Cinderella Storylook Eyeshadow Palette
This is Better Than a Fairy Tale
Cinderella Storylook Eyeshadow Palette ($55.00 for 0.70 oz.) includes 20 shades of fairytale-inspired eyeshadows. This is a palette created by Sephora in collaboration with Disney. The review is split into two posts (10 eyeshadows in each), but the rating reflects the palette as a whole.
Maiden is described as a “glittery magenta.” It’s a medium-dark magenta pink with subtle blue undertones and silver micro-glitter. It’s almost fine enough to be shimmer or sparkle, not so much micro-glitter even. The color payoff was good, and I didn’t experience fall out problems with this shade. Estee Lauder Violet Underground is brighter, pinker. L’Oreal Glistening Garnet is lighter, more metallic/frosted. MAC Moon Rose is very similar, but it doesn’t have glitter. NARS Caravaggio is darker, pinker. Make Up For Ever #52 is more purple.
All Aglow is described as a “shimmering tan.” It’s a warm-toned, amber gold–a little brown, subdued copper, with a golden shimmer-sheen. The finish is very frosted, and it had good color payoff and applied smoothly. Clarins Enchanted is more golden. Bobbi Brown Pink Chandelier is similar, slightly browner. Urban Decay Half Baked is similar, a little yellower. Bare Escentuals Louder is comparable. Wet ‘n’ Wild Dancing in the Clouds is a bit darker.
Destined is described as a “light blue pearl.” It’s a subdued, almost gray-ish blue with a green-gold shimmer-sheen. It’s one of those extremely versatile colors that will lean one way or the other depending on what is applied next to it. MAC Sky yields a similar effect, but it’s much, much darker. Giorgio Armani #10 is lighter and very metallic.
Cinderelly is described as a “sea foam green matte.” It’s a soft sea foam green, though it’s almost like a meadow-y green, because the yellow undertone is a bit stronger than what I’d expect in a sea foam green shade. The finish is mostly matte. The pigmentation was good, and the texture was silky-soft and smooth. MAC Guacamole is darker. Tarina Tarantino Wonderful is lighter. Make Up For Ever #34 is a bit darker.
Pumpkin Coach is described as a “cream gold.” It’s a soft peach-orange with a dusting of gold sparkle. It had decent color payoff, but this was one of the sheerer shades in the palette and had some powderiness in the texture. Dolce & Gabbana Cocoa is lighter. Inglot #328 is a bit more beige.
Ball Gown is described as a “pearl white gold.” It’s a soft white with a frosted finish. There’s only a hint of warmth that keeps it from looking like a stark white, but it doesn’t read gold or yellow-y. It had good pigmentation and applied smoothly. theBalm Sassy is similar. theBalm Envious Erin is warmer, yellower.
Kill Joy is described as a “shimmering taupe.” It’s a frosted taupe–it’s gray, it’s brown, and it’s cool-toned. The color payoff was excellent, and it applied smoothly and evenly. Urban Decay Mushroom is darker. Buxom Pug is a smidgen grayer. MAC Cloudy Afternoon is a bit browner. Urban Decay Bust is less shimmery.
Fairy Godmother is described as a “periwinkle.” It’s a blue-tinged, icy purple. It’s too purple to be periwinkle, which I think would have more blue in it. However, that actually makes it more unique. It had excellent color payoff and a very soft, smooth application. MAC Blue Orbit is darker, more purple. Other than that, I couldn’t think of another potential dupe!
Glass Slipper is described as a “light blue shimmer.” It’s a pale, but bright, bluish white with a frosted sheen. Buxom Husky is bluer. MAC Vellum is lighter. Bare Escentuals Bravo is darker.
Royal is described as a “matte bright blue.” It’s a brightened medium blue with a matte finish. The color payoff was really lovely initially, but when I applied it to the lid, it was somewhat powdery and required some patience. I had to pat it on and be careful to only blend out the edges or else it would look faded. Milani Olympian Blue is comparable. MAC Blue Candy is lighter. MAC Electric Eel is a smidgen darker. Inglot #322 is similar. Make Up For Ever #72 is also quite similar.
The palette is fairly impressive, and it holds its own against other high-end palettes at the same price point. It’s not perfect, but it’s extremely close. The fussiest shade was Royal, which was somewhat powdery and had a tendency to fade when applied and during wear (noticeably but not entirely). The mattes, generally, were very soft and as a result, a smidgen powdery, but none of them were problematic to apply other than Royal. The shimmers in the palette were nicely pigmented, applied smoothly, and blended out easily.
