Have you used a product and had it change your opinion about the brand? For good or for worse? What product?
Wet ‘n’ Wild’s Color Icon Eyeshadow formula knocked my socks right off. There were definitely noteworthy products by the brand, but excellent color payoff in their eyeshadows? Not so much! Color Icon is such an amazing formula overall.

Wet ‘n’ Wild’s blushes and bronzers made me feel the same way!
YSL; I had a lipstick used on me many years ago, and after experiencing the most horrific reaction from a product (really, the *only* time), I’ve been hesitant to try anything from the brand. It could be a lone ingredient in the particular formula, but it just doesn’t seem worth taking a chance on any YSL product, especially when there are so many other brands available.
On the other side, after trying Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment, I will *never* use anything else again, as long as these are available to me. I can’t say enough about these. I actually look forward to trying other products in the brand.
i just got the mini lip duo from sephora, and i actually love these! i’ve seen so many people claiming how overrated they are, but i think they’re very hydrating and dont coat my lips in a thick layer of crap
I wear lip balm nearly every day, and have for most of my life, so I’ve tried just about *everything*. These have been the only ones I don’t have to reapply every hour or so. I also got the mini duo from Sephora, and I probably would have never tried them, but now they’ve become my HG.
Yes!
For the better: I was pleasantly surprised by Wet n Wild’s eyeshadows palettes as well as Revlon’s Super Lustrous Lip Glosses upon first trying them. I love affordable products that actually work as intended!
For the worse: When it comes to MAC, their products seem to be hit and miss for me. I’ve tried four of their foundations and broke out each time, so I’m completely afraid of their face products now! However, I absolutely love their lipsticks and glosses. So my conclusion is that only certain products of their company are worth the money.
Two brands I think I’ve completely given up on are Urban Decay and NARS! I’ve tried two UD eyeshadow palettes and find that their shadows don’t have any lasting power for me (with primer)! I’ve tried a gloss from this brand as well that was extremely mediocre. No pigment, just shine – not enough for it’s price tag. I have yet to be impressed by the 3 NARS lip glosses I own or the Sheer Glow foundation I’ve sampled as well. For the price, the glosses have no lasting power so I had to apply them too often for my liking. As for the foundation, it made my entire face appear shiny within 3 hrs, and I could actually feel it on my face which are huge NO-NO’s for me! At one point I wanted to try their renowned blushes, but I think my past experiences with this brand has killed that desire. This brand just seems overpriced to me for the results I’ve gotten. They only way I’ll own anymore products from these brands is if I receive them as gifts.
Chanel, I thought they’d make high quality make up.. But I’m very disappointed in my Rouge Allure lipstick. It’s not that bad, just very average.
I agree about wet n’ wild- always thought of them as meh because of the price until I tried some eyeshadows and a berry blush and I thought: Holy cow, that’s pigmented!
Not so much a brand but I wasn’t interested in mineral makeup too much messy loose powder for my liking I set my makeup with loose powder eg Chanel Poudre Universelle Libre but that’s translucent so not much mess, I hardly ever use my pigment shadows because of the mess and a toddler running round. Then I received a mineral bronzer in a Glossybox and it is amazing! I’m now wanting some mineral blushers x
Wet n Wild for me too – I remember them as a cheap (in terms of quality) brand that made frosty, garish lipstick but after trying them again a few years ago (the Colour Icon singles and 6 pan palettes were my first purchases), I was blown away by the value and quality. A few Maybelline purchases have had a similar effect.
Benefit Watts Up for me. I know people love the Benefit boxed blushes, but I find that they have no staying power and I need to use loads before I can even see the blush on my skin (and I’m fair). Eye bright – another gimmicky product for me. But I think Watts Up is a pretty decent product, esp compared to the others I have tried.
Oh hey it’s my question! I would have to say these benefit ultra plush lip glosses turned me around. The Benefit brand always seemed a bit gimmicky to me so I avoided it, but these glosses are inexpensive, hydrating, non sticky, and very convenient. I look forward to exploring the brand a bit more.
Same with the wet n wild shadows, wow! However I hate when people find one little flaw and then they refuse to try anything by that brand again! Its so silly, I mean a reaction is one thing but most of the time it something trivial.
