What's your go-to drugstore brand?

What’s your go-to drugstore brand? What’s your must-have product from them?

I’d say Milani, because I like a lot of their products across the brand, not just one or two, you know? I also like Revlon and L’Oreal a lot for some products. Milani for lipsticks, eyeliners, pressed eyeshadows, and blush! Revlon for gloss and polish. L’Oreal for Infallible Eyeshadows and polish.

I don’t really have a go-to brand from the drugstore. The only thing I really ever purchase from the drugstore brands on a regular basis would be mascara and lip products. I like to layer mascara; I’m loving Maybelline Mega Plush WP, Rimmel Lash Accelerator, L’Oreal Voluminous and Voluminous Million Lashes Carbon Black formulas, and Maybelline Cat Eyes. Hah, no, I do not wear *all* of those at once, but I like Mega Plush as my first layer and Lash Accelerator as my final layer. For lip products, I’d have to say my favorite is Revlon.

Stephanie Avatar

Wet N Wild for Color Icon palettes and Megalast lipsticks, Maybelline for the Color Tattoos and Dream Fresh BB Cream (which, while not a BB cream, is the only tinted moisturizer I’ve tried that doesn’t make my skin greasy or break me out, and actually comes in a shade pale enough for my skin tone). Probably Sally Hansen for polish, especially the Complete Salon Manicure line. EcoTools brushes are nice too.

I don’t buy much drugstore makeup, but from what I do: Revlon for lip products, especially the kissable balm stains and lip butters; L’Oreal for the infallible eyeshadows; Maybelline for the Color Tattoo eyeshadows; Milani for eyeliners. So I guess it depends on what I’m looking for. I don’t have a standard “go to” brand, but I have products I collect from different brands.

xamyx Avatar

L’Oreal will *always* have a special place in my heart. I’ve strayed many times from Voluminous mascara & Lineur Intense, but I always come back, and have for over 20 years. Although I don’t always care for the eyeshadow quads, the singles & duos are amazing. At last count, I had over 70 lipsticks; now, if they’d only bring back the matte lippies… I do think they’ve gotten a bit stagnant over the last few years, but I’m hoping they’ll start bringing back more unique products again.

I also really like Revlon, especially for lipstick & nail polish, as I feel the eyeshadows are lacking.

Of course if Max Factor ever returned to the US, I would be sooo happy…

Christine85 Avatar

Revlon colorstay for my foundation and eyeliner. Maybelline Full and Soft waterproof for mascara and Color Tattoos. For lip products, it doesn’t matter as long as the quality and pigmentation is great! I own a variety of drugstore brand lip products. Too long to name lol

Tamara Avatar

i can only afford drugstore products for the most part
for lipstick Maybelline and Revlon dominate my collection but one of my favorite colors ever is from wet and wild i dont wear gloss much so no one for gloss

for lipliner Nyx for color Maybelline for their clear liner

for masscara Maybellines great lash soft black is great for everyday wear for very natural looking and not thin enough that it doesnt put little culmpy balls of gunk everywhere

for eye liner and shadow Nyx Prestige and Wet and Wild

i haven’t found a foundation or concealer i love yet as i want my skin to look like skin not foundation

lacezinc Avatar

I don’t use too many drugstore products…But I can’t really say there is one brand I like across the board. I never tend to like drugstore foundations, but I think that Maybelline does good mascaras and concealers, and Loreal does great eyeshadows.

Jeanne Avatar

Living in Australia, brands like L’Oreal, Maybelline, and Revlon are absurdly overpriced so I favour local drugstore brands like Australis and Face of Australia. My favourite product from Australis is their Makeup Finishing Spritz and my favourite Face of Australia product is their Liquid Eyeliner.

Paige Avatar

L’Oreal. For only 1 item though: the liquid concealer from the True Match line. It’s the only drugstore makeup item I have in my collection.

I used to buy and collected all the Lip Lites glosses from Bonne Belle. I love the variety in dessert scents! However, I found that they went on very unevenly on my lips so I stopped buying them.

Liz Avatar

L’oreal and Revlon.L’oreal for eye pencils, mascara, some blush, and I can even use the True Match foundation (though I prefer other brands). Revlon for nail polish and lip products.