The color composition of the palette is just right; neutrals, colors, cool tones, and warm tones. There is also a healthy variety in finishes from matte to shimmer to satin. When I tested out the palette for wear, I experienced eight hours without fading when used over a primer, and without a primer, I saw eight hours of good wear with some very slight fading of some of the lighter, more matte colors (like Destined, Cinderelly, and Pumpkin Coach).
I thought the packaging for the palette was rather well-done. The artwork is true to the theme and movie, and what I like is I feel it’s done in a sophisticated, grown-up kind of way that will likely appeal to a wider age group than if they had gone more cartoon-ish. It’s made out of sturdy, durable cardboard with a pull out drawer that houses the eyeshadows. The eyeshadows are all placed in an insert, which is removable, and underneath reveals a hidden velvet-lined drawer for storing eyeliners, small brushes, or, at some later point, jewelry.

Oh my gosh, this looks amazing!! I so so wish we had a Sephora in the UK. The pigmentation is actually really impressive.
WOW! I’m pleasantly surprised. I would get this if i didn’t already have a ton of palettes. Very pretty colors though.
I didn’t think I would want this…but now it is going on my christmas list!
I’m glad the lady working at Sephora really pitched this on me. (She saw I was holding the Urban Decay Vice palette.) For a Disney makeup product this is so lovely! Yes it’s very light, fairytale princess shades that can be used day and night. I have friends that don’t like that look. HELLOOO we’re talking about Cinderella! She totally has an awesome day look (even if she is a servant of her own house) and her evening-before-midnight is sweet with that baby blue sparkly ballgown—-okay, calm down, Tennyoceres, you’re rambling.
I agree this palette can hold its own against the other branded palettes in Sephora. A nice variety of colors and finishes to go from day to night. Shades for the most part hold up to pigmentation. (Primer helps with the fading of some shades.) Oh yeah double bonus points for the packaging. The Disney and Sephora teams really thought this out.
Ok, I thought there were some similarities to the UD Vice palette! Glad it wasn’t just me who thought that….
I really want this! I love Disney, but the shades also look really wearable; I love palettes that you can easily do a variety of looks with.
I’m quite surprised at the pigmentation of this palette. However, I never really got into Cinderella, and I want the tarte Carried Away set, plus I just bought UD Vice. Perhaps if Sephora releases a comparable palette with Snow White, or Ariel, I’d be more interested. I also think a Princess Tiana palette would have been more relevant. Of course, if they did a Villains series…
There’s a package insert on my Cinderella bluray which states this is the first in a line of Sephora collections for the princesses…Little Mermaid is slated to come out next fall on bluray and I think we’ll be seeing a Mermaid collection around then.
I love this palette. Well, I love it more for the packaging than anything, having grown up with the classic Disney cartoons. The packaging is extremely well done!
I never purchase Sephora shadows, but I did purchase this over the UD Vice palette because there is a greater variety of colors and finishes than the Vice. They’re softer colors, for sure, but that doesn’t mean they lack in pigmentation. It’s a great palette for everyday, but it has some “fun” colors that makes it pretty versatile. I found it easiest to apply the matte and sparkle/shimmer shade by patting them on over a good primer; otherwise, they could easily blend away.
I can’t wait for the second volume. 🙂
Omg I loved it… blue shades are stunning, and texture seems great as well
I LOVE this. Cinderella is my favorite princess (I even have a Cinderella mouse ears hat from Disney World) so I feel like I have to get this. Plus all the colors are wearable (I especially love Fairy Godmother), and I feel like so many different looks could come out of it. I usually don’t — or, actually, can’t afford — to buy eyeshadow palettes, but I might indulge for this one. Thanks for the swatches and the eye looks!
Wow, I kind of want this palette now. A friend got it and talked it way up. I really shouldn’t, though — I don’t wear a lot of eyeshadow, and when I do it’s almost always neutrals.
Any chance you’ll be reviewing the eyeshadow quad from this collection?
