What lip color are you not bold enough to wear?

What lip color are you not bold enough to wear? Wear OUTSIDE of the house, that is!

I’d green/yellow–I think that while they’re cool in a funky kind of way, they aren’t particularly flattering on me. As far as more “normal” colors, I’d say that I don’t like wearing really pale nudes/beiges out.

I wouldn’t wear blue, green, or yellow. I probably wouldn’t wear white or black, either. It’s not necessarily a matter of being bold enough to wear it out; it’s just really not my thing. I also won’t wear nudes, again, not because I would be afraid to wear them out, but I just really don’t like the look of them (on me, especially). Normally, I wear balm or something close to my natural lip shade, but rosier and brighter. Otherwise, I love bright pinks, peaches, corals, and orange tones. I also love reds, BUT, out of the more “normal” shades, red is one I have a heard time wearing outside unless it’s at night and for a special occasion. I live in a conservative area, and most people think it’s pretty odd that I wear any lip product other than balm or sheer gloss at all, lol. I don’t have a problem wearing most colors, but something about red lips just make these people here go bonkers, and they stare like I have 5 heads, which is really awkward when I’m just tryin’ to go bout my damn business!!! LOL.

Miss J Avatar

@xamyx  @Miss LOL! I think there are things I’d take and leave from both! OT – Have you heard Trayvon Martin’s GF’s statement(s)? I was wondering what you thought of her/what she had to say.

xamyx Avatar

@Miss J I have a “soft-spot” for browns (I graduated HS in 91), and my favorite was a rosy brown from Lancome, called Crushed Rose. It was one of the few lipsticks I ever came close to finishing.

As for the GF statements, I only heard the ones where she says that she told Trayvon to run, but he said he was by his dad’s house, and he wasn’t going to. That to me, says he was so far away from the curb where GZ was parked, so if GZ was by his truck, he would have had time to get in *before* TM could get near him. That just proves GZ confronted TM. Also, the GF said it sounded like TM was pushed.

Miss J Avatar

Another thing the GF said was after the phone fell away from TM, she heard him say, “Get off! Get off!” The state released their interview with her; many GZ supporters think she is lying and was coached. She does seem to hesitate a lot, but I would also assume being young and put in that position would not be easy.

Any thoughts how TM’s body ended up at the opposite end of the sidewalk, away from his house, and almost midway into the grass? I’ve been trying to figure that out. I just don’t understand how they end up there. The location, to me, doesn’t add up with GZ’s story that TM asked him if he had a f’n problem, GZ said no and reached for his phone, then TM said, “you do now” then threw a punch, and he was totally taken off guard. He claims he was knocked down and beat for near a minute before firing, and that just before firing he was able to wiggle onto the grass. How they hell do you wiggle midway onto grass with someone STILL on top of you?! Also, why would GZ allow TM to be so close to where he could be punched so quickly without being able to react. If TM wasn’t that close, he would have to move towards GZ, which GZ would certainly notice. His story just doesn’t make sense. By all witness accounts, this was a fight that started in one place and moved to another, which sounds more like GZ started an altercation that he wouldn’t let go of and continued to pursue even though he likely had opportunity to back the fuck off. I’m still curious how TM ends up at the opposite end of the sidewalk away from his house. Did he run to that point and stop, did he go back that way to check if GZ left, was he chased down to that end. The GF/fiancee of TM’s dad made a statement about TM being on the back porch, which made me wonder if it was possible that TM was on the porch, but GZ actually walked to the back gate area to see if he could find or cut off TM then decided to walk UP the path where he would see TM on the porch. This would explain to me why TM would be up at the other end because if GZ came toward him, he obviously wouldn’t want to walk toward GZ, so he’d most likely have to walk back up to walk away. What was interesting from the discovery was that no key was found on TM, though I believe I read the community used keypad entry access.

Sorry, let me know if you would prefer I not bother you with these incessant rambles on this case in the future, lol.

Miss J Avatar

Another thing I find kind of funny, GZ supporters are trying to say TM KNEW GZ was on the phone with police and/or was the police, and that he ran to hide contraband then decided to come back to attack GZ. They claim his motive to attack was he was angry because he was being watched and GZ dared to ask him a question, which is kind of funny considering GZ claimed he never asked TM a thing and THE ONLY person who says GZ asked anything was the GF of TM who they believe is a liar, LOL. He hides the contraband, but decides to commit a much worse offense by assaulting (or in the words of some of his supporters attempting to murder GZ) GZ? Usually, when people run, they don’t come back.

