Haul: I grabbed the ABH Norvina palette this week while Sephora had the (another?!) sale… I had swatched it in store a few weeks before and put it in my catalog to grab at an opportune moment and I’m really glad I did! I like the shimmer formula so much better in this palette than the Soft Glam palette. I also think the neutrals are unique in this one.

Rediscoveries: I had put down my L’Oreal Glotion for a couple of months in favor of the Pixi Rose Balm, but recently picked it up again. It’s so good. I also started using the FAB Coconut Smoothie Priming Moisturizer again and love it so much. The scent is so nice: it smells like Smarties candy to me.

Weekend plans: Doing ornament crafts with my little boy for Christmas gifts and maybe(?) starting to wrap some Christmas gifts… oh and lots of crocheting… I got the idea to make everyone blankets for Christmas this year and I’m in over my head. No rest for the wicked!

Are you a daredevil?: Not really? I do like rollercoasters and that sort of thing and I’ve always kind of wanted to go skydiving, but I don’t know if I’d ever get the gumption up to actually do it.

Celesta Avatar

Oh and some more haul things: I grabbed the MUFE Starlit powder and glitter kit from Sephora too, since it was on sale (and I love the starlit powders, they’re not talked about enough), a couple of tops from Lane Bryant (I’ve been loving what they’re coming out with lately! They’re way over priced, but always seem to have some sort of sale going on, and they have really good quality items), and a Creamy Lip Stain from theBalm.

I HIGHLY recommend you try skydiving at least once. It was such an amazing experience. My dad was a pro skydiver back in the 70s/80s, and he paid for me to do it for my 18th birthday. It’s too expensive for me to do it again (and eventually I’d have to jump by myself – eek!), but I don’t regret it for even a second. It seemed scary, and that moment when you’re at the door of the plane and you look down is a real “OH SH*T” moment, but free fall is such a thrill and the time you spend in the sky with the chute open looking down at the world below you is gorgeous. Plus, you’re strapped to someone who actually knows what they’re doing, and they pull the chute and everything. You’re really just along for the ride.

Deborah S. Avatar

WOW MacKenzie, I am impressed you went skydiving. The way you tell it it sounds amazing. Maybe when I was younger I might have tried it but somewhere along the line, probably when a young nurse I worked with took a lesson with a pro and their tandem parachutes didn’t open, I lost the urge to try it and now I pretty much have the philosophy, “Why jump out of a perfectly good airplane?”
I still think if I was younger I might have a go at it. I was pretty brave when I was younger. I was the one in my family who went on all the death defying carnival rides, drove the freeways in Los Angeles, white water rafting, etc. I also swam a lot in the ocean which can be a little scary sometimes what with riptides, jelly fish, sharks, and all manner of things swimming around you. Now that I am in my 60’s and suffer from Vestibular Migraines, just walking across the floor is perilous sometimes!!
I am impressed though that you did it and glad that it was such an amazing experience for you.

Yes, my senior pup plays the same way! 🙂 He once threw his rope toy so high it landed on our glass dining room table. I found him standing underneath staring up through the glass, not understanding why he could see his toy, but not reach it!

Haul: On our recent trip to Orlando, I went to the exclusive Guerlain boutique in Epcot and left with two new lipsticks (as if I need more lipstick!). I bought KissKiss in the adorably-named shade Rosy Boop (I’d categorize this shade as “MLBS”—My Lips But Sparkly). And, as luck would have it, La Petite Robe Noire lipsticks were on sale for half price! So, after spending time alternating between swatching the different shades and checking Temptalia ratings on my phone (thank you, Christine), I settled on the shade Plum-Brella. My original plan for this store was to buy Guerlain’s Aqua Allegoria Herba Fresca perfume, but after trying it on, I didn’t feel it agreed with my chemistry. But it wasn’t “money saved,” because by the end of our trip I spent the money I had originally allotted for the perfume (plus a bit more) on a beautiful new D&B bag!