Nicoco Chanel Avatar

Hm. Probably Sleek or FashionistA. Their products are generally really high quality and have sturdy packaging. Unfortunately, they’re not readily available where I currently live (then again, nothing is tbh. Half the time I’m lucky to find BarryM in a store), so it would probably be S&G if I needed anything, which is *slightly* closer. And maybe Lily Lolo if I ever get around to trying their products, but they’re not really DS – just in the price range.

Nicoco Chanel Avatar

Oh, products! Duh.

Sleek – eye palettes, blush, lippie.

Fashionista – custom palettes. I want to try their foundation and primer too. And mascara.

S&G – eye palettes. Eye primer. Felt tip eyeliner. Mascara. Lipgloss.

Mariella Avatar

Hmmm – it sort of depends on the product but I’ve had good luck with certain products from almost all the drugstore lines, including Wet n Wild, Maybelline, Revlon, L’Oreal and NYX (and others as well…Marcelle’s BB cream, for example). Like any cosmetics line, high end or low, there will be winners and real clinkers in any company’s offerings. The one thing I haven’t been able to find in a drugstore product is a good liquid foundation.

Patricia Souza Avatar

Christine have you used any drugstore mascara? If so, what do you recommend? I liked the Colossal by Maybelline but the rose smell kind of bothered me!

Wenz Avatar

Loreal- foundation, mascara, gel liner, Infallible shadows
Revlon- lip products, foundation & nail polish
But Milani is up there also I love their blushes, shadows, lipsticks & eyeliner pencil is one of my HGs)

KaseyCannuck Avatar

Maybelline for the Color Tattoo eyeshadows, Lash Stiletto and Full & Soft mascaras, and the BB cream, which is as close as I come to wearing a foundation. I agree with Stephanie that its only a tinted moisturizer, but it doesn’t leave an oily feel on my skin like some other brands do.

Yellowlantern Avatar

I’ve never had a brand that wows me in all categories (that goes for low and high end) so I can’t really say there is a single brand that would be a go-to for all kinds of products, but for each product category I have go-tos.

For face products: Physician’s Formula or Revlon. I’m pretty loyal to PF’s SPF 50 face powder I have yet to find any other SPF powder with such a high SPF rating that isn’t double the price of PF or more. Colorstay is also an awesome foundation and frankly one of the best I’ve ever used from the drugstore.

For eye products: Maybelline and Loreal. Both make great mascaras and Loreal has their Lineur Intense eyeliner which is good too.

For lip products: Revlon and Covergirl. Love Revlon’s Lip Butters and Love, love, love Covergirl’s Lip Perfection lipsticks (seriously, I love the LP formula I even prefer it over my $25 lipsticks. Now if only they’d come out with more colors!).

For nail products: Any brand but Revlon is a go-to for me. But my favorites are probably Wet n’ Wild and Hard Candy.

Manda Avatar

I go between Physician’s Formula, Maybelline, Revlon and CoverGirl. I think most drugstore companies are better for some items than others, so it really depends what I’m looking for!

Emilia Avatar

Lately Maybelline has really impressed me with the color tattoo eyeshadow’s, liquid eyeliner, and fit me collection which includes foundation, powder and concealer.I do prefer to wear high end brand foundation, I usually end up at some point buying a back up drugstore version, and I don’t like heavy drugstore foundation’s. Fit me foundation is perfect for this reason, it gives me good coverage but it’s not like Relvon Color Stay which is sticky. Although I have tried mascara’s I don’t prefer sending a lot of money on them or on lipgloss for that matter. These products become contaminated easily therefore I don’t keep them for more then 6 months or so. Thats why I buy drug store versions, and in my opinion many of L’Oreal’s mascara’s are just as comparable or even better then MAC, Lancome’s, Benefit to name a few higher end brands

Ani_BEE Avatar

Has to be Wet n Wild and Annevbelle for me.

None of the drugstore lines covers be in foundation (feel my love for that simple truth…) so I just don’t bother with the drug store on that point.

Heidi Avatar

I used to say either maybelline or revlon but I have recently switched to cruelty free and I have to say I’m loving NYX, Milani, and Hard candy. If I had to pick one over all I’d go with NYX for their lipgloss, eyeshadows, pigments, liners, shadow pencils and when I run out of foundation the it’s I’d the next I’m going to try.

