Are there products you only bring out for a special occasion?

Are there products you only bring out for a special occasion? What are they? How special of an occasion?

Chanel Dragon Rouge Allure Laque–pretty much any and all that I deem “special” or “fancy”–and Guerlain Parure Gold foundation.

Lingerie. Oh, sorry, skimpy lace doesn’t count??  ;P  Makeup wise, nothing. I don’t save things but go by what I feel like wearing. But perfume wise, yes, I absolutely string them out or limit them to special occasions. Two examples would be some Cartier or Hermès perfumes that I have and which I wear mostly for very formal events, big parties, going on a date….Hm, can’t remember the last date I went on, so strike that last one.  I know that perfume doesn’t keep for ages and ages but, still, I refuse to wear them to go to the dog park and fall into a mud pit!

for me it is Sisley express flower gel mask, I got a deluxe sample. I tried it and it is truly great. I save it for times I fly. Great way to keep your skin from dehydrating on plane.

No, I believe in using everything I have whenever I need it. Maybe perfume, the powerful scents that wouldn’t be appropriate day to day, but I sneak those in as well if I’m not at the office or something. Thought of one – my Bobbi Brown Silver eyeshadow. Want to save b/c it’s not made anymore and it’s the best I ever tried and it’s not like I’d want to wear silver glittery eye shadow on a regular day any way.

False eyelashes… I, simply, cannot wear them everyday. I’d LOVE to but have NO idea how to apply them, in a timely manner. lol It literally takes me ages to put them on, hence deeming them a “special occasion” item. ^^

Guerlain Rouge G Le Brilliant Lipstick when I have to deal with being around my crush. I’ve used B21 (Bianca) and lost that one 🙁 and now I have B61 (Brenda). When I have swim meets I wear eyeliner (but that’s 2 every 2 weeks) My roommate called it “the insert crush’s name here* lip stick” Hahaha.
I have the Guerlain Ecrin 4 Colours in Ombre de Nuit which I haven’t used… saving that one for a special occasion… which is the only make up I have left. 🙁

I bought a bottle of perfume in France when I toured the Fragonard factory – it’s called “Belle de Nuit,” and smells absolutely heavenly. That was several years ago, and I only wear the perfume for special occasions so I still have quite a bit of it left!

If you wear a perfume infrequently, keep it in the fridge to keep it from spoiling or…use it up because it will go bad.

my bond no. 9 signature perfume! it’s a little bit too strong for daily office where, but if i’m feeling frisky and daring on a date night, definitely 🙂

Not really – I sort of use everything all the time (not all at once! good lord!) – I can’t really think of anything I’m “saving” so I’ll have it for a special occasion or my daughter’s wedding or anything like that but I do have a few items like She Who Dares MES from MAC that really are only for parties or evenings out because they’re not really “work appropriate” products.

Yes, I can’t even tell you their names because they’re used so sparingly. Although, my MAC Russian Red is used only on Fridays as that’s when we wear red to show solidarity at my place of employment.

Really only my Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation.  I only wear it when I have a  date after work or an event where I really need my makeup to last and last for a long time.  I normally prefer Smashbox BB cream on weekdays and Tarte tinted moisturizer for hanging around the house.  Both are lighter coverage and more comfortable than the Estee Lauder foundation BUT they don’t look quite as fresh after 8 or 9 hours in the office.

Guerlain automatique in #168 or the bright blue red one from Sisley (don’t remember the number).
I don’t think I look that great in this kind of bright blue red but somehow they make me happy in the club and guarantee to show on their website or photo gallery the day after lol. 😀

my playstick from benefit is something i bring out only for when i go out because i use you rebel for during the day as i find if i wear playstick (or any other cream based foundation) when its very warm or humid i want to scratch it off my face as it feels cakey and i cannot abide by that feeling ugh!!!

I also bring out my lipsticks for special events as well….

Guerlain Garconne. I love it to pieces but I am not quite bold enough to rock a bright red lip in every day wear, so that’s my “all dressed up and somewhere to go” lipstick.

My “signature scent” for the last 25 years, or so, has been Lou Lou by Cacharel. While it’s not *completely* discontinued, it is rather difficult to find in the US. I’ve tried many others through the years, but this is the only one I’ve repurchased, ever. For some reason, whenever I wear it, I attract alot of attention. As far as actual makeup products, I typically leave blush & lipstick for “dressing up”, only because I don’t really like to bother either everyday. I guess the same goes for nail polish, too. I used to do a full look, but it’s not always conducive to my lifestyle.

Lipstick / lip makeup – for very special occasions ONLY. I’m young, in my early 20s, and even though I wear eye makeup almost every day, I just feel overdone with anything more than clear gloss (which I usually don’t care enough to keep reapplying throughout the day as I eat/drink). I have some nice lipsticks and I wish I used them more, but it just never feels appropriate for my job. When I go out with friends, I like to layer on darker eye makeup, and adding lips on top of that just feels like too much for me. Oh well.

There are a couple of products I seem to use most frequently for special occasions because they work so well together for a dramatic smokey eye.  Nars – Night Clubbing eyeshadow and MAC Patina.  My MAC patina is mostly pan at this point and one of the very few MAC shadows I come back to time after time.  Ditto for Night Breed.  The gold flecks soften the black and look amazing with hazel eyes.

xamyx Avatar

@wwendalynne I never even thought of MAC Patina with NARS Night Clubbing… Patina is one of my favorite MAC shades, but after so many disappointments with LE, my MAC shadows have just been neglected. I’ll definitely have to try those together, thanks for the tip!

@xamyx  Black eyeliner top and bottom and I use a shimmery pale pale gold as highlight and that ridge line down the inside of the eye and around the tearduct.  Just one of those looks where I always get tons of compliments.  You’ll see what I mean when you put them together 🙂  I snickered at your ‘neglect’ comment because I’ve gathered up my Mac shadows and the vast majority of them are sitting in a box in my cupboard unloved with the exception of patina, embark, and a few base colours I use all the time.  I also love patina paired with deep wine/burgandy!

– I try to use Diorshow Blackout mascara for parties/nights out, just because it’s expensive and the effect is SUPER dramatic!

– Chanel Coco Mademoiselle perfume. I always get scads of compliments on this scent, but it’s VERY sexy and I try not to wear it to school, work, errands, etc.

– Chanel eyeliners, just because, again, they’re very expensive.

My Guerlain “Forever Gold” powder.  I spray it on my décolleté and shoulders when I’m going out on a special occasion.

I wouldn’t say that there are products I only wear for special occasions, but depending on the occasion I will really plan out my makeup.