Unintentional Anti-Haul: I wanted to add this section in because while I was in Orlando, I went to the huge Sephora in Disney Springs. I was equipped with a $25 gift certificate, a coupon for 20% off a $75 purchase, and I’m about $100 away from becoming Rouge. I browsed and browsed and browsed, but couldn’t find anything I wanted!!! The horrible realization struck me that I have everything I need. I even have enough backups of my favorite makeup and skincare products that I’m set for at least a year! I left the store dazed and empty-handed. Now I have five more days to use that 20% coupon and I don’t know what to do with it. Splurge on Guerlain Meteorite Pearls, maybe?

Weekend Plans: Chores, family visit, volunteering

Are You a Daredevil? Nope. Not at all. (Though I sometimes feel like a daredevil while driving during rush hour every day.)

Haul/Rediscoveries:
Dollskill: Order 2
Detroit boots that are 3.5″ platforms. 😉
I also order Sugarpills Obscura and Petrol Lipstick but the Petrol shade wasn’t in the box so I got store credit. 😛

McCall’s Patterns, 2 orders of them 😉

Fabric Wholesale Direct: Lots of twill fabric, and samples.

Arda Wigs Canada: Pure White and Magenta wigs.

Weekend plans: Work…

Are you a daredevil?: Naw… I like to know about things first and be prepared.

PJ Avatar

Oh Christine, you picked up the Suqqu brush set too? I’d be curious to hear what you think of it. I wasn’t too impressed with mine when I received it and I’m wondering if it’s my goat hair bias or whether it’s actually not as good quality as others were also expecting.

Haul: Pat McGrath Bronze Temptation palette (25% off), also all of my Black Friday shopping has been trickling in, Colourpop really has done an amazing job with their Lux lipstick formula. Tiana & the Brown Sugar (Cinnamon, Chocloatier, & Brick) lipsticks have become fast favorites.

Weekend Plans: I’m working tonight. Tomorrow, I will hit the studio, maybe go view an apartment with my mom (I really like it but she’s nervous b/c I’d be moving from the county to the city – it’s St. Louis, everywhere is dangerous, lol, so I want to show her there’s nothing to be overly worried about – she’s a mom so she will always worry). After that I will babysit my nephew, and Sunday I will visit my grandparents.

Are you a daredevil: yes & no. I do love roller coasters. I love pole and some of the tricks in pole require a lot of guts b/c it’s scary being upside down and holding on with just your ankles while spinning. But I don’t like haunted houses, I don’t want to go exploring caves and grave sites, so in things that are not fitness related or roller coaster related, absolutely not, lol.

Tracey E. Avatar

I also recently bought the Bronze Temptation palette and when I opened it, it took my breath away. So pleased with this purchase. Hope you love it, too!

Awwww! That he is still so playful and joyful is a good sign! My cats are 11 ½ and almost 14. Both still play hard! But Scunci (14 y.o. Maine Coon) has begun to slow down significantly this past year. ?

Haul: Everything I ordered finally arrived this week. Including my Coloured Raine Queen Of Hearts palette that went on a misrouting adventure to Florida AFTER arriving at the Phoenix processing facility! I’ve been using it for the past 2 days. Beautiful colors! Oh, and yesterday, I hit the local MAC store for PatrickStarrr. Bought: Slay Ride lipstick (phenomenal shade of red!), Twerk For Gifts Dazzleglass, PatrickStarrr Pigment and the infamous Patrick Powder…which leads to the newest scandal. This is HALF the amount for $5 MORE than last year’s, and MAC is being called out over this. Especially since they have made it known that it will be made permanent next year with a probable name change. Set Powder IS already part of the permanent line, just not in that particular shade.
And then there was the purchase last Friday night of ND Darya palette at our local madhouse Sephora. SA gave me Citrus instead, without my realizing it until yesterday, because when I went use it last Saturday, the glittery highlighter in the lower left hand side had exploded within the palette! First had my heart drop as I pulled it out of the box as I saw bronzy rose-gold spots on the palette. When I opened it (very carefully and slowly), it was all over. So bad that I didn’t even notice the bright yellow highlight in there, I was so upset. When I returned it yesterday, the cashier messed up my return. Badly. Lost my $25 coupon because she failed to point out that because I bought it in-store and that they did not have another replacement, an even exchange for a new one wasn’t going to be so easy. Plus, my $ *still* isn’t showing up as a pending transaction?!?