Amber Avatar

I tend to favor L’oreal because they seem to be the only drugstore brand that recognizes those of us who are extremely fair skinned (meaning NC/NW 5-10)and I want to support companies that do not ignore us. I also really like their Voluminous mascara, Infallible eyeshadows and liquid eyeliner.

Melissa C Avatar

I too cannot pick just one line.
I like Revlon for foundation and lip products.
Wet and Wild for eyeshadows (there blushes are also great!)
Maybelline for my color tattoos.
L’oreal for the Infallible line – both the lipsticks and the eyeshadows.
I also agree that Milani also has standout blushes and eyeliners. I just wish their paler powders would be more available in store.
Cover Girl for mascara – I’m a Lashblast girl!

Cat G Avatar

Wet & Wild… but I don’t really have a go-to drug store brand, they all have certain products that are great and a bargain and certain products that disappoint.

Sara Avatar

I’m not sure I have a “go to” brand, but the one that I’ve bought the widest range of products I’ve been happy with from would have to be elf. They’re so cheap! And for quite acceptable quality, too. I really like their makeup-remover towelettes (probably my favorite product in the line, and they’re about half the cost of other drugstore brands), and I’ve got several brushes that are very decent, and I recently bought a little brow kit that I’m quite happy with; I’ve also got several of their eyeshadow palettes, which aren’t amazing, but okay — colors I use a lot, I have from another brand, but these are good for having a bunch of color to play with.

I also like Milani for eyeliners (the Liquid Eye liner in turquoise is absolutely my favorite eyeliner ever of any brand) and shadow pencils (Temptalia turned me on to this, with a review of the champagne pencil as a pretty close dupe of my beloved Urban Decay Sin pencil). And I like NYX for shadow pencils, which they have in a tremendous range of color (although they *must* be used with primer, or they crease and fade dreadfully; I use a different brand where the color I want is available in this form), and my latest favorite, their cream eyeshadows, which I wear primarily as a sheer layer over other colors (such as a layer of gold over teal and peacock blue).

Katherine Avatar

Revlon for lip products, Covergirl for LashBlast waterproof mascara (can’t live without it), and Quo for eyeshadow (they put out a Naked palette dupe this fall and I’ve used nothing else since!)

Alley Cat Avatar

I’d say Revlon, NYX, L’oreal, but mostly Maybelline! I love Maybelline’s mascaras and eyeliners.

Speaking of drugstore make-up, could anybody recommend me a good HD/photo ready foundation from a drugstore brand? I’m struggling to find a good, full-coverage foundation that won’t make me look like I have a mask on in pictures.

Adaora Avatar

Definetly Hard Candy illuminating primer. I have great skin, so when I’m not into putting on a tinted moisturizer I’ll put that on – along with hard candy duo cream blush, some mascara (Rimmel – any of their mascaras are a MUST), some lipstick (again Rimmel in magenta, red, or a plummy colour are all staples), and I’m good to go.

freshpinklips Avatar

I don’t usually purchase drugstore makeup anymore, but I do get them occasionally if I happen to pass by the cosmetics section when I do the grocery.
Maybelline – Define-a-brow eyebrow filler (although I use MAC Coquette and Espresso more now) and usually a volumizing mascara.
Revlon – lip butters. I used to buy Colorstay foundation in my teen years but I’ve moved on to better brands that don’t break me out.
L’oreal – The 2 best drugstore lipsticks I own are from them but I haven’t looked for more. I am interested in trying their cream foundation though since they’re also lancome I figured they might be similar to lancome’s foundations. If not it’s alright.

Chris25 Avatar

I’d say a mix of L’Oreal and Revlon. Between the 2, I am basically covered. I haven’t tried any Milani lipsticks, glosses or powders, so I can’t really say Milani. I do like their eyeshadows and blushes.

jo Avatar

Revlon, love their nail polish and lipsticks, lip butter. Creme brulee is my favorite nail polish. It is office friendly but has shimmer to it.
L’oreal has some interesting products. I like their nail polish.
Their gold polish “because your’re worth it” is really nice. I think it is office friendly gold although that might be pushing it.
For mascara, I am still pining away after my beloved Max Factor 2000 calorie which I can’t get here.