These people have very active imaginations. I’ve also read his supporters say that TM was never scared, and he ran to “lure” the neighborhood watchman. LOL!!

xamyx Avatar

@Miss J It’s no bother. I love this sort thing as much as makeup, LOL. What I *think* happened, was both were going along, and GZ spotted an AA kid, who fit the description of some kids who were reported to be committing burglaries. Whether or not GZ was actually profiling due to personal bias, I don’t know. For the sake of argument, let’s say he wasn’t. Anyway, he saw someone “suspicious”, got out of his truck (while holding his gun), and decided to play hero and pulled the gun on TM, who, as evidenced on the 911 tape, began yelling for help. Meanwhile GZ, on the phone with dispatch, was holding TM at gunpoint, waiting for the police. TM was, of course, afraid, began yelling for help, and GZ freaked out and pulled the trigger. TM ended up by the curb either because of some wrestling around, or GZ basically ascended on him, causing him to walk in a different direction. Or, even more sinister, the body could have been moved before police got there.

Miss J Avatar

Well, I do think George was fiddling with his gun when he hopped out of the vehicle, but I don’t think he ran up with it drawn because I think the screaming would have started at that point rather than TM and GZ exchanging words first. My best guess is that GZ spotted this kid just lingering around, and assumed he was one of the teens that had been burglarizing, but had got away in the past. Some of his most recent calls about the suspicious black males were at the beginning of Feb, so I think at this point he just assumed and was pissed, and going to catch this one this time. I think TM noticed the excessive unwanted attention this person was paying them then quickly moved away from GZ. GZ says he’s running towards the back entrance (this could either mean he sees him go directly for the back entrance, which would place TM at his home, or this could mean TM took that sidewalk between the houses and GZ just assumed he was heading to the back gate, which could place TM anywhere). Whatever way they took, I think GZ lost sight, but could still tell TM was in the area, and kept looking. His entire call, whenever TM moved, or he didn’t know where TM was he sounded distracted, so I doubt he would just give up his pursuit when he was that focused on TM. I think when he’s talking to the dispatcher, he stays back, and checks his gun and flashlight. I think after he hangs up, he spotted the kid, and the kid spotted him, and I think at that point TM began to walk in the opposite direction, but noticed GZ was still following, so he stopped to ask why he was being followed. I think GZ took this as he had been made and TM acknowledging GZ caught him, so he went all cop mode. I think he rushed the kid to detain him, but a fight broke out, and I think TM might have broke away, but that GZ grabbed him again then pulled his gun and fired because he assumed that TM was a criminal. The screams sound like someone who has had a gun pulled on them, personally.

It will be interesting to see what happened at his next bond hearing. What a stupid ass for lying in the court to the judge that *may* determine whether this goes to trial.

xamyx Avatar

@Miss J I don’t think GZ *literally* had it drawn, but he had his hand on it the entire time, in some capacity, but I’d be willing to bet he did draw it as soon as he caught up to TM. I don’t think he had the flashlight, though. GZ would have likely been trying to be stealth, and the light would have given him away. Besides, there would have been streetlights, houselights, etc at that time of night, so he would have been able to see easily enough. Either way, he’s just as guilty as the defendant in the last high-profile case that came out Orlando-I just this jury actually watches the entire trial, LOL. Seriously, I think this will be pled out to avoid drama in the community. GZ will do *some* time, though.

Miss J Avatar

I don’t doubt at all he was aware and ready of his gun at his side, and I’m certain he never let TM get anywhere near it. I’m not sure about the area being light enough for him to see, though. The crime scene photos from the night showed it was quite dark down that walkway, and apparently the only light was from a witnesses back porch, but he said it only shined on his porch, and was not bright enough to light up the outside area by the walkway. There was two flashlight listed in the evidence dump. One was a small keychain flashlight, that I believe was stated to be on, and that was up towards the “T” intersection of the walkway, and then there was a 2nd one that I think wasn’t working that was found closer to where the body was found. I’m not sure what the significance of either is at this point. Yes, I hope the jurors actually pay attention to the WHOLE trial this time.

AND, I’ll finish with the newest info: They arrested Shellie Zimmerman (wife) for perjury!

normal colors: I love reds and purples but I’m too scared to wear them out of the house.
other: don’t think i would dare wear black, blue, green, yellow, etc., lipsticks!
i’m really only comfortable wearing nudes!

army_wife_in_alaska Avatar

I can’t wear blackened plum or any goth color lipstick. Unflattering. I also can’t wear MAC Snob because it washes me out like crazy. Least favorite MAC lipstick color I own.

t_zwiggy Avatar

Bright and dark colors don’t work for me at all. It’s not that I don’t have the courage to wear them, they are extremely unflattering on my small lips.