Weekend plans: I have no idea! Other than listening in to my meeting on Sunday, I have nothing planned whatsoever. But, I really should paint my nails! They look so blah and neglected.

Are you a daredevil? Hmm. Not intentionally! Sometimes a bit so unthinkingly. Like, climbing up shelves to get something out of reach at Walmart. Or jaywalking across the street to grab the new 68th Street Trolley, because the lights are way too far away. Ah, the joys of being a non-driver. ?

Kate Avatar

We call one of our cats our “big kitten”. He’s almost ten but he still gets super playful as soon as he sees toys. And by “toys” I mean anything that could possibly be used for the purpose of playing. He even still has a “kitten face”, as in, he looks much the same as he did when he was a baby, just bigger.

I didn’t pick up anything this week other than a replacement concealer (Marcelle) but I’m still having a lot of fun playing with the Pat McGrath Dark Star palette I picked up a couple of weeks back. I have to restrain myself from buying every single one of the MTHRSHP palettes now, because I want them all. I got Marc Jacobs’ Glam Jam eyeliner with the same order and am amazed at how great it is.

CeeBee Avatar

Haul: Marc Jacobs mini liquid lip crayon set as a gift for my mothers birthday and Sephora NZ finally stocks Pat McGrath so I ordered Platinum Bronze ($96!!!) and I’m making a list for lipsticks – if anyone has any Luxe or Mattetrance recommendations, let me know! They’re nearly $70 a pop and I can’t test them in person so any help would be appreciated! I tend to favour rose, mauve, tawny corals and muted reds but I also love a good pop of pink… My fortieth birthday is in January so I’m going to splurge! 😉

Weekend plans: Virtually nothing. Except obsessively research PmG lipstick shades of course…

Am I a daredevil?: Not in the slightest.

Haul:
Ulta: Butter London Glazen Oil Slick, Spark, Moonshine and Frosted. Bare Minerals Nature Of Nudes palette, BareMinerals Gen Nude Radiant Lipstick’s in Panko and Love, Tula Cleanser (back up), Soap and Glory The Fab Pore Skin Smoothing Face Mask and a roller ball of the new Ariana Grande perfume for my daughter.

Sephora: All of the Marc Jacobs See-Quinns and an additional Copperazi and Topaz for my daughter. I also picked up samples of the Too Faced Peach Perfect foundation to try.

YesStyle: The Face Shop Prism Cube E/S by Italy in the shades PK01 Sugar Flower, BR02 Smoke Rose, BE01 Apricot Beige, GD02 Antique Bell, PK03 Rasberry Ade, BR01 Rose Wood, PK02 Toe Shoe Pink, CR01 Baby Coral, BR05 Bitter Chocolate, BR04 Sunshine Hug, GD01 Golden Sand, Sanzo Mini Paper Cutter and Beauty Artisan Cotton Pads. They included a makeup grab bag for free as I just went to Gold Elite Member status.

Walgreen’s: All of the Wet and Wild Highlighters. I got them for my daughter.

Fudejapan: Kanebo Milano Face Collection for 2019, Dr. Jart Cicapair Calming Facial Mist, Laduree Cosmetic Pouch, To/One E/S in a green/gold/beige shade and a lipstick that doesn’t have a name or number but is a medium berry (just like the other 100 berry lipsticks I own!)

Weekend Plans: Not much. I continue to be helping my brother after his surgery. He has never had any major surgery and felt that this would be a breeze even though I told him it was going to be tough. I think right about now he is wishing he had lived with the hip pain a while longer. Also, I am a bit of a slave driver when it comes to postoperative care and he thinks I am being too hard on him but anyone in any part of medicine knows that you need to get up and walk, sit up for awhile, do the exercises the Dr. ordered, use your Incentive Spirometer and take your medications. He will thank me down the road but I think that time is not going to be any time soon, LOL!

