What are your go-to fragrances for summer?

I don’t know that I have a go-to, but presently, I’ve been wearing Tom Ford Fougere d’Argent (which is not a “summer” scent really) since I first tried it. Otherwise, I do reach for Tom Ford Neroli Portofino or the Neroli Portofino Intense.

I live in a warm climate, so I don’t change too much over the course of a year. I usually have a couple favorites for several months and then get sick of them and move to something else. Right now, my daytime go-to is Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Mandarine Basilic, which can definitely be considered a “summer scent,” and my evening go-to is Mugler Aura. I expect these two will probably be favorites for a long time to come. When I visit in Orlando this fall, I want to go to the Guerlain store to try some of the other Aqua Allegoria fragrances, especially Herba Fresca.

Besides Clarins Eau Dynamisante, which I’ve used for eons, it would be Elizabeth Arden White Tea and Lise Watier Vent du sud (with a name like that, you know it’s got to be great for summer). And I wear Prada Infusion d’iris (or whatever it’s called) all year ’round. It really is an all-seasons fragrance.

I don’t have a summer scent per se, but my “signature” scent (so to speak) is marc jacobs daisy which I find very summery. I wear it all year round, but it definitely lighter and fresher and gives off more summer vibes than others I have.

I think this marks me as incurably basic, but I ~adore~ Pacifica’s Breathtaking. I read a lot about fine perfumery, and I think Luca Turin would die laughing to know someone adores this fragrance, because it’s very simple and probably recognizably cheap to someone with a sharper nose. But it just… oh, I love it. It’s summer-appropriate spices, and in the drydown it just smells like when you sniff the person you love- human and clean. I can’t get enough of it.

I live by the ocean, so it’s usually sea/aquatic. Creed Erolfa, Heeley Sel Marin, and Comptoir Sud Aqua Motu. Or a quick spray of Demeter Salt Air. (Scored total fab deal on many Demeter for self and others on HL, thanks to Muse.) Plenty on the WL as well. Occ a cologne splash like 4711. Florals and more complex scents are for the other seasons. Summer’s easy.

Let me rant a bit about this year’s summer  Well, for the first time I can say that for me the summer has become almost unbearable here in Montreal. An entire week of 45C/113F, constant 38-40C/100-104F temperatures with high humidity. I’m in my 30s but I can barely breathe when I’m outside for longer periods of time. From the office to a restaurant or to the Metro station I feel like I need an oxygen mask. And I’m sweating, something that was a totally foreign concept to me.

That being said, my skin does not react normally to my usual summer fragrances. Former favorites of mine smell bad on my skin during the hot humid summer. The ones that I can still wear are: Balenciaga – Florabotanica , Miu Miu – L’Heure Bleue, Aerin – Waterlily Sun, Bvlgari – Omnia Coral. My all-time summer favorite fragrance was discontinued: Kenzo – Eau Indigo.

Fresh Life, going on probably 5 years, I think? It makes me feel clean and has a cheerful lift to it that makes these horrid hot as ? summer doldrums a bit more refreshing (if only to my nose!).

I *did* get to try on that luscious TF Fougere d’Argent this past Sunday, and I LOVE it! My little treat to myself only after I move this winter ?

To me, Diptyque OyĆ©do – provided that money (or lack thereof haha) and need to use stuff up don’t get in the way. It’s so good it al least partially mitigates my relentless longing for Autumn
*sigh*

Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue, Margiela Beach Walk, Jo Malone Earl Grey & Cucumber, JM Basil & Neroli, Estee Beyond Paradise, Aerin Hibiscus Palm, Tom Ford Sole di Positano & Oud Minerale, all of Armani’s Gioia and flankers. I could go on but those are my top picks.
