What was the last product you successfully resisted?
I would say I’ve just gotten better at buying backups of products I know I will never finish (e.g. color cosmetics for the most part) and getting too deep into skincare backups (because needs and what works changes over time).
Charlotte Tilbury Stars in Your Eyes palette—just can’t justify spending that much on a palette as beautiful as it looks!
Huda’s Emerald palette. Once I really thought about it, I realized how little use I’d get out of it and was able to successfully put it out of my head once and for all.
I’m currently in the process of resisting several products: ABH Sultry Palette (I think I’ve almost reached “successful”) and Chanel No. 5 Lipstick (resistance may be futile).
I forgot to mention that I believe I have successfully resisted buying a PMG lipstick in the beautiful aquamarine packaging. It was touch-and-go for a couple days, but I think I’ve made it through to the other side and will not be buying it.
Anything Natasha Denona or Pat Mcgrath. TF Gingerbread palette. Most holiday releases.
I don’t buy most indie bc you usually you have to buy online. I don’t shop from Beautylish. Not knocking any of it really but I don’t want to go down that rabbit hole. I just have too much makeup and I need to use what I have, not keep buying more in FOMO or hopes it will be this new, unearthed formula etc
So wise!
Having a small space that I share with my boyfriend has made me cutback on buying backups or new releases. He would rather I buy skincare than cosmetics cause he raids the skincare cabinet
I resisted Pat McGrath’s newest bronze seduction palette. I went back and forth on this one because I admire her artistry and I have all the other palettes. On one hand, the presentation, packaging and everything was impeccable. But for me to get a great look with her pigments (the “special glittery shades”) take a little more work for me than I’m willing to invest in eyeshadow these days. Also passing on Charlotte Tilburys new long palette. After trying out most products in her brand…overrated is a word that comes to mind.
Viseart Grande Pro vol.2: I am not fond of the glittery shades because they are just too much work for me and not necessarily what I look for in term of glittery eyeshadows ( I prefer them more refined)
Pat McGrath Mothership V: It is gorgeous and I still want it but not at the hefty price tag of almost 150 euros if I count the import tax and customs and shipping. I know the brand is also available at net-a-porter but there is no difference in price. I prefer to limit myself to the minis and lipsticks for the time being :).
Viseart Libertine: I like the color selection but after depotting all my 12 pans I just love moving my pans of eyeshadows around too much to go back to this brand for a fixed layout!
Blush and new lipsticks in general: I started a project pan and I don’t need to add much more to my stash. I do occasionnaly splurge on shades I feel I miss and that would wear at least weekly.
Boy, you gave me a duh! Moment…and thanks for doing so. I realized that I never depotted Viseart, bec the pkging is so minimalist. But how great it would be to have that all together. They’re all just pop ‘em outs, no glue, right? Will try that tonight. Thanks.
You need to remove the stray first. There is a bit of glue so you need to be gentle during this step too.
The second step is to place the tray in a pan and very very gentle warm it. Depot one or two shadows and put it back (the glue resolidify pretty fast). Be especially careful with mattes and take your time.
The other option that can be more time consuming but safer, is to drop 90° alcohol in the interstices with a pointy brush and less the alcohol losen the glue. That is how I mostly depoted mine.
For storage purposes, I added magnetic sheets in the packaging to place the eyeshadows back in the palette (and not have to buy numerous z palettes) but you could fit them in a bigger palette indeed :).
Probably the Voss Like a Boss palette (I think that was the one I was looking at) at Sephora a month or so back. And more of the Dior luminzers…I love the one I got (02)but it was so tempting to get 01 as well, though the colour wasn’t as good on me.
ABH sultry
For me, I’d add “so far” to the end of that question. So far, I’ve resisted UD Naked Cherry and some of the NARS duo shadows (but that might be because the collection is not around here yet). So far, I’ve not given into certain wish list items e.g., Becca Beach Tint and MJ Violet Femme highliner, but I’m likely to cave.
Otherwise, I’m likely to stay strong on all things Natasha Denona, Charlotte Tilsbury and Hourglass because of price.
Too many to count. I used to be Sephora Rouge but last year and this year, I barely made VIB. I’ve really cleaned out many things I wasn’t wearing too, or that I didn’t find totally flattering.
