Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Launches

This Fall:  Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire

I am La Petite Robe Noire. If you have seen me you will NEVER FORGET ME.

Paris is my kingdom… I stroll through it at will. My light step leaves no eyes still. My heels echo loud, my winks conquer crowds and my smiles are vows. Hearts are broken behind me. It’s plain to see!  I have more than one trick. Breathe in my scent quick. Trailing close, it akes hold in a bold game of hide-and-seek. It’s a chic boy magnet: a lasting mark, a signature visible in the dark.

I was born in a rose…TWO YEARS ago, in a scent laboratory with care and passion to bestow: the exclusive Guerlain boutiques. Let’s admit it. I was such a hit that I now reinvent a new seductive version of myself, unfurled in perfumeries all over the world. It’s my predisposition. From the cradle to my international debut, it’s a family tradition. The Champs-Elysées boutique was Jacques Guerlain’s development and creation studio retreat. In this real scent laboratory, he secretly tested what customers preferred before offering these fragrances to more admirers.

My destiny took A TURN… I have a secret to share. Thierry, Guerlain’s exclusive perfumer fell madly in love with me, I swear. It was love at first sight. He perfected me, fulfilled me and brought me to light. Barely bloomed, I was adorned in the Guerlinade, a path on which my older sisters trod. This famous and instantly recognisable recipe is woven from the essential House ingredients. Let me see… A radiant breeze of Tonka bean, vanilla, iris and patchouli, if you please. Just follow your nose and discover me. I am fresher, more luminous and amorous, more couture and more glamorous. The essence of Parisian elegance. The new face of grace!

A DRYDOWN like a lovely gown… Like the cut of a dress, my fragrance is shaped with all of Guerlains’ finesse. Its simple signature enhances and romances several exceptional materials: black cherry, patchouli and rose in a bold overdose. During his travels, Thierry Wasser unravelled these treasures. Yes, my Pygmalion is a great explorer of scents and an immense “nose alchemist.” My charms reach new heights to reveal me in a new light. More sensual, intrepid, incredibly pure… with a plunging neckline for amazing allure. Smell me on your skin so sweet, as appetising and silky as a rose macaron treat. Mmmmm. You’ll want to devour me with kisses to eternity.

From temptation to THE passion, an irresistible attraction. Between fantasy and magic, black cherry blinks the first wink. It is illustrated by a clever blend that extends exquisite almond, delicious berries and fresh, sparkling bergamot.

The second wink takes place as rose enters the stage. A precious combination of fresh, explosive bulgarian rose essence and the presence of soft, deliciously candied turkish rose absolute.

Finally, the shadowy temptations of liquorice and smoky black tea reveal more of me. The evocation of the dark, powerful and noble root leads to slightly dry seduction touched with anise to boot. Elegant lapsang leaves are smoked to make themselves seen with an almost leathery sheen.

For the ultimate temptation, the entire creation is wrapped in Guerlinade. Imbued with maturity, it adds to my charisma and mystery. Fresh, enigmatic and exhilarating… Mischievous and captivating… I am the warm spark beneath the sweetness. And there’s so much more in store for you. So don’t be alarmed when you fall under my charm…

MY HOUSE is a bottle My glass house is inviting. It catches the eye in one sly glance, beckons to the hand and seems familiar to the view – it’s déjà vu! It rings a bell because it’s a faithful replica of the bottle of my illustrious siblings, L’Heure Bleue and Mitsouko (almost 100 years old but still raring to go!). You will recognise the sensual, feminine taper of the shoulders and the stopper with its upside-down heart shape. So many clear invitations to come near. The outline of my favourite little black dress looks very fine against the crystal-clear surface with a gradation of black ink to powdery pink. Another man, another fan: drawn by Serge Manseau, it is gracefully plunging and flared, with delicate balloon sleeves to leave my arms bare. Where’s the dance floor? I’m ready for more!”

Darcy, Cassandre, Nikasinovitch: Illustrators have AL WAYS accompanied the history of Guerlain. La Petite Robe Noire returns to this chic and offbeat artistic stance by giving free rein to Kuntzel+Deygas. Olivier Kuntzel, a precursor of digital graphic art in France, graduated from the Olivier de Serres Applied Arts School with a diploma in visual communication. Florence Deygas, a key figure in “elegant drawing”, graduated from the Gobelins Visual Arts School with a diploma in animated film. Since 1990, they have united their talents as designers and illustrators under the name Kuntzel+Deygas to co-create “narrative” graphic design with an inimitable style.

Their “creatures” have claimed a place in all modes of creation: objects, cinema, advertising campaigns and exhibitions all over the world. Their illustrated duos – The Beauty (by Deygas) and Her Beast (by Kuntzel), the two black dogs Caperino & Peperone or Winney & Loosey, the orange bull and the black donkey – helped create a buzz for the greatest couture, watch, leather goods and jewellery houses, even finding their way to magazine covers. On the big screen, they designed legendary opening credits: Catch Me if You Can by Steven Spielberg, The Pink Panther by Shawn Levy and Le Petit Nicolas by Laurent Tirard.

