Have you ever fallen out of love with beauty and makeup?
I haven’t! I’m surprised that I haven’t fallen into a rut at any point, but I can’t recall falling out of love or disliking makeup.

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! I have, I went through about a year when I didn’t wear any makeup at all–not even to work. I had some other things I was going through but on the whole I was just sick of putting the stuff on every day, day in and day out. I snapped out of it but for many years after I only wore mascara, eye liner, and a little undereye concealer. I’m pretty lucky though that I have good skin. I’m not quite so minimal anymore but I still don’t wear foundation.
I’m not sure, but I’m wearing less and less of it now, and I like less and less of what the market is offering. I don’t buy a tenth of what I used to buy. Unless it’s a smokey eye and red lips occasion, I’ve pared down my creative itch dramatically. I don’t use 3 dozen products anymore to create a look (ok, I’m exaggerating to make a point). I’m really on the less is more train. It may be permanent — I don’t know. If that’s falling out of love, then ok, I’m falling into like a whole lot less.
Never! I’ve fallen in and out of love with certain looks or brands, but the only days I’ve gone without makeup in my entire adult life were because of illness.
Not out of love. I think I reached a general fatigue with a the new releases and every you tuber hyping everything plus all the affiliate codes. So now I only follow a few trusted people and don’t get caught up in the hype of new releases and try to make mindful purchases so that way I can keep it fresh.
I wouldn’t say I’ve fallen out of love, but over time my motivation to actually play with makeup has decreased drastically (which is less to do with the products and more to do with chronic depression lol). However, I’m definitely less easily impressed by beauty releases than I used to be; the market is incredibly saturated with formerly rare products (e.g. red eyeshadow, black lipstick) now common, and something Sam Ravndahl mentioned in a recent video was pretty accurate: when you learn more about the industry, you get kind of disillusioned and disenchanted about the stuff it produces.
I actually think I may be there now. It’s not that I have fallen out of love with makeup but I think I am over new releases and such nothing excites me when I see new products. I look at them and say I already have that it looks very close to XXX and move on. I still enjoy using what I do have and my account is happy so I guess it’s a win win!
I haven’t fallen out of love with makeup, but I’ve fallen out of love with beauty media (present company excepted, of course). I feel like with my age and my life situation, my style has changed, and I no longer see myself in the sort of looks (and models/influencers) that beauty companies and media outlets share online. In other words, I’m feeling a bit left behind. It doesn’t stop me loving makeup, but I buy far less now, and I follow wayyyyyyy fewer bloggers and Youtubers than I used to because I don’t feel like any of them represent me or my style anymore. But that happens, I guess *shrug*
No, not really…but I *have* fallen into ruts at times. Mainly just creative ruts, where it just seems like I’m doing easy, not having to think very hard looks. Especially when I was busy taking care of my kids while they were very young, plus having major restrictions placed on my buying new makeup by the Ex. Now, it only happens when I’m not feeling well.
Nope. I’ve gone through phases — am in one now — where I am not into anything on the market, but that’s from release/marketing burnout and sometimes cost management mood. I’m never bored by playing with and enjoying what I have; I love almost all I own and it’s still fun.
I’ve never fallen out of love with makeup. I’ve fallen into ruts, due mostly to being too busy with personal stuff, anxiety, and depression. I eventually get back to feeling more creative.
I feel like I’ve hit a fatigue point the last few months, though. I’m buying far less stuff, and new releases aren’t as exciting. The constant stream of LE releases is overwhelming. So is all the drama surrounding brands and influencers that’s blasted all over social media.
I feel exactly the same way, Rachel.
I still love makeup but the fatigue is real – I easily passed up on the last few UD releases, but I did get the Born to Run palette and 66 lipstick and I’m mostly ambivalent about them. Rather than being inspired and excited to use them, my initial thought process is, “eh, what am I going to do with this?” which is not great.
I’m not even on social media at all and I still find the whole thing exhausting.
I feel you on the social media burnout. At this point, I’m not really interested in anything makeup-related on the internet other than this site.
I have been wearing makeup daily for the past 8 years. And I think yes, there was.
I definately used to wear makeup for the wrong reasons. And it was very unhealthy for my mental health. And I know it was a chore to apply every morning.
After a lot of soul searching and such, I’m back to feeling good and happy about my makeup. And I know I can go outside and be totally barefaced and survive and be okay!
No.
No, never and I think I never will either!
Not fallen out of love per se, but back in the early 2000s I was very ill and didn’t wear a scrap of makeup for a month.
