I don’t know about underrated (I own very few blushes), but a lot of people hyped the ELF Coral…whatever blush and I hated it. Too dry. Way too shimmery. Mostly just dry and it was awful.

Personally, I think they’re all “Overrated”. Coral happens to be the one shade I see applied *badly* far too often. Also, I feel one must have the “right” skin tone to pull it off (whether fair or deep in coloring). Blush just happens to be the one product aside from foundation that I feel should look natural. That said, I’m quite certain many reading this *do* fall into the category of those who can pull it off, or just don’t care; I’m merely stating my opinion, from my own aesthetic viewpoint. I happen to be one of those who look terrible in any coral shade.

Frances Avatar

Thank you! I do like coral blush, but it isn’t at all a “natural, glowy” look. No one flushes coral. To my eyes, it gives a distinctly made-up look, which is great from time to time, but I wouldn’t use it in a no-makeup look. Pinks, red, and bronzes make for a much more natural cheek colour, imo.

Most Overrated: Nars Orgasm, it’s so shimmery (almost glittery) and just doesn’t look that good on me !
Most Underrated: Illamasqua Tremble

becca Avatar

Overrated: i agree with nars orgasm being overated, there are so many better corals with a better formulas. It also breaks me out terribly.

underrated: chanel malice. I LOVE the texture of chanel blushes and this coral color is beautiful on all skin tones.

SunshineAz Avatar

Overrated: I have no idea… I don’t think I’ve ever met a coral blush I didn’t like! LOL. I understand your opinion on Nars Orgasm but I do really like it. I just wish they would stop putting it in every dang kit! Oh WAIT! I know now: Nars Super Orgasm…I like shimmer, but not glitter!

Underrated: Tarte’s Tipsy! It wonderful, and so pigmented you only need a whisper of it for a beautiful coral glow that lasts all day.

kate Avatar

Overrated :: Totally agree with you on Orgasm. It’s nice, but it’s just not that exciting. Plus it doesn’t work on me at all- too warm.

Underrated :: I find that so many coral blushes get more hype than they deserve that it’s difficult to think of one that’s underrated. Don’t get me wrong- I love corals- but there are LOTS of nice blushes out there… If I had to choose one, I’d pick Mac Salsarose, which is a phenomenal bright blush and still wearable for pale ladies. Love love love this one.

Claire Avatar

Most overrated: I agree with NARS Orgasm. I don’t like it, it’s too much glitter for me.
Most underrated: NARS Gina. Perfection, all I can say.

weird how for me NARS can be both. I hear too much about orgasm but hardly anything about Gina.

Brenda Avatar

Totally agree with you on NARS Gina. Its a very unique, hard to dupe color to say the least! Another honorable mention would be NARS Gilda. Maybe these colors wouldnt be so underhyped if Sephora actually carried them!

Most overrated: Well of course the most mentioned one on here: NARS Orgasm!

Sunny Avatar

Most overrated: Out of my stash I’ll have to say Tarte Blissful. It simply doesn’t wear too well on me, and this is particularly disappointing for a blush that claims to wear for 12 hours.

Most underrated: Becca Damselfly! Absolutely fantastic color, texture, pigmentation, and lasting power. Applying this to my cheeks always makes me a little giddy 🙂

Roberta Avatar

I agree with you entirely! I was a bit disappointed when I started using Orgasm — I do like it, but I’d heard so much about it that I expected more!

Louise Avatar

Most overrated: BeneFit’s Coralista (too sheer for my liking)
Most underrated: TheBalm’s FratBoy is pigmented, long-lasting, and universally flattering. If you can catch it on Hautelook, go for it! Huge bang for your buck, too.

angela Avatar

Overrated: Hands down, NARS Orgasm. Ugh. A bit too peachy and seriously, far too much glitter. Someday everyone will get over it. I hope. Also a tad bit overrated is Too Faced Brightening Blush in La Vie En Rose.