Dolce Avatar

I’m a fan of Revlon for all things lip, brown eyeliner and polish; stick to L’Oreal for mascara; Wet n Wild for eyeshadows and blush; and Milani for eyeliners and my go-to nude blush.

Lark Avatar

I don’t have one brand. LOreal infallible is impressing me for eyes and lips, Maybeline under eye brightener is so good I’m going to try the foundation. Color Tattoo! For skin care, Neutrogena sunblock and wipes, CeraVe moisturizer. Prell shampoo and cheap mousse. Wet n Wild lipsticks, gloss like sheerness is pretty.

I have products I’m loyal too, but they migrate brand. I suspect LOreal owns them all.

Catherine (@bcrueltyfree) Avatar

This is a hard one for me! My top three would be Milani, Prestige, and Wet n Wild. I love NYX as well, but I’m always unsure whether to count that as drugstore (I’ve never actually seen them sold in drugstores). If I absolutely had to pick, I’d say Milani, because to me, powder is really an essential, and their Multitasker is amazing. For mascara and eyeliner, I’d go with Prestige. And eyeshadow, Wet n Wild. My favorite thing about these three brands is that even if they weren’t drugstore prices, I’d still purchase these products. The quality is up there with high end brands.

L Avatar

Maybeline, for mascaras and their babylips. I find that the babylips colour payoff is really great for and they are so moisturizing. A way more affordable alternative to the YSL sheer candy lipsticks.

Rachael Avatar

Maybelline for mascaras; Revlon for lipsticks (especially the matte collection and lip butters); Bourjois for foundation, powders, and eyeshadows

Anitacska Avatar

I don’t buy a lot of drugstore products nowadays, but the brands I most likely reach for are Revlon for lip butters (♥) and lipsticks, L’Oreal for their Infallible eyeshadows, Barry M and Topshop (although don’t think Topshop counts as drugstore, but it’s also a cheap brand) for nail polishes. I also like Sleek palettes.

Avril Avatar

Revlon and Essence. Both are supposed to be no animal testing and perform well almost all across the board (and generally the products that don’t are ones they have a substitute for- eg one of essence’s mascaras sucks, but they have ten others).

ANGIEV Avatar

My Go To Products that I purchase on the regular are:
515 Infallible lipgloss L’oreal – $10.99
Milani Liquif’Eye Liner Black and Brown
Wet n Wild ColorIcon – Deep Blue and Dark Brown
Revlon Matte lipsticks
Black Opal True Color Liquid Hazelnut/Powder – Rich Mocha

Eibhilin Avatar

Rimmel, Bourjois and NYX for me, despite not having seen Bourjois or NYX in local drugstores. We have a couple of local chain salons that carry NYX which is where I was introduced, I don’t really categorize them that way but it seems like general consensus. Milani seems really great too, though I haven’t purchased much outside of lip products.

VickyM Avatar

I don´t have one? I go to high end 99% of the time but I do have a few limited drugstore products:

Lip liner from jordana 14 Rust I use it all the time

No name brand nail polishes…

I think thats all lol 😛

charlotte Avatar

I like a lot of different products by a lot of different brands. But if I had to pick just one it would be Maybelline because I cannot live without their 24hr lipcolor. Other than balm it is the only lip product I wear. Other favorites are Covergirl tone rehab foundation, lash blast length and volume mascaras, and simply ageless blush, powder, and concealer, Rimmel clean finish matte and 25hr foundation (mixed with Loreal true match lumi it is HG for all day serious coverage), Black Radiance complexion perfection primer (a must for oily skin), and Palladio eye primer and precision liner (HG for TL/WL).. their shadows are divine as well, buttery pigmented goodness.

R0saL1n3 Avatar

Drugstore favorites overall would be NYX. I love their matte eyeshadows, lip gloss, lipsticks, blush, jumbo eyeliner, lipliners, palettes,… Most of their products are great.

Foundation: I don’t use drugstore, so I can’t say. I’ve been using Korean “drugstore” bb creams since they are in the price range. Awesome.

