurgence, nude lipsticks or light-medium neutral pink lipsticks). No foundation/blush/eyeshadow, because usually I’m already 15 minutes late- but a lot of times, I’ll go out with no makeup on at all if I’m super hurried.
Well one easy look: Chanel lip liner lilirose or Jordana lip liner Rust, Chanel Rouge Coco Legende, Chanel blush Rose Initiale, Mascara lash queen feline extravaganza on eyelashes, and concelear on my undereye dark circles.
Or: Jordana lip liner Rust, Ysl Rouge Volupte Caress Pink, Ysl gel blush Carmin lightly applied, mascara lash queen feline extravaganza, same concelear lol.
Jordana lip liner Rust or lip liner Chanel Lilirose, Chanel Rouge Coco Mademoiselle, Chanel blush In love, Mascara lash queen feline extravaganza, concelear on dark circles.
Three very basic looks of mine.
I used my Bare Escentuals foundation kit with a hint of bronzer on my cheeks, then line my eyes with Sephora kohl eyeliner and put on some lipbalm to make them plump and kissable!
I don’t like to wear a ton of makeup everday, I keep it casual.
This look honestly takes two minutes and I think it looks really nice. I use dr. Jarts bb cream after moisturizing. So my skin looks nice and refreshed. Then I put on lots of black mascara and a pink or red lip. I usually just use a lip balm or stain. And that’s it.
If I am really short on time. Slap some moisturizer with SPF on my face and neck. Concealer on trouble spots. Curl my lashes and apply mascara. Add a red lipgloss. Grab my sunglasses and I am good to go.
If I had a bit more time, I would put on my face shop bb cream because it has SPF. I don’t wear blush normally because I blush easily and my face always gets red. The hubby always have a bad habit of teasing me or saying something that makes my face goes up in flames. I usually keep my brows groomed and clean and they require little maintenance. But very important, brows are so under appreciated but can make or break a look.
This is me every morning. I refuse to get up any earlier then I have to (4:15-4:20am). I have the five minute face down to a science:
Naked Foundation (Urban Deccay)
Too Faced Chocolate Bronzer in Milk Chocolate (Urban Decay)
Blush (Varies)
Senna Eyebrow Trio (Senna Cosmetics)
Curl Lashes
Mascara (Varies)
I don’t bother with my lips. I have my chapstick throughout the day. I drink a lot of coffee/soda/water throughout the day, there is no point. But this is my “Bare Essential” make up routine.
I apply Smashbox BB Cream with my fingers; dab concealer where needed; navy blue eyeliner (instead of black so as to give a little pop); mascara; blush; lip gloss. Voila! 🙂
MAC Glear Brow Gel
MAC Plum Full or Cyndi Lauper Viva Glam Lipgloss
MAC StudioFix Powder Foundation
My five minute face: smashbox bb creme with my fingers, a dark blue eyeliner on upper and lower eyelid smudged, Mac modern mandarin on cheeks, and random gloss on lips. I work at a hospital and have to go into work around 5 in the morning so this is my usual 🙂
IMO, blush, mascara and a little something on the lips is all you need.
My favorite five-minute look is a taupe or gray eyeshadow from theBalm’s Nude ‘Tude palette, either worn all over the lid or as an eyeliner; a bit of blush; and a berry or nude lipgloss. Alternatively, I’ll do my lips and not my eyes: I like leaving my face bare except for a bright lipstick (and a swipe of mascara if I have time).
My 5-minute makeup look is simple, clean, and a little sparkly. I reach for Hourglass Illusion tinted moisturizer and slap it on. While it sets, I quickly apply Lorac Behind the Scenes eye primer and a Chanel Illusion D’Ombre. Usually it’s Emereville or Illusoire, but sometime Epatant. I curl my lashes quickly and then apply Diorshow or Laura Mercier Full Blown; I find dryer formulas give enough impact without getting gloopy or clumpy, so I don’t have to apply with as much precision.
Then I’ll go back and spot conceal with Hourglass Hidden concealer wherever I need it. A swipe of a Dior Addict Lipstick (usually Cherie Bow or Plaza) or Chanel Extrait de Gloss in Insolence, and I’m out the door!
I often focus on lips when I’m short on time. I throw on tinted moisturiser (a mix of whatever moisturiser I’m using and Studio Fix Fluid) or Face & Body foundation, and apply with my fingers, building the coverage up on any areas that need it. Select Moisturecover under the eyes, and Too Faced Shadow Insurance on lids, followed by MSFN or a very neutral eyeshadow to set. I groom brows, filling them in with a brow powder. Then lipstick, something like Viva Glam Nicki or a NYX Soft Matte lip creme in something bright. Then I go for blush, whatever will harmonise with the lipstick.