A few years ago I tried MUFE’s pencil eyeliners in a set I bought at Sephora – I used one once and a few days later I had to go to the eye dr. because I had blepharitis. The dr. said my eyes looked very “reactive” and I had to deal with itching under my eyelids, dry eyes, and expensive prescription eye drops for quite some time. Awhile ago, I tried MUFE’s liquid eyeliner, and used it once, twice, with no problems. Then I used it last month and lo and behold, horrible blepharitis reared it’s ugly head again, but this time it was worse – 3 doctor visits, 2 different prescription eye drops, and I’m still weaning myself off the steroid drops. It’s been going on for over a month and cost me $160 between office visits and prescriptions. MUFE to me is now Makeup For NEVER – I will never buy their products again, not even a lipstick!
Wow holy cow that sounds like a scary and an annoying experience! MUFE (or MUFN ;)) should reimburse you for that!
I had a horrible reaction to a holiday set (rocker something). I was so excited to try MUFEs mascara and it was horrible! My eyelids were burning within minutes after I applied mascara. It was the aqua eyes mascara. Ive never tried other eye product from MUFE but that experience was enough for me
I love wet n wild but I’m not happy that they dicontinued my favorite matte 8 palette eyeshadows! Older women just need matte bc our eyes are aggy and more wrinkled and the shimmer makes these thing stand out!!!! So I’m not looking at wet n wild until they give me back my icon palette! I found it on eBay but omg they want $29.99 for the disc.
Eyeshadow! I’m not giving eBay that bc I want it from my wet n wild company! Pleaseeeeeeee bring it back it’s the “I heart matte”! Pleaseeeee!!! It will sell I promise there is a ,or of us older women who love to look great! I’m 61 and my mom is 88 and she still dresses to The nines and wears makeup everyday!!!! Come on help us out? Love Donna
What a bummer 🙁
You and your mom sound like the finely aged older woman I hope to be one day. 😀
Obtw I did nails for 14 years and I’ve used every nail polish made but consumer report said about 7 years ago that wet n wild nail polish was amazing. I tried it and it was and still is!!!!!! Try the polish it’s awesome!
I hadn’t previously thought much of Shiseido as they are relatively unknown in the US, but trying their Luminizing Trios really made me realize what a high quality brand they were.
I have been pleasantly surprised by Cargo! I purchased some Cargo items that were being closed out at Sephora, and I wasn’t expecting much because I unwittingly assumed that more than likely, the tones would not be very good for darker skintones. Man! Did my theory get blown out of the water! Their HD powder covers beautifully, and is such a perfect match for my caramel skintone that I am afraid that when I try to purchase again, I won’t be able to find it. And that bronzer? Wow! I was starting to think that bronzer wasn’t for darker skins, but I get complimented every time I wear it.
I had always heard how great the Nars blushes were so i decided to get one, it was very pigmented and beautiful but… It gave me the biggest pimples i ever had in my life! i returned it and tried different shades thinking it might be the colors but no, i returned them all. later i tried one of their eyeshadow duos which i thought wasn’t worth the money- not pigmented and very hard to blend. I was also going to get a lipgloss from them but it smelled gross and their eyeshadow base gave me a horrible allergic reaction that took a month to clear up. I gave up on Nars.
Bare Escentuals! As much as I abhor their foundations, I love their color cosmetics. I recieved some gratis while working at Ulta and I am in love! I also agree about Wet n Wild. I love changing people’s minds about them.
Maybelline’s Super Stay 10hr Stain Gloss has made me wary of buying anything else from them except the Color Tattoo eyeshadows. I bought one of the glosses on a rec from a friend, but the overpowering sickening synthetic scent made me feel like I was putting cough syrup on my lips. I could not get it off fast enough and will NEVER buy another lip product from Maybelline.
Wet n Wild’s eyeshadows changed all my perceptions of the brand, too! I also had a similar experience with Bare Minerals – after being allergic to their foundation, I was scared to try their other products. It wasn’t until I gave their loose shadows a chance (and other items following that) that I really came to like the brand!
MAC Prolong Wear Foundation totally changed how I thought of MAC foundations. I’ve always heard of people getting acne from MAC foundations and since I’m semi-acne prone I’ve always been leery about trying their foundations.
However the good reviews for PLW wore me down and I gave it a try and now I consider that foundation my HG liquid foundation for summer/humid locations. It just lasts a crazy long time, doesn’t smear off and looks quite natural (the coverage is more medium than full like most other long wearing foundations) to boot.