ZulaikhaMuddassir Avatar

Blue, yellow, green, purple, white, black and any gothic colour, orange! Wine colour and vamp colour are still normal colours but I don’t like them and I don’t like cool toned colors too coz im v warm toned and cool tones wash me out. :/

Iliana Avatar

Several colours actually! Green, blue, yellow, white, pure silver/gold (i would definately wear something with silver or gold sheen though) because i am not bold enough to wear them and  finally brown because it is REALLY unflattering on me.
Other than that, i truly adore bold colours such as fuschia, coral, orange, red etc and also vampy colours such as dark or even blackened reds, burgundy, plum, purple, even black! In my opinion black lips can look trashy but they can be *very* chic with the right outfit, clothes, luminous skin, sleek hair (think haute couture runways from the previous years!).

Dominique33 Avatar

My black M.A.C lipsticks, I only wear them during fall. Otherwise, I would never wear blue or green lipsticks for example, 20 years ago Helena Rubinstein had 2 colours blue and lavender/mauve, they were pretty sheer ( summer collection ), I did wear them with 2 dresses with blue and mauve flowers but people stared ! Pigments were ok but it was unusual at the time and bold ! Now, it’s more trendy and easy to wear such colours ( I am thinking of Illamasqua blue lipstick ), if I were young maybe I would try again but not now.

AmyHe Avatar

It’s not that I’m not bold enough…but I would never wear super light, almost white lip colors or browns or beiges cuz they’re either ugly, ugly on me, or just not fun for me.

Mariella Avatar

It’s not a question of being bold enough but I don’t wear nude lips because, IMO, it’s not an attractive look.  I don’t like how it looks on me especially, so I don’t wear it – not because I’m timid but because I wear makeup to look nice, to look “better”, not to look less attractive.  The same would go for any colour that isn’t  within the natural range of lip colours – blue, green, black….it’s not because I’m cowardly (it’s only makeup, after all – it’s not rushing in front of a speeding car to rescue a child!), it’s because I choose not to look ridiculous.

Amanda Avatar

blue, green, yellow, black, white. As far as more common colours: orange, brown, flesh/concealer lips, purple. I’d maybe do a really pinky purple though.

Marina Avatar

I tougth I was quiet brave with lip color, but thinking about it I can’t wear really pale nudes, pale blue pinks, browns, purples, pastel colors and of corse the crazy lip colors like blue, green, black etc…
but I think its not that I’m not brave, these colors just don’t look flattering on me, because the bright colors that look good on me I have no problem wearing.

casey23 Avatar

There are lots of colors that i am not bold to wear I don’t know where to start 🙂 At most, black-almost plack-purple type of lipsticks definitely out for me!! I am still trying to find a way to wear red lipstick but everytime I do, I erase it immediately 🙁

wwendalynne Avatar

Okay, I won’t wear any of the extremely edgy shades like black, blue, green, because I’m no longer 19 but it is definitely game on for the rest!  I was reading some of the comments below and it made me sad to think that a woman is made to feel awkward or too obvious wearing red lipstick.  I say wear that damn red lippie and let them stare!  Hell, I’ll wear MAC Rebel driving my freaking tractor and if it makes people talk, even better.  There is something about people staring and judging that brings out the hellion in me and despite the fact that I now live ‘in the sticks’, you cannot take the city girl out of me.  Now I want to go to those small towns and shake everybody up. I’m feeling feisty this morning!

Daniela Avatar

Super pale lipsticks are not for me at all. Dark lipsticks yes yes and yes (even black) but pale ones are a big no. Even with MAC Creme d’Nude I look awful, it makes me look dead!

MIRIANV Avatar

any blues, greens, yellows. I’m picky! i like plums, reds, even browns, but super neon pinks or very light, white based pinks like MAC Snob, i just can’t. other than that, i will wear anything.