Unfortunately, I had to FORCE myself to ? resist the thoroughly stunning PMG Mothership 4 because 2 shades had an ingredient that would have set off severe allergic reactions to them, therefore, leaving only 8 totally usable shades for me. So, cost vs.? Had to say adiós to it. ?
Pat McGrath Mothership V.
There were quite a few products that I’ve resisted in the past weeks.
Jouer Duo Blush in Rose Gold – while I absolutely love and use a lot their Adore version, the Rose Gold is a bit too shimmery for me and I can dupe with colors I already have in my collection.
Clinique blush palette – with the exception of Black Honey, the other two colors don’t show on my fair skin (surprisingly!). I could build them up but I don’t need that at 5:30 am when I’m doing my makeup.
Nars Tryst – very beautiful packaging, design and colors but three of them are too dark and pigmented for my skin.
Kevin Aucoin NUDEPOP Pro Eyeshadow Palette – I love this new cool e/s palette but it’s out of stock on Sephora website and not available in store. I’ve waited for it so much that I gave up. I saw some positive reviews on YT but some of colors can be duped with my Tarte Miracles of the Amazon Eye & Cheek Palette.
Charlotte Tilbury Stars In Your Eyes palette – too expensive and too warm-toned (or at least so it seems from the online swatches). I prefer KA Nudepop to this one.
Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint in Uncuffed – described as a “rosy mauve”. A chance that I tried this in store and didn’t buy online as it’s a completely color on my not so pigmented lips (it shows a greyish light nude brown with no rosy tones). Excellent formula though. I hope they expand their shade range. Btw, I also tried their Uncensored (red) and when taking it off in store, it stained the area around my mouth. It was quite a challenge to take it off.
Fenty Beauty Metallic Eye + Lip Crayon Set in Frost Bunny and Frost Hunny – they are gorgeous, especially the Bunny set (in the Hunny one, two of the shades are too close on my skin in terms of color). They set very quickly and last, so you have to work with them very quickly. They are not at all over the top and they can be sheered up if you work them quickly before they set. Frost Bunny has some gorgeous colors (the yellow shade is a light champagne). I don’t discard the Frost Bunny set completely buy I’m not willing to pay the full price for it, so I will consider it if still in stock during the VIB sale in November.
I have resisted (so far) the Dior Holiday gold blush. It is so beautiful to look at, but I wouldn’t use it much in reality.
Pat McGrath Mothership V. I have to be honest with myself that glitter just does not work for my aging eyelids and my glasses would distort it anyway.
Baby Bat Beauty Cemetery Mourning Palette. It had the cutest bat-shaped palette, and the colors were pretty, but not ones I really needed.
I’m trying to resist the Friendcation palette and both Hourglass holiday face palettes … luckily my birthday is in December so I’m dropping hints left and right to my friends and family.
Urban Decay Beached – even though I loved the shades and the combinations, I realised that I had dupes for the shades I loved the most and I wouldn’t really use those bright blue shades as much as I think I would.
Natasha Denona Gold palette.
My first reaction was to buy it immediately….but I sat on it for a few days and realized, I just don’t need that many golds. I love the ones I have. I was so close to hitting the order button, but I am glad I didn’t.
now, the new PMG mini palettes-forget it. There will be no resisting those.
Anastasia Sultry palette. It’s just too sparkly for me!
I don’t know If I can honestly any this. I thought I’d resisted Natasha Denona’s Lila palette (and thank God the Sephora iPad order wouldn’t work properly at the store over four times!) And I’m still eyeballing it!
So maybe I’ll say I resist the ones I never see. Ha!
I’m not sure it’s been successful for my appearance that I’ve dodged ordering Natasha Denona Chroma Crystal Top Coats. I want grown up luxurious sparkle that doesn’t take long to apply and dry. Once I figure out what that is it’s mine!
Melt Cosmetics Gemini pallete made another return and I dodged it. I love their Amelie pigment and Sugarpill’s Charmy so I think I can live without that palette.
Charlotte Tilbury: Almost everything. Seriously.
I successfully avoided purchasing any Pat McGrath but any day now I’m pulling the trigger. Finally!
I’m proud I avoided buying any more highlighters. I forgot I have mostly unused ones that are beautiful. I gotta get a grip.
Pat McGrath & Natasha Denona Palettes. I just can’t justify that kind of money for shades I probably already own.