This collaboration with Guerlain brings a new character to life. The sleek figure of a mischievous, endearing and refined Parisian woman moving through a unique showcase on the borders of fragrance and fashion. Hand-sewn and tailor-made to capture all the personality of La Petite Robe Noire.

Availability: August 13th @ Sephora; $64/1 oz., $80/1.6 oz., $115/3.3 oz.

To me La Petite Robe Noire is a ” low cost ” perfume that has nothing to do with the true Guerlain perfumes ( I am thinking of Après l’Ondée, Vol de Nuit or Jicky, one of my favourite Guerlain perfume, a masterpiece in fact ). La Petite Robe Noire is clearly overrated. Is Guerlain dead well I hope not !

My thoughts exactly Dominique. I love Mitsouko and L’heure Blue. Why Guerlain decided to go this route is beyond me. There are so many scents like this on the market already. Just seems “cheap” for Guerlain.

Me too! I haven’t been able to stop smelling myself since… It’s so good. Worth every penny for me, but then perfume is always very personal so I can understand why a lot of people don’t like it! xxx

I LOVED reading the story. I read it 3 times and then made my co-worker sit in my office while I painfully read it to her. LMAO!

The bottle is beautiful. I cannot wait to spritz a sample!

Guerlain is clearly the Queen of advertising based on this. I really want to smell this scent based purely on this promotional advertisement!

Hmmmmm, I’m intrigued. In the past few years I have “grown up” in relation to perfumes. When you experience a real perfume you learn to appreciate all the complex notes and layers. You know that the initial spray will be different than the dry down. When you find the right scent it becomes you. It envokes feelings and tells a story. All that being said I hope this new scent holds true to the Guerlain name. My signature scent is Guerlain’s Mitsouko. This bottle copies the same design as well as that of L’heure Blueanother favorite). All in all I hope Guerlain stays true to it’s roots and isn’t.a.

I tried this at Sephora, and it really is a beautiful fragrance. Less spicy than most Guerlain fragrances, a little bit sweet, but not too sweet, and very sophisticated. It might end up being my first Guerlain fragrance!

I don’t know what to think after that story! Don’t think I’ve ever read anything quite like it. But I love a number of Guerlain perfumes and the reference to La Guerlinade – with all that that quasi “term of art” implies about the (much better) classique scents – really intrigues me. I’ll definitely look for this to see what it smells like. Hopefully, it will be a throw-back to the old-time Guerlain perfumes as opposed to some its more modern ones. But not so old-timey Guerlinade that it has Shamilar’s slightly powdery undertones.

Meh, none of the fume blogs I read really ever have anything nice to say about Guerlain’s La Petite Robe fragrances. I don’t hold out much hope that this fragrance will be anything original compared to the sea of department store scents already out there.

Meh! The story was so over-the-top.. I couldn’t finish reading it. It was liking reading something written by an egomaniac on steroids. Anything that has to scream ‘I’m So Special’ usually isn’t.

I have to admit, I didn’t get past the fist paragraph before having to just skim over the rest, but the actual description of the notes (when I finally pulled them out) intrigues me. I just don’t know how the rose will fit in with the rest, but that actually only increases my curiosity. Many of the notes can be found in my beloved Lou Lou, but I really can’t begin to imagine it mixed with rose, which is my other go-to scent.

Wwendalynne Avatar

teehee..I didn’t get to the point about the notes, Amy, because my eyes glazed over and drool was coming out of my mouth..

I love the smell of roses and it will always remind me of my beloved grandmother. If I wore this perfume, I would be wanting to hug myself all day long. 🙂

I have really weird tastes in Perfume and most perfumes reek on me. If a perfume is a floral, it has to be really deep and murky because the light fresh ones.. yikes..enough to make your eyes water 😉

My mother picked up a bottle of this while in Paris at the main Guerlain boutique…it’s eh. If you like this sort of fruity dessert-type fragrance, it’s fine. I was more disappointed that she came home with that, Insolence, and some other one you can easily find at every perfume counter in the country. :/ That copy is so tedious and over-the-top.

My husband bought this for me 18 months ago when he was on a business trip. I love Guerlain so I was initially thrilled. Sadly, it smells like Pledge furniture polish on me. Such a sad fragrance from such a wonderful house.

Usually i wouldnt look twice at another fragrance as i am a Cacharel Amor Amor girl… its a scent u have to keep sniffing, and some of the limmited addition versions. Most of what people like i cant stand i am very very picky with secents. I was on a mistery sop job for my company and te girl at the counter wouldnt lt me leave till she did a sprits of this perfume and spoke about it which is fine by me. but after the innitial heavyness of the scent faded which didnt take long i found myself going back for another sniff.. and by te end of the day i was sold and brought one… something i never ever do. This wouldnt be a scent i would use eveyday but it makes a nice change, smells so different on other people on me its a bit musky and headdy where as on others its sweeter… i think this i a scent u need to sprits on u and a friend and then walk away wait for it to heat to ur body and then see if u like it coz form the initial sprits i hated it but fell in love throughout the day.