Risk taker: Absolutely not, no, never!! I am probably the exact opposite of a risk taker. I wish that I had been more of a risk taker when I was younger but at my age, slow and steady wins the race. I think that following any potentially life threatening illness you either see your life as a chance to go out there and do all those bucket list, crazy things you always planned to do but never did or you become even more reserved when it comes to risk and you want to make sure that you don’t squander the life you have been given. I think I live in the second option but there is an argument to be made for the other option.

Nancy T Avatar

Oh dear…the dreaded Incentive Spirometer! After having managed to pull through that very major abdominal surgery 9 years back, the night nurse was a “traveling” (or was it visiting?) nurse. I gave that poor woman such a difficult time with that Spirometer! It was a PITA to remember to take time to use it. And she rode me when it came to that, lol! What finally motivated me to be more compliant? When she told me that she didn’t want to see me develop a pneumonia, because that would be very poor prognosis for me in that condition. I began to use it religiously. Hopefully, your brother will likewise listen to you! ❤️

Deborah S. Avatar

HAHA, Nancy. I was one of those PITA nurses!! Yes, they are called traveling nurses or sometimes contract nurses. Visiting nurses are the ones that come to your home after you are discharged to check on you. I taught pre-surgery classes to patients and always covered Incentive Spirometry, how it works, how to do it properly and the benefits. I would always tell patients not to do all ten times at the same time or it will make you light headed and that isn’t a pleasant feeling after surgery. I also told them to get in the habit of doing it a couple of times during commercial breaks on the TV as that was something they could count on happening and would get their reps in on a regular basis.
Following my mastectomy and reconstruction I took my IS home with me and can honestly say I noticed when I used it and when I didn’t.
My brother will thank me in the end when he if fully recuperated.

Haul: Nothing yet, I’m might buy something at Sephora. I’m so close to getting my rouge on again.

Rediscoveries: Noting so far; I’ve really been enjoying my new DE products Protini and C-Tango

Weekend Plans: Well I was supposed to be having a house party with friends and having a whole bunch of guests stay over. After months of planning all the people staying here, some for as long as a month, canceled. I’m so angry I could spit. Party will still be happening, just with way fewer people. Luckily, I only bought half the food. So I’m still cleaning and cooking like a mad woman.

I used to be a daredevil as a kid/teen/young adult! I’m too fragile now. Also, every professional risk has blown up in my face, never due to me but just life shitting on me. I’m not much of a risk taker anymore.

My kitties definitely are not as playful as they were when younger. We had a mouse and it was no, hum, I am napping. But at least they are here.

Haul: I used my $25 off at Sephora to finally buy KGD Aqua Foundation. I think I am in love except I definitely need concealer with it and what I have is the wrong color. But no more purchases in 2018!

From Nordstrom, a tube of RevitaBrow, and from Ulta, a Lancôme Mr. Big mini mascara and some body lotion that cost 99 cents after the $10 coupon.

Weekend plans: dinner and a movie with friends and the usual chores

Am I a daredevil? In a word, no.

Maggie Avatar

Haul: Colour pop Dreamaholic lip gloss and restocked on milk makeup foundation, drunk elephant peekee soap, and bareminerals gel complexion.

Weekend Plans: library books, get a cookbook, and haul donations out! Clean, tidy and organize!

Daredevil? Hmmm…not really? I mean, I’m avoiding learning how to roller blade in order to ice skate BC I don’t want to twist an ankle despite a friend’s urging. However, on second thought, I did actually drive a go-kart (one-seat car with no seatbelts, barely a frame, and no airbag) around the streets of Tokyo Japan as part of a Mario Kart evening tour around this time last year. I didn’t even stop to think that I could easily fly out of the car as soon as I hit a nasty pothole before I signed up. (coming from the girl who normally drives trucks bc she believes driving a delicate economy car in highly trafficked areas at high speeds is a disaster waiting to happen). Once I realized this, I just drove carefully. Tokyo is not a bad city to do this: the roads are well kept, the Japanese obey traffic laws, and they like Luigi. Plus, I was quite visible BC there was a whole bunch of us.

