Do you wear makeup when you're traveling?

Do you wear makeup when you’re traveling? Why/why not?

If I don’t have to, I won’t, especially if I’m traveling all day.  There are many times when I do, because the minute I step off the plane, I have to go to an event or a meeting.  So if it’s necessary, yes, but my preference is not to!

Nope I don’t. Just a lip balm if that counts. I try not to wear my lenses too and wear specs so my eyes don’t itch n I can sleep.

Kristabelle Avatar

Yes, I do, and I like to. I know I’m in the minority, but I feel wayy better and enjoy traveling more if I take the time to look nice, and that includes makeup. Plus who knows, could be sitting next to a cute guy on the plane 🙂

i leave the house without makeup ALL the time, but for some reason, I like to look perfectly put together at the airport. No particular reason.

blueraccoon Avatar

I don’t. I shower before traveling, obviously, because I don’t want to be crowded with other people if I’m feeling even the tiniest bit grungy. But the most I’ll wear is like tinted lip balm, and *maybe* some powder if I’m feeling shiny. Nothing else. Why bother? I’m going to sleep through the flight anyway, and no one on the other end is expecting me to look glamorous.

I don’t wear makeup at the airport, I just try and keep my face hydrated. So moisturiser and lip balm. If I’m going somewhere after I get off the plane, I bring some makeup onto the plane and just do something really simple, like just powder, mascara and some colour on my lips and cheeks. (Often I use the same colour, because it means bringing less stuff with me!)

I don’t wear makeup when I am doing a long haul on a plane, in Australia that is pretty much everywhere, lol.  I do take cleansing wipes and lots of moisturiser to freshen up.  Other than that never leave the house without at least tinted moisturiser, mascara and lipgloss.

hwendy Avatar

it depends. normally I don’t if it is for holiday
but if I travel for work reason or to a city or for some events, then yes I have to.

Mostly Sunny Avatar

Nope. I take long flights at least twice a year, and I just don’t think it’s humanly possible to go through 20 hours with makeup on. I still do my eyebrows, and I’ll have a chapstick with me, but that’s really about it!

Adelita Avatar

Yes, I rarely bare faced. But I have to admit that when I’m travelling, I wear minimum amount of makeup, though…. Just mascara, lip & cheek tint, tinted lip balm, blot powder and if I have extra time, an eyeliner.

Mariella Avatar

Yes, I do.  Since my makeup is also my “treatment” (my SPF is in my mineral powder foundation or else I wear a tinted moisturizer, whether travelling or at home).  Once I have that on my face, I need a bit of blush and I always use some sort of tinted lip balm so I figure I might as well throw on a bit of liner or shadow….

I prefer to wear makeup pretty much all of the time when I’m away from home. When I travel, I keep things simple by using a powder foundation and structured (versus color-dependent) looks. This means that my eyes are contoured, lined and with mascara applied, but it’s not really colorful; my face is contoured, but blush is simple or I skip it; and my lips are lined and glossed. The less product, the easier the touch-up. I feel like I look nice and that’s a confidence booster.

EstherKudron Avatar

I’ll usually wear eyeliner and concealer under my eyes because I feel naked without them, but I don’t do my whole face.

If I’m going on a plane, NO. It just never works out. I end up looking worse and I have this urge to wash my face after spending time up in the air anyway, so there’s no point.

Maryla Avatar

Just a little bit. I only travel to one destination, but it takes 23 hours to get there (pittsburgh to sydney, and back). A bit of Maybelline’s Tough As Taupe Color Tattoo, topped off with theBalm’s Insane Jane eyeshadow, a quick swipe of Essence’s Gel Eyeliner, and Hard Candy’s Lash Ink 4 Day Stain. Some concealer and powder on my face, and lip balm and I’m ready to go. Towards the 20th hour or so, my makeup starts to look not so good, but it’s better than what I’d look like without it.

LuceLuLys Avatar

Nope, can’t stand the feeling of makeup on my face working with dry recycled plane air to clog my pores! I have acne-prone skin so having base makeup on all day is a recipe for disaster. If I have an engagement right after getting off the plane I’ll put a cream bronzer+blush (Usually NARS multiples in Laguna and G-spot), champagne cream eyeshadow (UD PP in Sin), mascara, and a lip tint on during the last few minutes of a layover, but usually I go on and come off the plane bare-faced.

eltscott Avatar

If it’s a short trip (4 hours or less) than yes. However, if I’m going to be in the car all day, then I’ll keep some makeup basics (brightening primer, mascara, concealer, and lipstick) in my purse, and when I get where I’m going, I’ll quickly put on some makeup to make myself look more awake.

phidias Avatar

No, but then I’ve never really taken a business trip on a plane before. I think not wearing it during the flight but then putting some on a bit before landing would be okay if you have to do it.

