Does your makeup routine change from summer to autumn?

Not really! I would say that what products/shades I use varies seasonally based on what brands release and what trends take hold but not so much because I’ve made a choice to embrace certain products/shades/themes personally.

I wouldn’t say my routine changes all that much, except for the use of foundation. I definitely think I use more foundation in the autumn/winter/maybe spring months than I do in summer. I sometimes tan, making it hard to color match, and I’m not looking to sweat all that foundation off. I like my dewy and moisturizing finishes, things that might not necessarily agree as much with the humidity and heat.

Usually by end of summer I’ve tired of lighter, brighter, and sparkly, so I’ll wear colors with a bit more depth in autumn. Since my skin improves as the hot, humid weather eases, and I can use more moderate and nurturing skin care products, I usually need less spot concealer.

Absolutely! Once the weather turns cooler (usually around mid October), I can wear more product on my face (in the hot days of summer, the less, the better most days) and my darker, warmer red lipsticks and more autumn toned eyeshadows (Dior Bonne Etoile and Chanel Tisse d’automne are 2 perfect examples) all get hauled out of hiding and given their full expression.

My makeup definitely changes with the seasons. I like my makeup to somewhat match my clothing so my color choices vary according to the season.
I favor lighter colors/coverage in the summer, full coverage and more smokey eye looks in autumn and winter.
My lipcolor choices vary seasonally as well.

The weather dictates somewhat. I add a moisturizer or hydrating primer in cooler weather. I also tend to use less shimmer on my face and switch to matte bronzer and blush. This summer I have been wearing mainly gloss on my lips and I probably will go back to actual lipstick.

A little. I think I wear darker lipsticks in the fall and winter, but I’m not totally sure why. I live in an area with fairly mild weather year round (it is definitely colder in the winter, but not nearly cold enough to snow, and it’s definitely hotter in the summer, but most houses aren’t equipped with AC because it’s rarely necessary). There’s really no reason to follow seasonal trends and yet I find myself doing it regardless!

For me make-up is a matter of mood, not season. I’ll rock a burgundy lipstick year round. 😀 I might start using a more hydrating foundation and switch from SPF powder to regular setting powder, but otherwise I don’t think I make changes. If I want to wear a color scheme I simply wear it, I don’t believe some are season appropriate or not.

Yes, it does slightly. I try to fit my foundation formula to how the climate affects my skin, as in using a very long wearing, more “dry” formula instead of say, MAC Studio Sculpt when it is very hot and/or humid.
Another thing is that I tend to save my very dark or deep lip colors for cooler weather, too. Not so much a “seasonal” thing, but out of practicality. Constant sipping out of water bottles or Gatorade will wind up causing butthole lips or feathering. Add in somewhat less stable foundation, and I could be rocking the Joker! Not a look I want to sport.
Also, during summer I don’t wear makeup as often as I do during cooler months. Mainly because I get depressed from being shut in due to the extreme heat. So, I suppose it’s a type of seasonal affective disorder, but backwards!

Yes, it certainly does. My neutral skin tone is warmer in summer and cooler in winter. So in summer I can wear my golds, yellows, warm greens, as well as sea-toned colors and brighter pinks. I am more apt to skip blush (not as needed), brow pencil (keep it light) and mascara (might run if I go swimming) in the summer. Less liquid liner– more light style type liners in greens, wines, and blue. Moisturizers are lighter, sunscreen is applied repeatedly. Lipsticks are bright, rather than deep. Now that I feel the hint of fall, I’m more drawn to earth tones, burgundy, and navy eye looks, stronger blush, and better concealer and correction.

I like to emphasize my sense of the seasons by changing up what I wear – and the weather supports my preference. No snow or swelter, but enough of a difference to change which fabrics & colors & scents I’m drawn to. And even a slight tan makes different things look better to my eye. I like lighter, brighter and more reflective (surprise) in spring/summer, and darker & more matte/dramatic in colder months.
For me, summer is about sunlight, skin, movement and the body, whereas cold temps, indoor lighting and slowing down feels made for conversation and focuses my attention on features.

I live in Florida, so seasons aren’t a thing other than sometimes it’s less humid than others. I also work outside and, like an idiot, insist on wearing makeup everyday! At work we have to wear more neutral colors but I definitely push the limits because I love wearing deeper fall colors when it gets cooler out. In the spring I try to wear more pastel-type colors too.

Other than some color variations due to different clothing colors, my only change is in skin care. I tend to use lighter weight moisturizers and cleanser, switching to richer formula as the weather gets colder. I live a mile from Lake Erie. Winter winds can be brutal.

No, my makeup routine doesn’t vary from season to season, except in summer when I add a lot more sunscreen. But certainly the colours/shades I use change a lot. In summer I wear brighter shades, including more blues and greens, whereas in autumn I tend to go for olives, neutrals, golds and now burgundy.

Wear less overall, some times I’ll choose my Aveeno B.B. cream over any foundation and add more spf. This Sumner especially I’ve worn less jewelry, change to lighter peachy tones and wear bronzer to pretend I’m a bit tan it helps so much blush & bronze. Peach, corals on the cheeks, fresh pinks! I become lifeless in Summer and I’m supposed to tropical can’t hardly wait for colder weather to exercise more intensively/run! I don’t too well in the heat and I’m Cuban! Lol! Well in the U.S. I’m either Russian or french. Until I open my big mouth and my accent comes out or I hear my music which I love and makes my feet start moving. Can’t control it! Lol!
I used to run marathons and learned to hate the heat in just 8 miles there’s no lactic acid left in my legs is brutal it becomes tough at much shorter distance. Yuck!

Cathy Avatar

It sure does 🙂 Summer here is pretty hot and often humid so I wear minimal makeup most days. It’s usually tinted moisturizer, a swipe of pinky-beige or bronze on the eyes, coral or peach lip gloss, and that’s about it! So in the fall, I start wearing foundation again, and more autumnal/wintry shades like berries, purples, russets, taupes and grays. I love fall and can’t wait for it to arrive!

DVa Avatar

Absolutely.
I actually put away certain makeup in the summer, like I do my “winter” clothes.

Although we have a very consistent mild maritime climate, rare to get to snow in the winter and fresh and about 22-25 degrees (Celsius) in the summer, I feel my makeup must reflect my clothing.
So, I don’t wear intense colours on my eyes or lips in the summer, and those palettes and lippies get put away.
It’s also the best way to take stock of what I have, when I’m rotating out.

I also tend to use bronzer in the summer and not in the winter, just contour in the winter.

Alecto Avatar

Not really. Maybe darker eyeshadow, but that’s more of a mood thing (I’m generally in a better mood in Autumn, and feeling more upbeat usually means I’m willing to take more time on my looks, which usually means smokier, more edgy eye looks, so … )