But seriously, that was probably the most daring thing I’ve done in a decade: and it wasn’t even the daring rush I was looking for. I don’t really see going on rollercoasters as daring. But riding motorbikes? During rush hour? No way.

Haul/ Rediscoveries:
Haul – nothing this week.
Rediscoveries: My Dior Bonne Etoile by Dior has found favour this week as well as Naked 2 – both of them are such great eyeshadow palettes.

Weekend Plans:
Friday – it was the first really hot day we have had this season and we had Lachlan over whilst his sister was at kinder and it was an indoor kind of day.
Saturday – we are having both our grandchildren today as their parents are going to a wedding. At least the weather has cooled down a bit and we will go to the park later on in the day. We are going to put up the Christmas tree too.
Sunday – I am heading off to a Scandinavian Christmas market at a Swedish Church on Sunday morning. It promises to have Nordic Christmas decorations and crafts, with Scandinavian food, music and activities for children. The weather will be kinder and I am looking forward to it.

Daredevil? – No I am not at all. I am not fond of taking risks in any way, shape or form.

Haul: The Bobbi Brown Starlight Crystal palette from Cos Bar, gorgeous. Just stunning! Also some tarte lip Sculptor (the dual ended) lipsticks, just love the formula. Tried a Smashbox Metallic lip gloss that is supposed to be long lasting but it felt drying fast. New discovery: The garnier Micellar Makeup Remover: better than Bobbi Brown and a fraction of the price. No scrubbing at all. Just press and the makeup is gone! Returning to oldies: my Elizabeth Arden Ceramide capsules were calling to me and I started using them again. Feels great. Lastly, got a new Glo Micro Needle roller tool that I am afraid to use. The needles are SO big.

Weekend: assembling some furniture for my son’s room, making some earrings.

Daredevil: not even, life is scary enough.

Brenda C Avatar

Amy, I would like to know how that Glo roller works for you. I have that on my list of wants. I just have a regular one and I love how my skin looks from using it. It hurts a little when I use it under my chin but everywhere else is pretty toughened up.

ShariP Avatar

Pets…we have a 23 year old Maine Coon cat, but she doesn’t play much now. She prefers her “daddy” to pet and coo to her while she’s in her bed, lol, and she howls if he isnt paying attention to her. When she was younger she was a lot of entertainment. ?

Haul….I got several MAC eyeshadows when ULTA had them on sale. Just filling in the basics of my collection. Seraphine’s comment about not needing anything and leaving Sephora empty handed struck a chord with me….that’s a real horror, lol.

Weekend…I’m going to work part of the day tomorrow to make up my time from last week when hubby was in hospital. He totaled his Harley Davidson in August and has had multiple readmissions for complications. In a couple weeks we go to Cleveland Clinic, a large medical center a few hours away, in hopes of saving his foot. Right now there’s a good chance he’ll have to have a below knee amputation ?

Daredevil….not in the least. I’m a terrible worrier about everything and everyone. Don’t like rollercoasters, anything that raises my adrenaline and now I don’t like motorcycle rides either.

Tracey E. Avatar

Hi Shari, I’m so sorry that you and your husband are facing such difficult medical decisions. I hope the Cleveland Clinic brings good news.

Brenda C Avatar

It’s nice to have a healthy pet you’re lucky, my daughter’s dog is 7 and he’s a ball of energy.

Haul/Rediscoveries: I had to make a trip back to the mall today because a store did not take the security tags off my purchases so it necessitated a return trip. Which took me right by Sephora, being the makeup addict that I am I just couldn’t walk by without a walk through, why do I do this to myself? I picked up the last two colours of the Marc Jacobs Glitter Gel eyeliners, Kat Von D Fetish Blush and Highlighter Palette (like I really needed this!), then lastly Olehenriksen Power Peel Transforming Facial System (I do need this).

Weekend Plans: My kids are taking me out for my Birthday on Saturday night. My husband was supposed to be home on Monday night. He has broken down twice and he just finally got back on the road now and should be home around 2 in the morning. I told him it was kind of like the movie with John Candy, Trains, Planes and Automobiles, a 3 day drive has taken him 7 days.