If I dont even have time for THAT, I do base (same as above) brows, and blush, and whatever lipgloss is in my bag!
If I’m in a rush I go for a tinted moisturizer with SPF (currently loving TheBalm Balm Shelter) a blush that has some shimmer so it kind of has a built in highlight, brown pencil, mascara, and a bright red lip (Usually MAC russian red) I always feel finished with a red lip!
If I have a tiny bit more time I will use my finger to apply a cream eyeshadow like a mac paint pot or a bareMinerals prime time shadow.
Concealer, blush, red lipstick. Done!
When I’m short on time, I use YSL Teint Parfait to even out my complexion and make it less red and more luminous. Next I use blush, either cream or powder to give life to my skin and lip gloss or the new YSL Shine lipsticks. They are like a more moist lipstick. Lots of pretty colors at their website YSL Beaute. After this, I groom my brows and add a little pencil, then I’m off……..
Typically , I will just do one shade on the lid if I am short for time. Even quicker, I will just do eyeliner and mascara.
I just throw on some Maybeline bb cream, fill in my brows with Mac mystery eyeshadow, whatever the mascara is I’m using at the moment (right now it’s Laura Mercier Full Blown mascara) black eye liner on the lower lash line and nars Turkish delight lip gloss.
I use Chanel foundation and a red lipstick. Nothing more. I maintain my skin all year through with Vitamin C and a moisturizer.
My quick make-up is the same as my work make-up: Foundation (Burberry Velvet) or BB Cream (Smashbox), concealer (MAC) on my spots, sheer powder (Chanel), blush (i love Mac easy manner, It’s one of my best buys in 2012), Mascara and lip balm (for work) or lip stick (private).
If I’m really in a hurry, I’ll skip my Bobbi Brown BB cream, and just brush on Laura Geller Balance & brighten. Eyebrow pencil, a cream eyeshadow (Benefit Skinny Jeans or Smashbox Stone will go with any outfit), Trish McEvoy gel eyeliner pencil on my upper rim, mascara and lip gloss to coordinate with my eyeshadow.
My quick make up is a three step process: foundation (MUFE F&B or Sephora Microsmooth powder), blush, and lip gloss. If I’m really short on time, I skip the foundation and instead apply a little primer to my cheeks along with blush and then gloss.
When I’m short on time,I still apply my foundation and concealer as usual, because I want a good “canvas,” no matter what. And I apply the most flattering blush I own (MAC “Tippy,” from Hello, Kitty, because it never fails to get me compliments on my “pretty skin”. I do what I call “Idiot Eyes,” consisting of a long-wearing cream shadow (UD Mushroom) in a neutral color, all over the lid and into creases(no primer or brushes needed), a deep plum pencil liner on upper lids only, black mascara on upper lashes, shimmery rose/pink lip gloss, and translucent powder on my T-zone. It takes 10-15 minutes.
I curl my lashes and put on mascara (Lancome, Hypnose Doll Eyes WP), even out my face with a bit of BB cream and I put on a little pink blush (MAC Stunner). When I’m less short on time I use a red lipstick (MAC Ruby Woo) and when I’m really short on time I use a red gloss. (Estée Lauder Cranberry) Maybe sometimes a pink gloss, like Chanel Extrait de Gloss in Imaginaire.
I always opt for neutral/natural. For me it’s a no fuss go-to look that’s easy to do. Primer, foundation, powder, bronzer, blush, e/s primer, brows, e/s cream, e/s (2 colours – lid and crease), mascara and lipgloss or lipstick.
My 5 minute look: Smashbox BB cream topped with concealer on blemishes, undereye concealer and some Smashbox Halo powder. Add in a blush, curl eyelashes, a generous coat of mascara and done! Sometimes I do add a cream shadow or a single shadow on my lids, but not always.
Eyebrows, always the brows. Without those, I look like a plain paper bag. Then maybe some gloss or a tint on the lips and I’m good to go. Being seen without eyebrows is a major no-no for me.
i don’t use any liquidfoundation, just concealer to cover up the “worst” areas.
then powder, and blush.
fill in my eyebrows (otherwise i look like and alien), eyeliner and mascara.
sounds like a lot, but it takes me ten minutes if i’m in a rush.