Adelita Avatar

Neon Pink! OMG, I REALLY want to wear it outside the house, but I’m not that brave.
Fuchsia (Milani Rose Hip/NARS Schiap/MAC Rare Exotic) is the closest color to neon pink that I can bravely wear to public places.

stusa82 Avatar

Black. When I was 14, it was very-very cool to wear black lips, or heavy black-lined lips with white in the middle. Girls used black eye liners to make up their lips.

t_violet Avatar

I love vivid blue pinks and wear them frequently but bright corals just look so garish on me.  I’ll try them on, think they look ok, and then switch back to a bright pink before I leave the house.

nacacijin Avatar

Haha I love this question…I think maybe green, just because I have olive skin and it would make me look seriously ill. Other colors though, like purples and yellows, I could work with to make them look good.

On another note, I have actually worn blue lipstick before. Not even on Halloween, it was just a normal day…but I was pretty young. It wasn’t even a nice shade of blue either, it was like an intensely frosty cerulean color and I thought I was wicked cool. But now that I’m remembering it, I looked like a psycho. My dad laughed hysterically.

GlamorPuss Avatar

I’m not really comfortable with anything outside the “normal” lip colors.  I can wear bold and bright pinks, plums, reds, corals and oranges but I don’t really have any desire to wear blacks, blues, yellows, greens, etc.

xamyx Avatar

Although I’ve been known to wear deep, dark “gothy” shades (including black), a neutral lip, or even “corpse-like” nude, I absolutely will not wear anything in the coral/fushia/hot pink range. It’s not that I’m not bold enough, they just don’t look good. If I go with an “unconventional” shade, it’s obvious (along with my clothes and other makeup) that I’m going for a specific, stylized look; however, if I go with a more trendy or mainstream shade, it just looks like I have no clue or that I’m trying too hard. Then again, I don’t really wear lip color on a daily basis. As for green or yellow, those just don’t work for me again, skintone), but I have worn royal blue.

Nicola Lucie Avatar

I love wearing bold berry, fuschia, and red colours however, I don’t think I could ever pull off greens, blues, yellows, oranges, etc. I also look terrible in nude/really pale colours so I never dare wear those!

Daniellenm30 Avatar

For a while I would have said Mac Morange, but it does look nice when worn properly. But because I’m pale, I’d say I’m really not bold enough to wear very dark colors on my lips. Rebel from Mac is about as dark as I’d go, and even that color I only wear sparingly.

morlonbrondo Avatar

@mpca66 Do it! I only started wearing reds this year, and it’s the best thing I could’ve done – I get so many compliments, and red seems to suit most people 🙂

ToxicAngel Avatar

Really pale nude/beige shades. Its not that I’m not ‘bold’ enought to wear them, it’s that I think the whole ‘concealer lipstick’ looks terrible…on everyone! I don’t think that I could never pull off green/blue like Illamasqua Apocolips or yellow/orange like MAC Morange. I think I’d look daft in colours like that and I’ve not got the bottle to prove myself wrong.

xamyx Avatar

@ToxicAngel I have to disagree on “cocealer lips” looking terrible on *everyone*. True, not many *can* pull it off, but I, for one, can. It really depends on ones coloring, the quality of the lipstick product itself, ans the balance of the *rest* of the makeup & clothing style. Lancome Pale Lip actually looks *amazing* on me, or at least I’ve been told by many. I personally *despise* bright pinks, but to say they look terrible on *everyone* is just rude.

sshine0923 Avatar

Any pale concealer look-alikes..ugh, atrocious on my skin. And, I absolutely cannot pull off anything cool and light pink–MAC gaga and nicki, i’m lookin at you!

Rosa Ardiente Avatar

The only colors that I wouldn’t wear outside of the house would be pastels because they look so chalky and pasty on me.  I also wouldn’t wear yellow or green (unless I was paid to).  Orange is a borderline color for me.  I really like it, but I have to wear red-orange, not pure orange.  I used to wear dark brown a lot (back in the 90’s), but now I just use skintone colors and if I want something dark, I’ll just wear black.

rosieposie811 Avatar

I wear all kinds of bold colors like neon oranges and pinks. I also like reds but I am completely horrified of purple. The purples that came out with the mac collections this year were scary to me.

morlonbrondo Avatar

I’m going to have to agree with those who’ve said they’re too scared to wear anything outside your ‘standard’ colours – I’ll wear bright purples and pinks happily, but I’ll pass on blues, yellows, greens, and black.

Alyssamerrick Avatar

I’m not very adventurous at all with my lip colors. Most of the time I don’t wear anything on my lips besides lip balm. But lately I’ve been getting into corals, like mac’s ravishing. But I’m still scared to wear bright reds or really bright pinks.

EstherKudron Avatar

I feel like blues, greens, yellows, and black are widely feared. I hate anything too shimmery and gold. both are wayyy too flashy for me.