Are you a daredevil?: I was the only one that would go on the roller coasters and other scary rides with my daughter, everyone else chickened out. If I could do my life over I would be a race car driver. My husband is a car dealer and he bought me a very fast sports car. I love it! Roof down, open road, only the red and blue lights in my rear view mirror kill the joy.

Tracey E. Avatar

Mellan is so playful. can’t believe he’s 11 years old!

Haul: Bobbi Brown Matte Luxe Lipstick in Crown Jewel and Luxe Liquid Velvet Matte in Starlet Scarlet (best applied with a lip brush); jewelry from a local artisan.

Weekend Plans: Shopping for “wishes” from a Giving Tree, finish items on my to do list, and general cleanup of the livingroom and diningroom.

Am I a daredevil?: Not really, though I’m not cautious either.

Alecto Avatar

Haul/Rediscoveries: I don’t think I’ve responded to this in a couple weeks. For haul I got the ColourPop Chasing Rainbows palette as well as a bunch of other things — Bit O’ Sunny blotted lip (curious about the formula); Check Please, Liquid Courage, Still Crazy lipsticks; Hallucinogenius, Bubble Bee, Let Me Pass, and I Like You eye shadows; Guilty Pleasure and Between the Sheets for face, as well as the Fair 05W and 25W foundation stix. The latter don’t work for me at all as a main base layer, but they’re brilliant as touch-up and concealer products over my IT Cosmetics foundation blend — the area around my nose and mouth has never looked this flawless, and I can very easily create the illusion with them of no nasolabial folds (mine are very minor) or hollows under the corners of my mouth; a $16 facelift! (that washes off)

I’ve been using a lot of my newer makeup recently, so I think the only rediscovery I’ve had is the Body Shop body butter that I Frankensteined out of 3 or 4 different scents/varieties. I’m still in my “using up excess skincare products” phase, and this came up next on the rotation; I had forgotten how effective a moisturizer this stuff is (my skin is supple again!), and it’s exactly the right time of year for this level of moisturization, I just wish the stuff wasn’t so overwhelmingly strong in scent.

Weekend plans: Haven’t decided. I did a little bit of office work this morning, and will likely do more tomorrow, but what I’d really like to spend most of my weekend doing is reading — I love to read and I feel like I’ve been too busy for that for … months! … if not longer.

Are you a daredevil?: Not really, if you mean the kind of person who makes a point of living dangerously. I don’t seek out thrills or dangerous activities, but I don’t avoid them either. I’m pretty lazy, so I don’t go out of my way to try things, but I have, in the past, rappelled (upside down, through windows, off overhangs); traveled in foreign countries alone;, threw a few days worth of stuff in a car and just drove without any plans or ideas (even sleeping in the car or in a hide, on the ground, off the road where I couldn’t be seen); rode a dirt bike (I eventually got pretty decent at it, but in the beginning, on a whim, I took my sister’s place in an off-road race — she had a year’s training from a professional and I barely knew the difference between the clutch and front brake, but when she backed out of the race I said “eh … why not?” and took her place, then promptly crashed and took some other poor sucker out with me). I ride a road bike as my secondary vehicle in the winter and primary vehicle in spring/summer/fall, and while I’m aware of the danger and even know people who’ve suffered major injuries, it doesn’t deter me (for now — it’s perfectly possible I’ll eventually just leave it as no longer sensible); I *will* say that I try to be thoughtful in my riding approach, and definitely take lessons to heart (I used to ride on clear, sunny, dry-road days in the winter, but after dropping my bike on black ice, I’m more respecting of the intricacies of weather). If I’m not paying attention, I drive way too fast (I’ve caught myself doing over 90 on a deserted highway in the morning without thinking about it). If I were more energetic, motivated, and in better shape, I’d probably seek out difficult or dangerous activities, but I usually don’t end up doing stuff like that unless I’m invited along on some adventure; otherwise … I’m fine on the couch, in my super-fluffy socks, reading or watching a movie.