Underated: Chanel Fleur de Lotus Joues Contraste is fantastic! CARGO SuedeBlush in Montebello (runs more pink but I swear it ‘effin knocks Orgasm out of the park!! big tin = lots of product), Bourjois 54 Rose Frisson (smallish but baked, inexpensive, brush & mirrored locking compact = fab, though sadly doesn’t wear real long), and I really love Le Metier de Beaute Echo, super gorgeous, and on me the most coral. These 4 are the only one’s I’ve ever hit pan & repurchased. Except for the Chanel, which is fairly new, and I bought 2 just in case 🙂

Angela Avatar

Your prob right. La vie en rose is pink with gold shimmer and on me it’s more coral b/c of all that crazy gold shimmer. But…I’m super fair so it’s a tough call on my skin. Papa Don’t Preach is peach but on me it’s just plain orange. Go figure.

Michelle Avatar

Over – MAC Ripe Peach. Formula is not the best and color is dupable.
Under – Victoria Secret beauty rush Free Love. $7 dollars and gorgeous

ANTIGONE Avatar

Most underated: Clinique Precious Posey, Estee Lauder Pink Kiss, Chanel In Love, La Roche Posay Rose Dore
Most overrated: Nars Orgasm and Benefit Coralista

Liz Avatar

Most Overrated:Orgasm- it’s not that pigmented enough for me. It does look great on others though (particularly you, Christine).

Most Underrated: Gilda. I had never really heard about that blush until the Nars blush reviews started on this site. Gilda is the perfect coral blush.

Cindy Avatar

Every single time I look for a new blush to purchase, I end up with a coral shade. I’m a caddict…coral addict.

Most Overrated: NARS Orgasm (’nuff said) and Tarte Amazon Clay blush in Tipsy. The later looks great at first, but it doesn’t last too long like it claims.

Most Underrated: BeneFit’s Cha Cha. I know the company calls the color Mango, but it really does look like a beautiful coral shade on light, warm-toned skin. Also, TheBalm’s Frat Boy is one of my favorites.

I think Coralista falls somewhere in the middle of the rating scale, but I adore it.

dtan0914 Avatar

Overrated: NARS Orgasm and Super Orgasm since they’re both very shimmery. They are great but maybe not for every day wear 🙁

Underrated: bareMinerals Ready Blush in The Aphrodisiac and theBalm’s Frat Boy. Both of those are beautiful colors and wear for a very long time!

Nancy Avatar

Overrated: Definitely agree on Nars Orgasm. It’s nice but it made me breakout and I was expecting more considering all the raving about it.
Underrated: Chanel Malice; it’s a bit pinker but it’s still peachy. It blends in very well and smells really nice. It’s a color that looks good on everyone.

Phyrra Avatar

Most Overrated: I’m not sure, maybe Benefit Coralista?
Most Underrated Tarina Tarantino Coral Cameo cream blush.

I can’t say enough nice things about Coral Cameo. I love it. It’s a great natural flush for me.

Jessi M Avatar

Overrated- I definitely agree with NARS Orgasm. It isn’t bad, but when I bought it I was so underwhelmed that I ended up returning it.

Underrated- Milani Luminous (not the baked blush Luminoso, although that one is pretty too). I think the blush might be DC’d, but it is worth tracking down and you can get it for really cheap on eBay.

Ellen Avatar

Overrated: Nars Orgasm, does it look good on anyone, or is it just the name?

Underrated: MAC Warm Soul and Buff, I’m not a big MAC fan, but their blushes rock, they hit the right colors for most skintones. Warm Soul is lighter and sparklier than Buff, but both warm coral/tawny peach shades that look great on my fair, redhead skin. Also, Nars Madly, has a lot of yellow in it which tones down the pink in my skin and leaves a light, spice color.