LindaTuckerLaLonde Avatar

Of course, I have to look good for the Paparazzi.  Ha Ha  JK  I do wear makeup when I travel — either by plane or car — I just like to look “finished” at all times when I’m in the public.

JEN Avatar

No way!  I can’t really stand the feeling of wearing makeup on the plane, especially on long flights.  If it was a shorter flight and I know I’m going to do things afterwards, I’d maybe put a little on.  But most of the time, I don’t even bother.

annedreshfield Avatar

Yes, I do. I usually just wear my “neutral” face — enough to cover everything up and to make my eyes pop, but nothing too crazy or over-the-top. It makes it much easier to just wipe it off after a long day traveling! I’d probably try to wear less for an international flight, but like others, I feel more self-conscious when I don’t have any makeup on (thank you, years of acne! Not…).

GlowMyWay Avatar

No – especially if I’m in a car, because my big concern will be reapplying sunscreen (because the sun comes straight through car windows, and SPF is your best anti-aging friend, as well as anti-cancer). It’s just easier to skip the makeup in that case.

Barbara Costanza Ioppi Avatar

just some concealer, tinted moisturizer, powder and mascara. no blush nor lipstick if i’m planning to do some shopping at the airport 😉

beachgal Avatar

I do wear makeup while traveling because I am soooo fair that if I don’t have something on, I look like a total ghost. I do tone down on what I wear however because you don’t have much chance to fix it and seems something about travel means even the best waterpoof liner runs down my face. I have to have my lip balm with me at all times as well no matter the form of travel.

fadeastride Avatar

I’ll wear eye makeup but not a whole lot on my face, especially if I’m flying long distances! Those long flights are brutal on skin and I usually take a moisturizer with me to keep my face from becoming a desert. If I’m driving somewhere, then my makeup is whatever it needs to be when I get where I’m going (rolling into town in the middle of the night? no makeup!).

CaliRogue Avatar

I tend to skip eye makeup to save time (shame on me; I need the makeup on!), but I certainly wear face makeup and fill in my brows. I have to fly to go anywhere, and airport lighting is so unflattering, so I have to put something on my face.

Veronica Avatar

Unless it’s a trip that extends beyond ten hours, I generally dress and makeup myself the same as I do any other day.  I have a lot of fun with fashion and makeup, so I could care less if people think I’m odd for wearing red lipstick and four inch heels while walking through an airport.  😀  If it’s a really long trip, though, I’ll opt for something more casual with very light makeup.  I’m fair enough that sunscreen is always a must on sunny days (regardless of the season), so I usually have some time set aside for my appearance no matter what I’m doing.
(This being said, I completely understand why some people see flights/car trips as experiences requiring comfort measures only.  My sister considers sweat pants the official uniform for her flights!)

In my previous life I traveled extensively and spent so much time on a plane and I learned very quickly to keep my makeup as simple as possible on travel days.  I would usually forego any face product and apply Prescriptives Line Preventor to my skin and do my brows and a neutral simple eye.  I do not know if Prescriptives even exists to this day, but I used Line Preventor religiously for many years.  I would carry a small amount in my purse in a little vial and apply a couple of drops before landing to arrive looking refreshed.  On the other hand, the 18 hour flight to Hong Kong..I defy anyone to not look like a rumpled oily mess after that length of time in a plane.

TMBJessxox Avatar

Absolutely not, I keep a very small makeup bag in my carry on to put on right before I get off, but during my flight I only put on lip balm, moisturizer and hand cream. If I am with my family and only my family I will be brave enough to put on a sheet mask, LOL!

Nicola Avatar

It often depends on the trip I’m taking. If I’m not going too far, I’ll usually just throw on a BB cream, simple cream eyeshadow (usually Bad to the Bronze Maybelline Colour Tattoo), and mascara. If I’m going on an extensive trip, like my venture to France that took more than 24 hours, I will most definitely not wear anything!

diamond_8806 Avatar

I only wear makeup when I’m traveling if I have to be somewhere immediately once I arrive at my destination.  Otherwise, I don’t care enough to get up earlier to put on makeup.