Eyeshadows: Maybelline color tattoos. Loreal’s infallible.

Eyeliner: loreal’s and maybelline’s gel liners.

Mascara: Maybelline and loreal’s.

Lip products: Revlon.

Cheek: Milani baked blushes. I love luminoso.

Face primer: haha. Monostat chafing gel. Yea. I know, it’s techically not a primer…

t_zwiggy Avatar

I’m so curious that I had to google that primer. Intimate care? Lol! But I guess it’s not worse than using Milk of Magnesia (laxative) if you have oily skin xD

jess Avatar

REVLON!! they are cruelty free too! I love their just bitten balm stains (AWESOME!!), lip butters, grow luscious mascara (BOMB), photoready airbrush foundation (although UD naked skin beats it out!) , colorstay eye brow enhancer and their lip gloss is great too! Good prices and cool trend collections as well.

Cosmetic Fiends Avatar

Sorry to burst your bubble but Revlon is no longer cruelty free. Wet n Wild, e.l.f., Milani, Hard Candy and Physicians Formula are some drug store brands that ARE cruelty free. Also, just in case you didn’t hear, Urban Decay was bought by L’Oreal last week. So, they are no longer considered cruelty free either.

Stacey Avatar

These people saying Boujois must live outside of U.S. I wish I can still get Bourjois…bought mine at Macy’s 10 years ago…hardly a drugstore brand. Not much a drugstore brand fan. I may have dabble bits and pieces here, but never bought the same product twice.

t_zwiggy Avatar

I never buy drugstore products. Where I live makeup from the drugstore costs more than MAC does in the US, so I much rather order MAC online when I want cheap makeup.

Mietta Avatar

I prefer high end as I think pigmentation for eyeshadows is much better. However! Bourjois(Healthy Mix) & Revlon(Colourstay Whipped) foundation, Maybelline lippies (recent discovery of Candy Yum Yum dupe!), Loreal Infallible shadows, Essence 3 in 1 concealer & Stay All Day cream shadow (my latest OBSESSIONS – so cheap but really good!!), Revlon lippies as well…that’s really it for me!

Smoky Avatar

Sleek Makeup all the way…all their products are amazing especially their recent foundation Duo Base kit and Bourjois fundations too, very similar to Chanel as they are manufactured in the same french factory and Barry M for their nail polishes, but would like o try wet n wild color icon, Catrice and Nyx. No testing on animals companies for me <3

Veronica Avatar

It really depends on what I’m buying. Maybelline does a great gel liner, and I love their Stiletto mascara. I used to be a big fan of their cream blushes, too, but they changed the formula to something I don’t like quite as much. Covergirl’s Lip Perfection collection is great. L’Oreal and Milani do great liners and shadows, and L’Oreals Voluminous Million Lashes if one of my two HG mascaras. Revlon does nice nail polishes and lip products. Wet ‘n’ Wild has a great shadow formula for the price, and I love using their setting powder over the concealer under my eyes.

Justine Avatar

I use a lot of Maybelline face products, including the Mineral Power Powder Foundation, the coverstick concealer (for blemishes), and instant age rewind concealer (for undereyes). From Nyx, I love their eyeshadows and slide-on eyeliners. From Revlon, I love their lip products, namely the lip butters and balm stains. From Covergirl, I love the Lash Blast Mascara.

Adeline Avatar

I feel that Japanese drugstore brands are amazing. Majolica Majorca and Integrate by Shiseido, Lavshuca and Kate by Kanebo are amazing <3 I also like Ettusais (Shiseido) and Dolly Wink (Koji).

I like L'oreal Infallible eyeshadows too <3

Angela Avatar

If I had to choose just one it’d be Maybelline for my HG mascaras. But these are my overall drugstore faves:
L’oreal Infallable 8 HR Plumping Gloss, 106 Plumping Pink
L’oreal Colour Riche Colour Caresse Stick, 174 Rose Taffeta
L’oreal Colour Riche Shine Caresse Gloss, 200 Princess
Bourjois Blush, 54 Rose Frisson
Maybelline One By One Volum’ Express Waterproof Mascara, Blackest Black
Maybelline Full ‘n Soft Waterproof Mascara, Very Black