AmberMagee Avatar

my comfort zone is lip colors and like pinks and coral colors. i like the bright pinks (like the nicki minaj pink), hot pinks, and lilac shades. as well but im afraid to wear re outside cuz i feel it like clashes with  my red skin and other colors like  blue black green are way too crazy. i also dont like colors that are too frosty.

nandap Avatar

anything out of the ordinary.
From the ordinary, I also shy away from wine/brown colours, even if they’re in style now. They just make you look older.

Michelle Klein Avatar

None. I rock all sorts of bright colors. I won’t wear black, purple, blue, green, yellow, silver, white or nudes simply cuz they either don’t look good on me or are just flat out ugly lip colors. Not a boldness issue though. More of a personal taste thing.

Marianne Bekebrede Avatar

Anything ‘unnatural’ like black, grey, yellow, green, silver and blue. I’m in love with bright fuchsia, bright coral and traffic stopping reds 🙂

Bonnie Seifert Avatar

Brown, white, yellow, certain greens, most grays… but really it’s because they’re incredibly ugly (on me), not because I’m adverse to odd shades. 🙂

annedreshfield Avatar

Nudes, by far. I can never find a “true” nude that doesn’t make me look absolutely horrible. My lips are pigmented enough that when I cover them with a lighter shade I just look horribly washed out!

eltscott Avatar

A serious purple. I’m brave enough to wear a plum color, but violet, or lilac, or any other shade of actual purple, I don’t think I could do. I’ve also struggled to find an orange that I can pull off, but I’m still trying.

WendyOchoa Avatar

For the more “out there” colors, definitely blue, green or yellow; they’re just too funky for me. More “conventional” colors I’d say a true nude. For example, I feel like a corpse with Creme D’Nude. :

Ash Avatar

No blue undertoned lipsticks, they look terrible on me! Also really dark colours draw attention to my big full lips which draws attention to my round chubby face.

Xero Avatar

I don’t like wearing any crazy primary colors, or colors that look bad on me (anything purple or cool-toned).  For some reason though I don’t like wearing brownish nudes out…they don’t look BAD but there’s something about them that throws my complexion off a bit.  I also don’t like wearing anything dark/vampy because I feel it ages me…though that’s really just personal preference and not a matter of bravery.

Shannon Avatar

I would not wear green, yellow, or blue. But besides those bold colors, I also will not wear a pale baby pink or orange (think Morange or Pink Nouveau or Pink Friday by MAC). I think colors like that are way too bright for me and look horrible against my skintone. I’ll rock purples (like Up the Amp by MAC or Illamasqua’s Fierce) all day, but those bright pale baby pinks just don’t seem to work. If I attempt to wear them a lip liner is needed to change the shade of the color.

Lauren13 Avatar

I’m totally NOT adventurous with lipstick.  I tend to like glosses, nudes, and corals.  I won’t wear dark reds at all.  I think I look funny in dark colors.  I have full lips though so on my face, it’s a LOT of color.

Kastehelmi Avatar

I really don’t like nudes that are lighter than Covergirl Lip Perfection in Sultry–I own Delish, and I can wear it( I think I’m somewhere between MAC NC 40-45), but I don’t feel comfortable wearing nudes on the lighter side.

I own Orange lipsticks but only get the courage to wear them once in a blue moon. Same with purple–I love Violet Glaze by Bobbi Brown lined with Purple Rain by Nyx but it makes my teeth look so yellow–only if I start  whitening do I think I can pull it off…

I have mixed feelings about blue and green lipstick and odd colors like that, and I really wouldn’t wear them out of the house except for halloween. I really would love to get a blue lipgloss like MAC Peacocky, but know I don’t have the guts or feel completely right wearing it. I will usually stick to reds, corals, roses and berries….

Iulia Lungu Avatar

Bubblegum pink – although I have the shade, I find I have to tone it down with a plum or purple. On it’s on, it forms a fine line of film on the inside of my lips. Whether it’s the pigment or the base I’m using, I’m not sure how to get rid of the problem… It’s a beautiful look though, I would love to pull it off one day! 🙂

Ash Avatar

I have a black lipstick and a deep, true purple that get occasional wear, so I’m definitely not chicken. But I wouldn’t do neon brights like blue, green, yellow, orange or even hot pink. I like the dark look but I’d feel clownish in brights. Some people can pull it off, but I’m REALLY fair and I think it’d just look silly.