I usually like browns because the pink in my skin mixes with the brown to make it look salmon/corally. Any shade with pink in it, even coral, will turn much brighter on me than it should, but these are good for me. Usually I start with a brown or taupe tone as a neutral base and then use the color as a Pop on my cheeks, that ‘s how I avoid looking too clown like. Color Me Beautiful used to make a shade called Sandstone that looked like a pale pink in the tin but was the perfect warm pink/coral for me. The closest I’ve found to that shade was MAC’s old Bardot, and Tenderling. NARS Sex Appeal looked close but was way too light (even for me!) Would love to find one like that again!

Shelley Avatar

Overrated, MAC stereo rose. It’s kind of muddy and easily dupeable
Underrated, L’oreal innocent flush. My first blush and only one I have ever repuchased. It beautiful, cheapish, great texture

rena Avatar

Overrated : Nars Orgasm – but I still have a soft spot for it

Underrated: Shu Uemura Peaches (different names in different countries) – pigmented, softly milled and very subtle shimmer

AnGeLwInGz Avatar

Most overrated: NARS Orgasm. On my skin, it’s all pore-emphasizing gold shimmer and you can barely see the coral.
Most underrated: Benefit Coralista. I know this blush does get a lot of love but what makes it stand out to me is that it works for all skin tones. Good combination of pink/coral and a neutral shimmer.

Sarah Avatar

Most Overrated: NARS Orgasm! I concur. I love NARS blushes but have never been able to bring myself to buy Orgasm; the shimmer just isn’t a good luck for me.

Most Underrated: Benefit Coralista. It’s perfectly flattering, almost impossible to overdo, brightens my complexion, and it gives a true “lit from within” glow without looking shimmery or sparkly; it has a really pretty, really subtle iridescence.

Adelita Avatar

Most Overrated: NARS Orgasm, Tarte Tipsy & Benefit Coralista. It’s either too sheer, doesn’t last long or too sparkly!

Most Underrated: Benefit Cha Cha Tint & Tarte Maracuja Cheek Tint Light Nectar for extremely long wearing coral blush. NARS Gilda, NARS Torrid & CARGO Rome for pretty decent staying power coral blush.

casey23 Avatar

Most overrated: Nars Orgasm and Benefit Coralista. Both doesn’t show on me (NC30) how much I work with it.
Most underrated: There are bunch off! More peachy ones are Tarte glisten, TheBalm hot mama and Cargo Echo Beach, more pinky one is The Body Shop Baked to Last – Coral.

gillian tunney Avatar

Overrated: Coralista . My skin tone is nw20, and this does not show up on me at all. I get no color, only gold shimmer. Its weird, i remember thinking Orgasm lacked pigment but i dont find it anywhere near as shimmery as coralista.

Underrated: Sonia Kashuk in Sunset. Im not sure if its coral, but it is super flattering and very pigmented orangey-peach-pink. A tiny bit of shimmer, but not much.

Lark Avatar

Not a big coral wearer, but so tired of Orgasm! Move on Nars. It’s a good peachy neat rail goes with everything blush to have for pale people especially but I’m tired of Orgasm everything. Flogging a dead horse.

Nikki Avatar

Overrated: NARS Orgasm. I feel for a blush that gets so much hype, it should at least work for multiple skintones! I’ve swatched this blush and it is nothing but a shimmery, ashy mess on my NC50 skin.

Underrated: La Femme Coral blush. It adds a beautiful glow to my dark skin that is natural looking and feminine.

Goldilokks Avatar

Overrated: Nars Orgasm. Sparkle much?

Underrated: Isadora Perfect Powder Rouge in Coral Blossom (04). I’m also a fan of Givenchy LePrism Visage Mat Soft Compacts & Blushes. There are A LOT of different colors. Sephora only carries a few.

Shirley Avatar

Overrated: NARS Orgasm – It’s too shiny and so sheer.. I don’t think it’s represents NARS blushes very well, as they are usually extremely pigmented!

Underrated: NARS Luster – I found this hidden gem at a NARS counter, as they do not carry it at Sephora or Murale (Canada). Pigmentation is amazing and adds a lovely healthy looking golden sheen to your skin.. Definitely a colour for all skin types.