Christine, perhaps it’s a bit of an unfair question but how would you say this stacks up against the UD Vice palette? I keep going back and forth on that one – “don’t need it/don’t like it” vs “I’ll be sorry if I don’t get it/can’t live without it”. I’m wondering if this would be a similar but better purchase (or maybe I need to take a look at them both in-store)
An A is an A is an A, whether it’s $3 or $30 product. 🙂 I gave Urban Decay’s Vice palette an A- (http://www.temptalia.com/urban-decay-vice-eyeshadow-palette-review-photos-swatches-part-1). Between the two, it’s really going to come down to how many colors you’re likely to use from each. I think the general tone and composition of the two are more different than alike, even though, of course, there are some shades that are similar in each. This palette is softer, while Vice is fairly dark/smoky. Urban Decay had some serious misses in their palette, while this only had one (kind of) miss. But really, between the two, look at what shades are you most attracted to? which would you use most often?
Thanks, Christine! I wish I could take a few from this one and a few from the Vice palette and put them together into the “ultimate palette” but that can’t be so I’ll take a look at this one (
I picked up Vice last week, and I’m glad I did. Like Christine said, this is much softer. I actually saw this today at Sephora, but I still passed on it (I went for the tarte Carried Away instead), because I would never wear half the shades in this one. The packaging on this is *alot* heftier than I thought it would be, which is a plus.
Xamyx-the packaging for WHICH is heftier? Tarte Carried Away? UD Vice? Cinderella?
Thanks!
Just looking at the pallette I thought it looked nice. But seeing some of the swatches they look great! I would like to try this out now!
I cant wait for this!!!
I’m not even really into Disney but this is gorgeous! It’s a pleasant surprise. 🙂 I didn’t think Sephora could pull it off.
Ooh, it’s so pretty (and I hate all that Disney princess stuff)! I might have to see if I can get someone to CP this for me as we don’t have Sephora in the UK 🙁
That’s beautiful. Tempting, too…
I had to buy this along with a few other items from the collection cause i grew up watching cinderella and for a month my sisters and brother watched it everyday ! I haven’t had a chance to try it yet , but I did take a look at the colors and like that there is storage under the shadows I love the packaging . I’m glad you gave it a good review ! Now I know it will be good , when I get the chance to use it ! Thank you !
I would love this..
damn being in the UK…
I rarely wear eyeshadow, and yet I’m really tempted by this. It’s lovely.
Destined and Fairy Godmother are amazing. I dont think I can buy it just for two colors though. 🙁
I am beyond impressed with this palette. I definitely agree–I like that they made it a bit more grown-up. It’s nostalgic but still elegant. I really want this! I don’t really wear bright shadows or blue shadows that often (if I do, it’s a just as a liner on either the top of bottom lashline). But I am so in love with Destined, Cinderelly, and Fairy Godmother–they’re GORGEOUS! Of course, Kill Joy is amazing too. It’s really a lovely, well-done taupe
I wonder if this will be at the international Sephoras too?
Destined looks so pretty!
Wow! That second look is so beautiful. You’ve really shown off the versatility of this palette. There’s a sparkling blue Disney ballgown look, and a deep, ashy, “Cinders” look. Gorgeous!
Thanks so much for the review. It’s so nice to know that the quality of the set is so high. I saw the set online last week, and while I thought the colors and the cover were gorgeous, I decided to pass on it since I’ve never been impressed with Sephora’s in house shadows. Your review has changed my mind. Bought the set online immediately after reading your review.
Yay! Enjoy, Emily!
beautiful! I’m wearing this palette today and I love it!
I just got this palette and it’s amazing! I think it might not be limited edition, though? On the website, it simply says Exclusive as opposed to Limited Edition or Limited Edition-Exclusive.
I think there will be more Disney palettes in the distant future, as the side of the packaging says “Vol. 1”
As far as I’ve been told, it is LE!
I just opened mine today — oohh so beautiful. I’m going to be afraid to touch it, you know, like being afraid to put that first nail hole in new walls ….*shrug*
The insert definitely says “Limited Edition Beauty Collection.” Yes, the insert also says “Introducing the first of The Disney Reigning Beauties Collections.”
They got me … hook, line and sinker!
I saw that this product is re-released on Sephora this time as ‘exclusive’ not ‘limited edition’.
Does that mean it is going to be actively sold on Sephora again?
Or does that mean it’ll still be as rare as before (in a re-seller’s point of view?)
Hi Rachel,
I don’t have any information from Sephora, so all I know is what you’ve just told me! Sorry!
